Probably microwaved… - Edit
Was excited to see a separate vegan menu but was disappointed with the lasagne. It was really dry and hard in places. The garlic bread was also really dry. Chips were good though. For desert the sticky toffee pudding was lovely. Apple pie was okay, and came with chocolate ice cream which I wasn’t a fan of. Worth noting the staff were lovely and there isn’t much choice around there so beggars can’t be choosers!

Disappointing - Edit
We were really happy to find a place that has so many vegan items on the menu. We had the garlic bread as a starter which was super dry and not tasty. As a main I took the burger. Unfortunately the patty was burned and there was nothing else on the burger than the patty and some lettuce. I don't know if that's normal for Scotland. Not even a sauce 😂

Read more. went above and beyond to offer a good range of vegan mains and desserts.
They even gave us red velvet cakes to take away. So thoughtful.
A gem in the North.

Tasty curry - Edit
Operating a reduced menu due to reduced staff, Smoo Cave Hotel still served up a delicious vegan chickpea and butternut squash curry which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Good selection of vegan mains - Edit
We visited here (twice) in June 2021 after seeing reviews saying vegan options were available. There is a separate vegetarian/vegan menu with 5 vegan options (chilli, lasagne, thai curry, chickpea curry and pizza). We tried everything except for the pizza and enjoyed what we had. It's not fancy food but good satisfying fayre and generous portions. The only dessert option was vegan vanilla ice cream but the waitress recommended a visit to nearby Cocoa Mountain for vegan treats (hot chocolate, chocolate croissants and hand made chocolates).

Amazing food - Edit
Did not expect this place to have as much option as it does, and it was amazing quality. Very nice staff and very nice interior. Would 100% come back!

Vegan choices - Edit
Pleasantly surprised to find a nice after poor offerings in previous visits. Very friendly staff. I had the Thai curry but other options included a chickpea and spinach curry, baked potato with choice of fillings and the pizza had vegan options too.

Friendly staff and good food - Edit
Had a chickpea curry and Thai red curry on offer which tasted nice, as well as a vegan apple pie with ice cream. Usually more options but had run out of a few things I'm lead to believe.

It's Great to have opportunities on the NC500. The food here was ok, nothing special, but still good. The staff was very kind.
