How do they make it? - Edit
Steffenhagen was a bit hidden; we had to follow the dark streets a while from where “everything” happens, but believe us – it was worth those extra meters, even if you, as us, hadn't eaten for eight hours. It is a traditional German kitchen a’ la vegan style in Szeneviertel. What is more German than a huge schnitzel? We had to try it – one ordinary with aioli and the other one with a mushroom sauce, a so-called Schnitzeljagd. The place itself was very cosy, had an alternative feeling and the staff was very friendly. As they prepare every dish on demand, we had to wait a bit for the food to come, which always make your expectations a bit higher.
Read moreThis is the kind of place where you want to come back and eat again just so you can unveil the secrets of how in the world they make their food taste so good. How do they make their “meat” so thready and the breading so crispy? How do they make the aioli so fluffy and their chocolate-fudge-cake so creamy? We asked about the aioli, but if you want to find out, you have to go there yourself, at least we would for the schnitzel.
Pros: The schnitzel!!!, Friendly staff, Very cozy
Cons: Had to wait a long time for the food

Very good food - Edit
Clearly the highlight of vegan dining in Dresden. We came for an early dinner and were practically alone in the restaurant. We started with ciabatta (€4,20) and bruschetta (€5,20) and together these would probably have been enough for a meal, with the perfect amount of bread for the dips and tomato respectively. For mains we ordered two variations of schnitzel and both were good: the Vienna style (€9,50) tangy with its sauce and lemon; the mushroom version (€10,70) rich. I enjoyed mine with a beer and my companion a Riesling. By the time we finished, the restaurant was becoming busy and I’m not sure the staff realised we were waiting to order dessert and my attempts to make eye contact failed, so we called it a night.

Delicious! - Edit
We were looking for a vegan place in Dresden and randomly chose this one off the app—and I’m glad we did! We got the Schnitzeljagd and Hackbraten and they were insanely delicious. They both came with potatoes and a small salad. The menu had lots of options, most of them being veganized versions of traditional German food. Our server spoke English and was very knowledgeable and helpful. The portion sizes were good and the prices were fair.

Delicious and rich in variety - Edit
Vegan restaurant with a nice interior in the middle of Dresden.
Read moreThe menu is rich in variety, so there is something for every taste. There is a menu of the day with changing soup, laufauf (casserole) and more.
We decided to have noodles with cabbage, seitan and a dip and a casserole with broccoli, potatoes, tomatoes and vegan cheese. Both were delicious and satisfying.
There were three different desserts on the menu, one with alcohol. We took the chocolate fudge with whipped cream, which was a good choice.
There were a lot of beverages on the menu, including organic beer and organic soda.
The prices are reasonable and the quality seems to be very good.
We enjoyed the food a lot and were happy that we took the time to go there.
Pros: delicious food, big variety, good quality
Cons: Difficult to find a parking space

Good food in a relaxed atmosphere - Edit
Steffenhagen is a vegan restaurant in Neustadt run by the same people as Der Dicke Schmidt. The restaurant itself is cozy and the staff is really friendly. They also have english menus.
Read moreThe menu is mostly composed of dishes containing some kind of soy mock meat (as the soy schnitzel) and a couple of dishes that change on a daily basis (as the laufauf or the soup of the day).
The dishes were big and tasty. The desserts deserve a special mention as they were particularly delicious. The only slightly negative point is that the pasta from the laufauf was slightly overcooked for my taste.
It is definitely one of the best vegan places in Dresden and more than worth visiting.
Pros: Cozy atmosphere, Tasty food, Big portions

awful - Edit
I went here with a friend and honestly it was a horrible experience. Service was slow and unfriendly and disorganised.
Read moreThe food was very slow to come and when it did it was so bland (plain boiled potatoes, plain pasta with a bit of cabbage and herbs) and it was all so overpriced (€12.50 and €6.50 respectively). Really wouldn't recommend.
ONLY saving grace was the fact that they played good music and the atmosphere was nice enough.
Pros: music
Cons: service, price, taste

Great Vegan German Food - Edit
It was a delicious dinner in this cozy restaurant. The service is welcoming and helpful in explaining any questions which you might have. They make wonderful teas in-house. The food is typical German but in a vegan variety. We liked the homemade vegan cheesecake a lot.

International level quality - Edit
'German' food, i.e. not particularly spicy. Kitchen / food / drink quality on international, very high level, e.g., no nonsense with wine and rum: No choice in menu (just one or two types) but truly excellent quality.
Read moreAround 15 very good, diverse (German style) main course choices, some of them gladly without garlic, plus three excellent desserts.
No ideology (no vegan or animal rights magazines, either), just a very, very good vegan restaurant; friendly, not stuck up at all. Completely normal people. Located in anti-fascist part of town "across the river".
Cash only, no bank or credit cards.

Awesome! - Edit
My husband and I went here with his parents. I had the Schnitzeljagd...the portion was huge! It tasted pretty amazing too. The schnitzel was nicely seasoned with lemon, yet still crispy on the outside, and the texture was really good. It came with really nice boiled potatoes and a mushroom gravy sauce. His dad had the gulasch, which came with herb dumplings. His mom had one of the specials of the day, which was a beet burger with potato wedges and a really nice aioli dip, and I forget what my husband had, oops. We did sample from each other and everyone really liked everything. For four people it was only €60 including drinks, so the prices are pretty reasonable as well. The service was also good and friendly. I'll definitely go back!

great great food!! - Edit
Steffenhagen was the first place a friend & I had food during a weekend in Dresden. And I was tempted to come back because the menu is huge and the food tasted amazing! (we didn't, in the end, but only because there were so many other placed we wanted to try)
Read morefirst of all: great neighborhood, cosy little restaurant with a neat looking menu and an attentive waitress.
food: excellent. I really appreciate places that offer traditional German food with a twist and as a vegan variation. Steffenhagen does this in an excellent way!
I had the "G & K" - goulash with potato dumplings. really really good! even though I kinda like my food with a little bit more veg, I know that this is how it's traditionally eaten and I can appreciate this ;)
my friend had chicken nuggets and potato wedges - which I was allowed to try and I found them really tasty as well. quite unique to be honest, not like the ones you buy in the supermarket.
unfortunately, they didn't have any cake that day but maybe this was for the best as portions were huge and dessert would have hardly fit, ha!
Pros: variety & choice, taste, location & service
Cons: for the area/dresden probably a bit on the pricey , but definitely worth it!

Wouldn't go there again - Edit
The choice of food is very good. However, the food was not convincing at all, especially for that price. The atmosphere was ok, but we were the only guests on a Sunday evening. The waiter seemed to be a bit out of place. Can't really recommend it.

Delicious food in a friendly restaurant - Edit
Eating here was really enjoyable. The food was delicious and well presented. My main course was a tofu schnitzel with boiled potatoes and mushrooms in a creamy sauce. Fresh and tasty. The dessert was exceptional - soft, dark bitter chocolate with a glass of rum. A wonderful combination. The staff were friendly and helpful, spoke English but were happy to indulge my attempts at speaking German.
