Best! - Edit
This meal was amazing! The scallion pancake was flakey and light. The wonton is chili oil was so delicate and spicy. We also got the Mapo Tofu which was more than two people needed. The tofu was a perfect and soft consistency and though listed as spicy to feel like just the right amount. Soooooo good!!

So far not a fan - Edit
I ordered food and probably didn't order the right thing. So far I can not understand the hype. Perhaps if I ate at the restaurant I would like it better.

Reliable lunch - Edit
I’ve been here a few times now. There are still loads of things left to try on the menu. Always a solid meal, just mind how much you order; some dishes are small and some are very big! Today I particularly liked the Scallion Pancake.

East Village location for lunch. Satisfyingly large portions, especially for it being a lunch special. Would eat here again

Great dim sum - Edit
Dumplings in chili oil definitely the highlight. We had a couple small plates, all good. Great server. Some of the dishes tasted like they added a bit too much sugar, but overall a great meal.

Not allergy-friendly - Edit
This restaurant has great reviews but there were basically 0 options if you are sesame-free. It was really disappointing. I ended up getting a very average vegetable fried rice and cumin fries. If you have allergies, I would avoid Spicy Moon.

Awful atmosphere. Worse service. - Edit
Do not go here if you intend to have a conversation during dinner. They keep the music at dance club volume levels.
Read moreMy server assured me twice that what I was ordering did not contain scallions. When my food came out full of scallions, he said he couldn’t send it back or modify any dishes because the chef didn’t speak English. So I spent 15min picking scallions out of my food like an idiot.
If you have any kind of food allergy or intolerance, avoid this place. They won’t give you accurate information about ingredients and won’t make any modifications.
I would rate this place 1 star if HC would let me.

Got the lowest tier tasting menu and WOW. Delicious, so much food and definitely worth the money. Cocktails are $17-20!!! Delicious but too expensive in my opinion.

Highly recommend. Seriously.
Oh the wait staff and kitchen collaborated to accommodate a friend of our food allergy. Mad props for them being able to do this. They did it so low key. Much appreciated.
Pros: Amazing flavor, All vegan, Great staff

Pedimos porções pequenas para dividir. Tudo muito gostoso. Mais do que adaptar, recria os pratos tradicionais brilhantemente.

The best of the spicy moons - Edit
I frequent the Washington square spicy moon quite often but decided to give this location a try recently and was completely shocked. The flavors are so much more developed and complex at this location than the others! Absolutely incredible, and outdid the other location by a long shot. I will say, it is the smallest of the 3 locations, and the oldest, and so the atmosphere is not as exciting as the other locations (you know what I mean if you’ve been to another spicy moon). I have tried a LOT of veg restaurants in the city, and this spicy moon reigns supreme as my favorite.
Read moreOur favorite dish was the spicy eggplant, however the dan dan noodles (ask for extra spice) was a close second. I also loved the salt and pepper tofu!
Pros: Food was so good!!!!, Quaint and comfortable, Kind staff
Cons: Felt like we were getting rushed to eat, No alcohol (not a problem for me, I don’t drink), A wee bit expensive

Tiny place, the greatest food - Edit
We came here because of the positive reviews and oh boy they are not exaggerated! We ordered the salt & pepper tofu, the dan dan noodles, the cold sesame noodles and the Zha Jiang noodles. The portions are generous and we took home some delicious leftovers. The staff is tremendously friendly and helpful, they do a great job! We recommend making reservations to avoid wait times (although it is well worth the wait).

Amazing Food in Toasty Quarters - Edit
Spicy Moon appeared on all of my top plant-based spots in New York so I knew it would be the perfect spot to catch up with a friend with spicy Szechuan cuisine.
Read moreThree things came to our bellies after ordering: the Cold Sesame Noodles, Dry Pot Vegetables, and the Cumin Tofu. The tofu is an absolute must! Fluffy, deep fried tofu in spicy peppercorn and chili... that numbing feeling was absolutely in my mouth. The cold noodles were a refreshing way to break up the spice and I enjoyed the veggies as well, although I felt they used way too much chili oil.
Rice is not included with your entrees so be sure to order some to combat some of the spice.
While we love spicy food, the AC and ice machines were broken when we went, so we were really hot inside the red-hue restaurant. Aside from that, I really enjoyed the food and would recommend it to anyone, vegan or not.
Reservations are highly recommended since the restaurant is so small. I didn't end up needing it on a weekday lunch, but it never hurts to have just in case it gets busy.

Spicy Moon delivers on Szechuan flavors - Edit
I’m a huge fan of Szechuan style and sought out Spicy Moon on a trip to NYC to search for an apartment. I’ve since moved to the city and have returned to Spicy Moon several times, and bringing friends along the way. It is the place to go to for Szechuan!
Read moreIt was my first time at the smaller, cozier East Village location. But the flavors pack as loud a punch and the service and staff are just as friendly.
On this trip, got the:
- Char siu shiitake bun
- String beans
- Peppercorn Brussels sprouts
- Crispy eggplant
- Zha Jiang noodle
Loved every dish but the standouts were the crispy eggplant and the peppercorn sprouts which were both fun to eat. Whichever location you go to, Spicy Moon delivers the flavors.

The dan dan noodles, salt and pepper tofu, and vegetable wontons in chili oil are all so delicious! The East Village location is much smaller than the West Village and Bowery locations, so seating is a lot more limited!

Best Szechuan restaurant - Edit
We went to check out this restaurant based on internet recommendations and boy it did not disappoint. 3 of us shared 3 dishes. Not sure what we ordered but everything was delicious and oh boy spicy. Out of this world. Highly recommend it. Get reservations. The place is tiny but we did get good service even though the place seemed a little hectic. We went there on a Sunday night and the place was packed. Definitely a must go if you like Szechuan cuisine

This is a tiny little place, so definitely make a reservation if you want to try it. It was one of our favourite spots on our trip. Service was fast and friendly, even though they had a lot of takeaway orders to deal with.
Read moreWe got the lunch menu, and all chose vegetable dumplings for our starter - they were extremely hot, and quite tasty. For our mains, we had vegetable fried rice, salt and pepper tofu, and mapo tofu. We all loved our dishes - everything was so tasty, the salt and pepper tofu was perfectly crispy, the Szechuan pepper was not too overwhelming, it was absolutely perfect.
