Tasty Pastry Donut Vegan DELIGHT - Edit
If you park by the Macy’s, a door down an alley between Macy’s and Hooley’s Public House takes you directly to Split Bakehouse. Ring the doorbell. EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS. Great to bring to an event or like a book club, bible study, work room lounge treat/share with the office. Donut almost made me cry. I’m not exaggerating. I bit into one and was overwhelmed. I needed that. Thank you, Spilt Bakehouse. Go give them your money! 🍩✨

The monthly special pistachio morning roll with real gold was so delicious and beautiful.. honestly it was as good as anything I’ve had in NYC and around Europe. At grossmont center!! :)))

disappointing - Edit
First, I thought they were closed. They have a large storefront at a mall but the doors are locked. Turns out they have a little window from which you order and pay for your pastries. No seating. No one was visible when I walked up, so I rang a doorbell and someone appeared.
Read moreThere were a few sad-looking pastries on display that I could select from. I tried a danish and thought it was small and sort of... limp and damp? It was actually gross and I'm completely turned off from trying them again. This is the kind of vegan pastry I would have expected 30 years ago when it was a miracle to get anything vegan, but I'm spoiled now and expect way better.
I see they have mostly good reviews, so maybe I went on an off day or something. I wouldn't suggest going out of your way for this, but the amazing El Veganito Mexican place is right next to them, so if you're going there anyway it is easy enough to stop by here for dessert.

Overall Disappointed - Edit
I placed an order online and picked up my goodies at Camp Coffee Roasters in Oceanside - figured I wasn't missing out on much in terms of ambiance since this business is just a pickup window ;)
Read moreOverall I was a bit disappointed and would try a different bakery in SD next time instead of coming back here.
What I ordered:
Cheeze Danish: 4/5 - not my usual type of dessert but I don't come across vegan versions often! It was sprinkled with sugar which I could've done without.
Brownie: 3/5 - my husband's choice, I'm not really a brownie person and this one didn't do much to move the needle
Croissant Filled with Chocolate Hazelnut Spread: 1/5 - terrible, the filling tasted bitter and almost lemony? I was expecting a Nutella-esque filled croissant but was instead completely confused on whether I was given the wrong thing (I wasn't, matched the photos). Super disappointed as I was looking forward to this one the most.
Cherry Pistachio Cruffin: 5/5 - the best of the bunch I tried. I appreciated the real fruit and not just 'cherry flavoring'
Cinnamon Roll with Glaze: 4/5 - pretty good, comes in a muffin liner and has the perfect amount of cinnamon-y filling
I also got a chocolate chip cookie at Nibble Chocolate. It was soft and delicious though a few more chocolate chips inside would be great - I give it a 4/5. It's nice that Split Bakehouse sells their goodies at several establishments around town.
Pros: Selection of vegan pastries, Ability to pick up pastries in other locations
Cons: Some pastries were disappointing

Really solid vegan pastries - Edit
Been here a few times and each pastry I’ve gotten has been really good. The blueberry scone is a personal favorite and I most recently got a cheesecake slice which is probably the best vegan cheesecake I’ve had to date.

Beautiful, but kind of expensive - Edit
SPLIT does best at making beautiful hand-crafted desserts. I've liked maybe 70% of the things I've gotten from here, but I'm a little picky. The conchas and donuts are solid choices. The prices are a bit high due to the high quality ingredients and presentation. I think I would give 5 stars if they were more reasonable, but I understand why they are what they are.

Amazing vegan bakes! - Edit
Their pan dulces are to die for!!! The bakery itself is tucked away in the back of a mall and a bit hard to find but well worth the hunt!

100% vegan pastries - Edit
They have amazing 100% vegan pastries, I love it. They are quite pricey as they're also gluten free but I like the variety they had and the mild but still delicious flavour of the danish cheese and raspberry pastry. The pumpkin cheese one was simply amazingly tasty, my favourite! 😋 Recommended definitely if you're in the area! It's a little window where you ring to get attended, like a drive-through for pedestrians, so there are no drinks or seatings.

SO GOOD. - Edit
I love this bakery. These are seasonal but the pumpkin cheesecake flavoring is SO good. I don’t even like pumpkin stuff, but this place makes me crave it. I believe the chocolate croissants are year round and those are to die for, again I don’t usually like chocolate croissants either. We have had a few things we didn’t like, but since everyone’s taste is so different and I am so picky about sweets I still give this place full stars. I highly recommend. Its also surrounded by many other vegan places and the staff is super friendly.
Read morePs- If you order online for pick up you can buy 6 packs of some of their pastries frozen. It’s amazing.

Cute tiny spot - Edit
Ring the bell to call the attendant! Very cute. Everything I’ve gotten here so far has been pretty decent. Sometimes a little dry but mostly really good and the attendant is always super friendly

Scrumptious - Edit
I love this bakery’s creative flair and their pastries often inspired by Filipino and Mexican flavors. (The Ube Tart and Mini Ube Cheezcakes were sooo good.) Every time I go back there’s something fun and delicious to try. The Rose Berry Galette blew my mind. And if you’re in the mood for a savory bite, they do that too—like the Spinach Cheez Tart and the Beet Sage Mozzarella Butter Biscuit. Soooo good!
