The most authentic south Indian dining I can find in Tucson! The dosas and samosas are incredible and they have a lot of choices for vegans! They also offer lots of gluten-free options. In addition, they offer exotic cocktails.
The ambience is very welcoming, clean and comfortable. I liked hearing the tasteful Indian music in the background. #Veganuary
Overpowering Coconut Flavor - No Desire to Go Back - Edit
It has been a while since I went, and I don't recall everything I had. But, I do remember two of the dishes and that we ordered four dishes. Everything except the Aloo Gobi had a very HEAVY and overpowering coconut flavor. I felt it was hard to taste much else. I actually liked the Aloo Gobi, but the rest was not very good. We also ordered the Dal Makani made vegan. In fairness, I was with two other people who preferred the dishes with the heavy coconut flavor, but neither expressed a desire to go back there again.
I have had worse Indian food, and in a pinch, would be okay trying something else. But, it would be one of my last choices in terms of restaurants in the area.
We went during the pandemic (April of 2021) and when we spoke with them on the phone, their responses about the precautions they were taking did not sound great, but we figured we would go to see and leave if uncomfortable. They had sounded irritated with the questions.
I just saw that this was on Happy Cow and felt that it might be good to give some input in case others might be like me with a dislike of heavy coconut flavor in Indian dishes. Cleary, there are many who don't mind it, but I was surprised to see that.
This has quickly become our favorite Indian restaurant in Tucson! They are very vegan friendly and I have been told by multiple staff members that just about everything on the menu can be veganized when ordered.
My go to is the Vegetable Korma (request veganized) as well as the Vegatable Vindaloo.
This place is fantastic! The service was excellent. There are plenty of vegetarian options and they are happy to "veganise" almost everything on the menu. (We were told that 3 of the employees are vegan. So they really do get it.) The vegan Saag was delicious. They asked how spicy we wanted it on a scale of 1 - 10. I chose 5 - it was perfect. My friend chose 1 and hers was also perfect!
I am looking forward to returning with my husband and more friends very soon. This may well become one of our very favorite close by, go-to places!
Delightful New Vegan Friendly Indian Restaurant - Edit
My friend and I recently had lunch at the newly opened Spice Garden Indian C;uisine and were absolutely delighted. Our lunch started off well when our server found out we were vegan and announced that she was also along with two other employees at the restaurant. About 3/4 of the menu was vegetarian. Spice levels can be ordered from 1-10 depending on your desires. The owner, Jay Patel, visited our table and was more then happy to accommodate our requests for veganizing our choice. We both had the Saag Vegetable, served with rice and plain Roti bread. It was delicious. The restaurant also has a full bar in addition to beer and wine. The restaurant was accommodating social distancing between the tables. Everything was spotless including the restrooms. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a vegetarian or vegan delicious meal.
