Great food. Slow service and attitude is meh - Edit
We’ve been coming here for a long time and really enjoy their food. The ’manager’ today was so rude and slow service. Clearly having a bad day.

No longer fully vegan. - Edit
Staple has changed their menu and now has dairy and eggs whereas they were fully plant based. The food is lovely so this is disappointing to see.

Cool cafe with some interesting dishes - Edit
We came here for the first time since the lockdown and started off with a coffee and a croissant that was better than many but not all vegan croissants I’ve tried in Melbourne. The menu here is pretty interesting and varied, but still with some crowd pleasers. After a pause we ordered lunch, the tempeh katsu ($15) and the savoury croffle ($23) without the maple glaze. Unfortunately they mistakenly brought the sweet waffles, which made me feel bad for the staff and the wasted food. (I’d have just eaten it if it had been a savoury dish, but not ice cream for lunch. I think they didn’t end up adding the croffles to the bill.) When the savoury version arrived it was delicious, and and it was the first time I’d tried this clever invention of a croissant-waffle hybrid. (I mean, it’s hard enough to find a simple vegan croissant.) The tempeh katsu was also tasty. I wish this place were closer to me, and it’s a reason to make a trip to Altona.

Very disappointing - Edit
We went there to try a fully veg place and to support veg eating etc. I was surprised that the other reviews were so good, compared to our experience. It's a random location in an industrial estate. We did takeaway and maybe this was the mistake. Spent $40 and felt very ripped off. We ordered an option from the 'bowl' section. Which we expected alot more. It was literally just a few pieces of dry, battered tempeh on top of fries?!. So random. Hardly a bowl. Was expecting a lot more. Then we had the bbq tempeh burger and was doused in too much bbq sauce. Very little tempeh and a bit of salad. Again with very salty and basic fries. Had a couple of donuts, which were dry and not good at all. Was really bad and was a bit shocked. For 40 bucks, we basically got some fries, a few tempeh nuggets, a substandard burger and very poor donuts. Wont be returning.

It is expensive, so super disappointing that what you had was so poor in quality and quantity. Hasn't been my experience so I wonder what happened.

Amazing Vegan Food - Edit
Took the fam for lunch and donuts. First time here so thought to get a variety of food. We had the popcorn chick’n n chips, the chick’n tempeh burger and a ham cheeze croissant. The kids enjoyed the tempeh chick’n n chips although they aren’t a big fan of tempeh. I really enjoyed my burger but the star of the show was the ham cheeze croissant. Beautifully flaky pastry and the ham and cheeze were spot on. We were all fighting to have a bit of it. Ask got it warmed up, it takes it to a new level. The donuts were some of the best we’ve eaten, probably even the best. Special shout out to the custard donut and the apple crumble. Can’t wait to go back again.

Fantastic food, coffee and service - Edit
This is such a delight in an area where there aren't any other vegan places. I am rapt this is near my place and the food is so great. I went twice in one week and both times had really good service and enjoyed the food. The chips are the best I have had in a cafe EVER and I love the garnish! Donuts are delicious as well. There is a good range and the owners have done a great job in covering a lot of plant based and healthy options. The service is good as well - really efficient and friendly. I can't recommend this place enough. Even though we are heading into lockdown, I can't wait to go there again.

love this place - Edit
Amazing food and such friendly staff. They specialized in tempeh, which they make in house! They used the tempeh in such a diverse range from popcorn chicken, mac and cheese to soups. Zach, the amazing coffee barista knows all the locals by their names.

