good at wylam! - Edit
snackwallah had a tent at the curry themed wylam food event this weekend, and we tried both their menu options. i can't remember the names but one was a sort of indian fried sandwich, which i wish i could describe better, but it was honestly great, i couldn't fault it! the second was a sort of curry with a dipping bread. this was also nice, but i didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as the sandwich, i couldve eaten that over and over again!!

In addition to the awesome all-vegan food, a nice big anti-racism sign today. Love this place. Today we shared Curry Banquet and Curry of the Day plus turmeric ginger lassi plus a hibiscus drink - all tasty, fresh and good value.

Luscious lunch - Edit
Went for lunch on a shopping and art trip to Newcastle. We shared a pickled pakora wrap, Mumbai sandwich and samosa plate, sitting in at the tables. Great food, excellent service and good value. Will have to return.

Heavenly Snack Food - Edit
Friendly Service and a lovely menu all freshly made. Nice corner to sit in and watch the eclectic world of Grainger Market go by. Had main meals but best for stopping in for a snack. 100% plant based and one of the nicest Masala Chai around.

And I'll remember this occasion - Edit
Updated from my previous 2018 review to reflect a new location in the market and price increases.
Read moreSituated in a most pleasant section of Grainger Market, away from the sight and rancid stench of the butchers and fishmongers. The vibrant Snackwallah has found such an extremely popular home here. You will find delicious Indian street food at fantastic prices. We had a pakora plate with chutneys at £4, a curry of the day for £7 and a bowl of dhal with rice at £5. Two cups of spicy massala chai tea at £2 each made a most reasonable £20 Lunch for two. Plenty of seating is now available. Vegan Indian street food in Newcastle! Who said modern life was rubbish?

Good food, good value, good vibes. - Edit
Snackwallah has been on my to do list for a long time, but whenever I had the chance there was always a queue & very full seating area, which put me off because I'm impatient, but should probably be read as a popularity vote.
Read moreI had the pickled pakora wrap & pani puri, with a masala chai. Total price came to £11.50, but the portions sizes were good & could easily have been shared by 2 people - the wrap was cut in half already. In fact - I would definitely recommend if you’re going with a friend to share a variety of dishes than pick your own separate meals. (The photos I took were after I’d eaten more than half of it)
I’m a coffee guy, so was disappointed that they don’t do coffee at all - they recommended their market stall neighbour for coffee instead which I guess is a nice gesture, but I had hoped they might do something similar to the (not vegan) karak coffee that Chaiiwala & other west-end tea/coffee shops sell. I settled for a masala chai, which was served immediately so I could drink it whilst I waited, which in the end was not very long. The food was served quickly, the staff were lovely & friendly, and the menu on the blackboard was simple & clear, so someone like myself with poor eyesight (and chronically indecisive) had no trouble picking a dish.
Pani puri came with a side of green chutney which you might normally dip or pour into the puri - but I actually used this to dip my wrap too & it was excellent. I have no idea how they get their puri so perfectly round but they really are delightful. Until I reached the counter I actually hasn’t realised that everything was vegan - and I definitely wouldn’t have been able to tell from the masala chai or yoghurt.
The vibes are winning, the colourful frontage & décor really stand out amongst the other market stalls. They span 3 units, so there’s plenty of seating space, and it’s easy to find - it’ll be the first thing you see if you’re entering the market from Grainger street.
It’s a big thumbs up from me & I’ll definitely be back soon - even if I have to join a queue.

Cool little place - Edit
Enjoyed the options here. Had the curry of the day and something else that I can’t remember the name of, but it was all nice. Quirky little place with nice staff. Moderate to good prices. Great to have a little place like this that’s 100% vegan.

I had the curry banquet (£12) and an iced chai (£2). Flavours were excellent, but I wouldn't say the portions were huge. I don't think it's too expensive compared to other places these days but the prices have increased. There's seating or you can take out. Service was a bit slow, but they may have been short-handed that day. I'm sure I'll visit again.

Small curry with ¼ of a naan for £7 - Edit
Dunno where people got the banquet for £5.50 - it's £12 on the menu now. I had a fairly small bowl of curry and daal and rice with naan that turned out to be a quarter of the smallest naan you've ever seen. And I'd still have just about given it 5* as the food was delicious - but it loses a star as I was told to throw my aluminium drinks can in the trash as they don't recycle them

Pros: Tasty food, Nicely presented, Fairly priced
Cons: A quarter of a naan is not a naan, You have to walk past a lot of butchers en route, Recycle your aluminium cans it's 2023 goddammit
