Wow! - Edit
Get the peach pie! Delicious and served with a lot of amazing vanilla ice cream! I'm and ice cream snob and that was the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had! The jerk meatless loaf was delicious. My not-yet-vegan date swears he's going back to get it again and that next time, he's not sharing! The patio was beautiful and the service was fantastic

Amazing food and atmosphere (outdoor patio!) - Edit
I’ve eaten at Spirit Elephant on the patio twice, and gotten takeout once. The food is amazing! There’s nothing I don’t recommend. The fig flatbread is probably my favorite. Very nice patio atmosphere!

Fancy but not too fancy - Edit
The stay at home order went in effect just one day before our reservations to try Spirit Elephant for the first time (and celebrate a birthday) back in March. While we were saving it for a special occasion, we decided to give it a try for a social-distanced picnic in the park. We got (and shared) the southwest salad and Bahn Mi lunch box with fries & chocolate chip cookie. Both entrees were very tasty and a good portion for the price. The crispy seasoned chickpeas on the salad made it extra special. The sandwich was super flavorful, the bread was wonderfully chewy and fries very tasty. The cookie was nice but neither crispy or chewy.

Arguably better than anywhere in Chicago - Edit
The food was fantastic, and we badly need more places like this in/around Chicago. Places that are more than just vegan junk food/burgers which seems to be almost all we have around here. I took my mom who's a huge meat eater here and she fell in love with the "meat loaf" and the wasabi dijon cauliflower wings. As an avid cauliflower fan myself the wings were fantastic. Service could be slightly better but it was brand new when I went so I'll give it some time there.

Fine dining vegan restaurant on the North Shore - Edit
We ate out here on Valentine’s Day, 2020. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and would be very nice for a special occasion. The cost of the meal is much more than at your typical vegan restaurant, but it is the north shore after all. We ordered the French onion soup, the fig flatbread, and the meatloaf. The French onion soup was extremely savory, a bit too much in my opinion, and my husband felt that it had a vinegary finish which he didn’t like. The fig flatbread was unbelievably delicious and everyone who eats here should order it every time! Do not miss it! OMG! My husband, an omnivore, found the meatloaf to be delightful and gobbled it down. He remarked on how juicy and meaty it was. I haven’t eaten any meat since 1991, and personally I found it to be unpleasantly meaty and ate only 2 bites. We couldn’t identify the greens that came with it, but my best guess was mustard greens, which are not to everyone’s taste. So if you are a long time vegan or vegetarian, and are turned off by meat foods, do not order anything like this at this restaurant. After all that food, those desserts sounded delicious but we didn’t have room, so we just ordered a scoop of gelato each. The vanilla gelato had a faint coconut flavor and it was delicious. Overall, I would say that this is a good place to take that resistant meat eating friend or relative on your birthday, graduation or other special occasion. Much of the food here is tuned to a meat eating palate rather than a vegan or vegetarian palate. Next time I eat here, I will completely steer clear of any meat-like food and will provide an updated review. We will definitely try it again.

Cons: Nowheresville north shore location, Some foods too meaty for long time veg*ns, A bit overly loud. Weirdly varied music.

Neighborhood gem - Edit
A beautiful restaurant with warm and authentic service and amazing food! We went for an early “heart smart” Valentines dinner date and loved the cauliflower balls, Brussels sprouts, vegan meatloaf and roasted vegetable salad with candied walnuts. The vodka martini was bone dry (just the way we like it!) and the Ele Fitzgerald was perfect with vodka and grapefruit. We didn’t save room for dessert and will the next time.
Read moreSpirit Elephant is great for date night, family dinners (Mac and cheese looked fantastic) as well as on own at the bar. Super happy this neighborhood gem is open and thriving!
