Went for Saturday lunch without a reservation, and both dishes were absolutely delicious! The place was already packed by 11am when they opened, so I’d recommend booking a table in advance just to be safe. The gumbo was so good, I’d love to try recreating it at home if I ever can…

They have quite a few vegan options, everything that I've tried so far is deciduous. They can even add protein to your dish if you ask them to, I had the jambalaya with some soy meat.

Spicy quesadillas - Edit
The restaurant is very cozy, a bit fancy, they have just 3 or 4 vegan options, and a bit pricey , the quesadillas were not bad, but too spicy for me, so if you are like me and not into spicy food, remember to tell them, cos I forgot,lol.

There are so many vegan dishes on the menu, and all of them are amazingly well done. I absolutely love the red velvet cake!! I enjoyed the gumbo, but I think next time I’ll try the chicken and waffles too.

Read moreこのレストランは完全ヴィーガンではありませんが、シェフのLaTonya(ラトーニャ)さんが腕によりを掛けて作った複数のヴィーガン料理の数々とデザートを心ゆくまで楽しみました。
今回注文したのは『ガンボ』と『ジャンバラヤ』と『トーフ＆ワッフル』、デザートに『ブラウニー』です。
オクラとマッシュルームが入ったガンボは程よくスパイシーで、パプリカが鮮やかなジャンバラヤのスパイスも絶妙でどちらも濃厚で食べ応えがありました。トーフ＆ワッフルは驚きました。全体に甘いシロップを掛けたあと、ラトーニャさんに勧められたホットソースを掛けると今まで味わったことのない食感と味の調和に感動を覚えるほどでした(笑)
いずれの料理も最高に美味しく、ラトーニャさんが声を掛けてに来てくれたりなど、日本のレストランではないサービスに、アメリカ文化の良さを思い出させて貰えました。
このレストランでヴィーガンパーティなどをしたら、きっと盛り上がれる事でしょう！是非この素晴らしいレストランで“プチ海外旅行”を体験して下さい！
Vegan soul food... in Japan?? YES! You can find the real deal at Soul Food House, a 3-minute walk from Azabu Juban station.
Owned and operated by a couple from Atlanta, Georgia, Soul Food House boasts a cozy atmosphere and incredible, authentic soul food. The vegan options are clearly marked on the menu. We were told they can also make vegan mac n cheese, if you order it at least a day in advance.
We arrived right as they opened for Sunday brunch, and within an hour the dining room was almost full, with customers from all over the world. Owners David and LaTonya took time to greet each table warmly. It felt like being back home.
And the food. The food!!!! We ordered the gumbo, jambalaya, and tofu & waffles. The first two dishes featured bold, deep flavors that we hadn’t experienced before. At LaTonya’s urging we added some hot sauce to the latter dish which, to my surprise, made it taste even better!!
For dessert we had the Vegan Brownie, which combined a perfectly cooked brownie with chocolate sauce and a raspberry smoothie of sorts to dip (?) it in? Every bite of every dish was great!
It’s nice to be able to support a Black-owned business, right here in Tokyo. If you love soul food (and who doesn’t?), RUN, don’t walk, to Soul Food House!
