Some incidents but overall good experience - Edit
The food is really tasty. We had a couple of misunderstanding, as we were not told that we were supposed to fill a sheet to order so we waited long time for nothing. Also we specify that one of us is allergic to nuts but they brought us the byriani with nuts. They apologized and prepared another one. Food was very very good, price is definitely above average but worth it

Good, no nonsense, tasty food - Edit
The service is good and very helpful regarding the vegan options. We had potatoe & peas, potatoe & cauliflower with chapati, which were nice, maybe a bit too oily for our liking.

Tasty curries and chapati - Edit
We really enjoyed our curries. They said the vegetarian ones could be veganised. We got the brinjal masala, dhall, jeera potato and mixed veg. Our favs were the jeera and brinjal ones. All real tasty, flavoursome and not at all oily. The chapatis were a highlight too. Note - we asked for medium spicy the first night then spicy the second night, but neither time was that spicy, so they seem to be conservative with the spice! More pricy than other places in town but worth it.

Amazing vegetarian - Edit
It's a small place with simply yummy home cooked indian food. Not too oily and spicy. Not too oily and spicy. They have a separate vegetarian menu and can make some of the dishes vegan upon request. I would say it's a must try.

Tasty! - Edit
The prices are higher then other Indian restaurants in the neighbourhood, but I had impression that the food quality is much better!

Great food and service! - Edit
We ended up going here 2 out of the 3 nights we were in Tanah Rata because the food was that good! All the staff were really friendly, too.
Read moreThe staff were great at explaining which vegetarian dishes could be made vegan (all but one so a great amount of choice) and which rice dishes/breads could be made vegan too. Anytime we weren't sure which dish was the vegan one, the staff came over and clarified, which we really appreciated. All the dishes are made fresh so I felt confident that I was getting a vegan version.
I thought it was great value, too. You can choose between small or medium sizes of each dish and I'd say a medium dish plus a bread/rice is enough. But we did end up ordering a lot more because we wanted to try everything!
Amazing food and service, definitely come here!

Fuimos dos noches a cenar a este restaurante, muy buen servicio y comida muy rica. Hay opciones veganas y sino pueden convertir las vegetarianas. Muy recomendable

More great curry in Malaysia - Edit
This is a lovely family-run restaurant just back from the busy main street in Tanah Rata. The service was very friendly and the children helping out spoke amazing English.
Read moreWe made what has become a standard order in Malaysia: matar paneer, tadka dal, and potatoes with cauliflower. There are two portion sizes and the larger one is really big. Two large portions between two people is probably about right; we went for a large and two small.
All the dishes were really tasty and a bit different from each other. This doesn't sound like much of a compliment, but sometimes you order three different curries and they come with exactly the same sauce. This wasn't the case here and it felt like care had been taken when creating each dish.
The chapatis were great too. Given the restaurant's name, we felt we should probably order some and we're glad we did.
We're likely to be back later in our stay in the Cameron Highlands!
Pros: Tasty dishes with variety of flavours, Chapatis

Okay - Edit
Disappointing after reading all the praise on happycow. Quite expensive and the quality of the vegan options wasn’t the best. For us, we found way cheaper and tastier indian vegan food in the town.

They have vegan options! - Edit
Limited number of menu options can be made vegan, such as the Chapati, aloo gobi, mixed veggies and brinjal masala. Other vegetarian options such as dhal and veg beriyani have ghee and they are not able to make them vegan. Best to specify very clearly when ordering to be safe.

Served dairy despite explicitly asking otherwise - Edit
My first few visits were good (original review below), but when I made the mistake of trusting their “please let us know if you have dietary restrictions and we will accommodate” policy and ordered the vegetable biryani with no dairy, things didn’t work out. I was served yogurt on the side and found out from the way my body reacted afterward that the no dairy request wasn’t honored for the rice either and it was definitely cooked in butter or ghee.
Read moreBetween being vegan for long enough that my body doesn’t know how to handle animal products and having always been sensitive to dairy, my stomach wound up so upset that it ruined a couple days for me.
If you’re going to order here, stick to stuff that wouldn’t have any animal products in it, as you can’t trust that they’ll actually accommodate you like the menu says they will.
Old review:
It’s not the cheapest place ever (23RM for Chana masala, bread, water, and steamed rice), but man was it good. Like really good. Polite and fast service, separate vegetarian section, vegan-accommodating and the menu asks you to specify if you want no dairy so they’re prepared to handle it.
The Chana masala was seriously excellent and the best I’ve had. Tons of flavor without being overwhelming, I loved it!

Awesome - Edit
Nice menu with separate section for vegetarian. It’s worth the wait after ordering. Delicious! We went right after they opened for dinner which was good because it fills up fast.

Brilliant! - Edit
Probably the best meal I had in Cameron Highlands. It's a bit pricier than the budget restaurants on the main road, but not much more expensive and definitely more flavourful. Gets very busy so I'd recommend going earlier rather than later. We got there 10mins after opening and by the time we finished there was a queue for the tables.

Splendid - Edit
Fresh, lovely food cooked to order. We had the aloo gobi & aloo paneer. Both were very good (please note that they use Malay spices instead of Indian, so it doesn't taste completely the same as traditional Indian cuisine).
Read moreRice comes with every curry & the chapatis/parathas are big. We paid 33rm for the both of us.
