I ate beef

I spent a long time debating whether to write this review and decided to because I don't want anyone else to be in the same position as me. I ate beef for the first time (that I know of) in about 25 years at Spice C. I cried. It was a terrible experience. However, it was mostly the fault of one overwhelmed server.

I was part of a large group and it was the first time the server had had such a large group. I asked about vegan options and he told me that they could do the noodle soups with a veggie broth. I ordered a vegetable noodle soup with veggie broth and rice noodles. A while later, he brought out the soup and handed it to me. I asked if it was veggie broth and he said yes. I spent about 10 minutes eating the soup and had eaten maybe half of it when another server came out with a different soup and told me it was my order. The old server was also there and he said he had just assumed that the soup he gave me was veggie broth because he didn't think anyone had ordered it differently. The new server said they would not charge me. The new soup was completely different from the original. Where the beef broth had been seasoned with chili oil and other things, the veggie broth was plain and extremely bland. The two soups tasted nothing alike. This showed how little the chefs cared about making the vegan option taste good. They could have put seasoning in the veggie broth, but chose not to. It was at best a mediocre soup. When the bill came, they had charged me full price. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to contest it.

While I will obviously never go back, if you find yourself there, I recommend ordering a poke bowl as it would probably be easier to tell if they messed up.

Delicious Tofu Poke Bowl

Happy to find a Japanese restaurant with a few vegan sushi options and a delicious poke bowl with tofu.
