Flying High

Very relaxing independent bar cafe, with a good selection of vegan options.

We had the vegan breakfast, which was hearty and filling, with the sausages a particular highlight. The root rosti just needed a bit more cooking though, as it was a little loose. No issue with the smoothie, chai latte or Americano, which were spot on.

Staff were friendly and we loved the stone walled decor. Next time I'll be having some craft beers for sure!

A real pace setter

A wonderful independent craft beer bar and kitchen that serves excellent vegan food options. We had their fabulous vegan sharing board (crispy tofu, hummus, olives, roasted peppers, aubergine, Mediterranean veg, artichoke, salad, Starling slaw, balsamic and sourdough). Rather like a mezze,, it was full of great quality home-made components. A lot of effort had been put into making it. Hugely enjoyable and perfect for a chilled late Friday afternoon.

Pros: Lovely interior , Great beer , Serious vegan options

Great vegan options

We visited Starling not expecting much expect maybe a a vegan brunch but we were pleasantly surprised!
We went for the vegan sharing platter and wowee - it was filled with so many goodies😮‍💨
It had sundried tomatoes, olives, roasted red peppers, artichokes, avocado, slaw, houmous, salad, incredible bread and fried tofu.
The avocado wasn’t the best because it didn’t feel very fresh, the top was brown and it had a bitter flavour. The houmous was great and everything else was good but felt a little bit oily at the end.
The fried tofu was actually silken tofu which took a little bit getting used to due to the texture. It was hard to pick up and was so soft, but once I got past the texture I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of a battered cheese!
The staff seemed to be very knowledgeable about vegan food and even brought us some homemade vegan mayo to have with our chips, they mentioned aquafaba and we were stunned.

Pros: Amazing vegan sharing platter, Knowledgable staff

Cons: Avocado not fresh , A little oily

Delicious food, dog friendly, lovely space

The menu was creative and thoughtful. Plenty of vegan options including some that were also gluten-free. Lots of smoothie choices as well as all hot drinks having oat or soya milk option. The service was excellent and knowledgeable. It’s a really lovely place to eat.

Delicious vegan pizza

Starling offer a small menu but well executed. We visited with a large group including me as a vegan, a vegetarian, a gluten free and carnists. The service was attentive but unobtrusive, prices good & food very delicious. I had the beelzebub, a stone-baked pizza with mushrooms, onions, seitan and vegan "mozarella" and some salt & pepper fries to share. #Veganuary

Pros: Relaxed atmosphere , Small but well-executed menu, Dog friendly

Something different from the usual

The pizza base sarnie are good. A good amount of choice and plant based mylks.
Never my first choice for some reason but always really enjoy it when I do go.
Sells craft beers which takes from the coffee shop feels, maybe? 🤷‍♀️

Not a great visit

We went at 2pm on a Thursday, it was relatively quiet, but the food took 45 minutes to come. We’d put an hour on the car and had to wolf our food down to get back to it.
There’s not very many actual vegan options on the menu. We had to order things without the eggs etc, but there was no relief on the price to reflect it. It was on the expensive side too. I had smashed avocado on toast (without the poached eggs) and my wife had the veggie breakfast (without egg). There wasn’t a whole lot past that.
No coffee syrups FYI.

Pros: Hmm, I’m struggling.

Cons: Slow service , Expensive , Very limited vegan options.

A great find!

This cafe looks small from the outside but has a massive amount of seating on two upper floors, I loved the ambience. They do serve meat but have a large amount of veggie and vegan options, and are happy to adapt veggie food into a vegan dish. I had smashed avocado with chilli and lime on sourdough toast, with a side of homemade baked beans and it was delicious!
