Large vegetarian selection - Organic Produce, Deli, Vitamins - which is uncharacteristic of other markets in this area. Open Tue-Thu 10:00am-6:00pm, Fri 10:00am-9:00pm, Sat 8:00am-5:00pm.
This place pushes anti-vax, anti-science nonsense and pseudoscience that could damage people’s health by encouraging them to use “alternative” treatments rather than seeking legitimate, evidence-based medical care for serious conditions. They also refused to comply with masking during the mandate despite advertising specifically to people who would be particularly vulnerable (cancer patients, diabetics, the elderly, etc) and probably immunocompromised. I highly recommend NOT spending your money at this establishment!
I love the variety in their bulk-purchase area. So many choices in grains, nuts, dried fruits, granolas, and pastas. It’s truly the only reason I make the long trip there, but it’s worth it to stock up.
After having a post a few weeks ago about masks being required, Sonnewald outside York appears to have changed their tune. Sign stating masks optional during a state mandate that they are required. 80% customers in store seeing them, 0% of employees who we could see in the back (at least 3 maybe 4) wearing masks. Cashier was wearing a mask. Passed 4 people walking in on our way out, no masks. Won't be back.
I cannot express how thrilled I am to have found Sonnewald farm!! I stumbled upon it by accident just as I was beginning to dispair at being stuck in central Pennsylvania and plotting my escape. This is an 8000 square foot vegan/organic paradise with ground to order wheat flour, every bulk item known to man (including Amaranth) and helpful, friendly, knowledgeable staff. If you live anywhere in central Pennsylvania it would still be worth the drive to commute to Sonnewald every week. Since finding this mecca I am perfectly happy to stay in central PA forever.
