Must visit!

My wife and I visited the Solar Branco Estate during our trip to the Azores last month and had an absolutely phenomenal experience. As a gin enthusiast, the 1,111 (and counting) varieties of craft gins from around the world at the Gin Library were an absolute treat to explore. After sampling some unique gins we had dinner at the Green Pantry which was an absolute treat!

My wife is vegetarian (eats dairy and eggs) and I'm completely vegan. Chef Andre Fragoeiro is clearly a world class culinary artist. He prepared two versions of the six-course prix fixe menu - one vegetarian and one vegan. Every course was beautifully presented, amazingly creative and mouth wateringly delicious. We started with an onion cappuccino which featured an onion broth under a soft cloud-like confit onion foam that was a perfect way to start what turned out to be one of the best vegan/vegetarian meals we've ever had. Being from NYC we've been fortunate to have dined at the world famous Eleven Madison Park after it went completely plant-based. The dishes at the Green Pantry are equally as sophisticated and delectable (and a fraction of the price). And the homemade Limoncello was a delicious way to finish off one of the best meals we've had.

Every visitor to Ponta Delgada - whether vegan, vegetarian or not - that doesn't indulge in the gin and cuisine at the Gin Library and Green Pantry is making a huge mistake! Hats off to owner Ali Bullock and team!

Oh, and be sure to pick up a bottle (or three) of Baleia Gin - their own craft gin distilled locally on Sao Miguel island with beautiful notes of sweetness and Atlantic Ocean saltiness. Proceeds go to support whale conservation!

Pros: World class vegan cuisine

Cons: None

Unforgettable experience

To find vegan food is not easy on the island, so we were very grateful about this special experience we made. The vegan cozido, vegan ice cream, homemade bread, gin tasting... So delicious!

Vegan experience on an island paradise

Solar Branco's vegan cozido is not just about the food, it is about the entire experience. When you arrive, Caz will take you for a 20 minute drive out to the traditional volcano vents where locals drop their cozidos to cook in the sulfuric steam for 8 hours. You get to bask in the delicious smell of the stew all the way home where you will then be welcomed to the gin library and treated to a little bit of the history of gin, as well as marvel at the wonderful gins on offer in Ali's collection. The team then leave you to have a private dinner with wine, soft drinks and the vegan cozido as well as home made bread. For dessert we had lovely homemade vegan icecream. What we really appreciated was the focus on local, seasonal products - Caz sources everything on the island and is very particular about using what is the best of the season. The vegan icecream even had mint harvested from the onsite farm! The food is delicious but what you are really getting is the entire experience, being hosted on the eco estate and learning more about the island. If you are lucky you will also meet a few furry friends. If we had more time we would have stayed in the cottage and experienced a few more of their offerings. A truly 'eco' estate at the heart of it with wonderful and generous hosts. It really is something very different to experience on magical Sao Miguel.

Pros: unique experience, sustainable and thoughtful, welcoming staff

Experiência única, a não perder!

Foi necessária marcação prévia e pagamento antecipado. Fomos jantar.

Pros: Vegano!

Most amazing Vegan Cozido in the Azores!

Finding vegetarian or vegan places to eat is limited on this island, thankfully we found this place that specialises in a vegan cozido dinner.

This is a tasty take on the traditional meat-based dish. Loved it and would strongly suggest everyone tries it!

Pros: Excellent food, specially vegan made, Private dinning space is amazing and cozy