Little vegan gem in an unexpected place! - Edit
I never knew about this place until about two weeks ago, but considering it has only been open since March this year, I haven't missed out for long.
Read moreSo far I've tried the 'Toona' melt which was very tasty (although the bread was a little hard and crunchy), the 'just like scrambled egg' which was a soft tofu scramble with vegan bacon on top, and the tempeh chicken nuggets and chips which were absolutely outstanding in terms of taste and crunch factor.
Their coffee is also worth trying, and donuts are always fresh and waiting to be devoured at the front of the cafe.
My partner tried the Mac and cheese Parma which he highly approved of.
Honestly, this place is now my favourite local vegan brunch and dirty mock meat destination.
The menu is varied, with breakfast style items as well as salads, pastas and heavier meals if you're really hungry.
If anything, I recommend the tempeh chicken nuggets! Seriously, can every place that serves chicken just swap it out for tempeh, no one would even notice!
Pros: Completely plant based menu, Beautiful relaxed atmosphere , Amazing selection of sweets
Cons: Can wait a little while for food to come out

Delicious food - Edit
I booked for lunch and we ordered the Italian bucatini pasta, “Just like scrambled egg” and I had a soy flat white. We have only just started to ease restrictions in Victoria so obviously it is limited seating at the moment. The space was really nice and bright and I liked the setup. The coffee was lovely. The tofu scramble had lots of flavour and the flavours combined really well. I would prefer wholemeal or multigrain bread but that’s my only feedback. My partner had the pasta and I tried some of it and it was nice too. We got the matcha cheesecake donut and the apricot turnover(?) donut. Both were really fresh, tasty and it is good to have different flavours.
Read moreThis was my first dine in experience after the restrictions have eased slightly in Victoria and it was a good choice. It’s a bit further from us than some places but I would like to try one of their bowls.
Service was friendly too.

Finally a top-notch Plant-based cafe in the West! - Edit
Okay, was not expecting much but damn did they blow my sock off!

The outside of the cafe is super cute with decals and inside was aesthetically pleasing.

Pros: Tempeh Tempeh Tempeh! , Doughnuts are fluffy on the inside and to die for, Place is cute and welcoming

Fresh and delicious “when dining in” - Edit
I have updated my review below.
Read moreFirst day of opening and had to come to try the new cafe in the area. Great selection of items on the menu and a range of prices. Very friendly staff who dealt well with a busy cafe on day one.
I had the Gado Gado salad and Iced Chai. My husband had the Tempeh Platter.
Easily the most delicious tempeh I have ever tasted and after my meal I felt full but healthy after the variety of fresh ingredients in my salad.
The chai with oat milk was super creamy.
I’ll definitely be back to try more on the menu.
*Second visit*
I ordered the Chickn Noodle and Oreo Donut.
Oreo donut was delicious, easily a 9/10, would have been a 10 if there was a bit more filling. Great dough and not too oily.
The Chickn Noodle was quite disappointing. I’m not sure if it was because it was takeaway or if I just didn’t like it. The tempeh was not crispy and a bit soggy. The noodles which there were heaps of tasted raw and bland and the dumpling skin wasn’t pleasant in its soft texture. The greens were also in too big pieces so hard to eat. Unfortunately I couldn’t eat more than a few bites before disposing of it. A 2/10.

Delicious Tempeh! - Edit
What a cute little cafe and so close to my house! They offer great coffee and an amazing range of diverse and cheap food options.
Read moreI ordered a soy cap and the Better Blat. It came out without the sweet chilli glazed tempeh (whoops, small mistake) but they were very apologetic and offered me a discount afterwards. When the tempeh came out, it was so beautiful and delicious and completely made up for the mishap. I bought the tempeh seperately to make at home and I can't wait to cook with it!
The business has opened during a difficult time and it's important to support it now (whilst also playing it safe and keeping a good distance from everyone else). Hopefully they can survive these hard times.
Pros: Cheap! , Flavoursome, Amazing coffee art

Welcoming and wonderful! - Edit
The newest plant based cafe has landed in Altona North and it's something special. Warm hospitality, welcoming interior and clean decor. The menu is interesting with tempeh a major focus, as well as coffee.
Read moreThe coffee is excellent.
The food is flavoursome and fresh. I had the tempeh chickn Katsu which was not drowning in sauce, which is a common thing with this dish. So the flavour of the tempeh and vegetables could be highlighted. The BLAT I am told was lovely and fresh.
There is tempeh in the fridge for takeaway too.
We visited on day two of opening and they seemed to have the (already) busy cafe under control.
