Several vegan options, room to improve

Sizzling Siam’s positive points are its central location and the fact that several of their dishes can be made without animal products upon request, which we always appreciate (not including their curries, which contain fish sauce). That said, there are a few fundamental things that could be improved, which would make the place more recommendable for people with plant-based or healthier diets:

1. Add more vegetables. Most of their dishes, when requested to be made vegan, tend to be mostly starch — either noodles or rice — with only a few bits of veggies This is an unfortunate consequence of being a meat-centric establishment where vegan options are merely an afterthought: they can serve their dishes without meat and eggs, but the only thing they can replace them with is tofu. Adding a substantial amount of whole veggies to their dishes would help.

2. Offer brown rice: They currently serve only white rice, and we wish they would support healthier diets by offering brown rice as an option.

3. Give the planet a little love: Currently, the only ecologically responsible way to eat here is to bring one’s own takeout containers and utensils. They package their takeout dishes in large styrofoam containers and then put those in polythene plastic bags, which is pretty much the least eco-friendly option available to restaurants, and there are now so many less-harmful alternatives, which many of their neighboring establishments are using. Even dining in produces waste because they serve “for here” orders on “disposable” plates with plastic utensils. We wish they would use reusable plates and utensils for dine-in orders and eco-friendly packaging for to-go orders (e.g. paper-based or plant-based containers and utensils).

If they do improve on these points, we’ll happily update this.
