Delicious vegan options - Edit
I had lunch here before viewing the collection at the Chester Beatty museum on Friday, July 12, 2024.
Read moreThe moussaka was delicious although skimpy on the eggplant. There was only one piece of eggplant but plenty of sliced carrots, zucchini, and potatoes mingling with the lentils and Middle Eastern spices. The dish came with rice and your choice of two side salads. I chose a beet and watermelon salad as well as a carrot couscous salad. Everything was delicious and the serving was huge. I'd give this place a five star rating for its vegan entrees. Too bad that I cannot because they serve meat. The price was a very reasonable 13.60 euros.
There's both indoor and outdoor sitting. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was very central and easy to find.

As good as ever - Edit
This café in the Chester Beatty has a mix of hot and cold dishes — with hot dishes being vegan, vegetarian, and meat — as well as desserts, pastries, and hot & cold beverages. They have non-dairy milk options. The best deal for lunch is to get the full plate, where you get one hot dish and up to three sides. Today they had vegan moussaka so I got that with rice, couscous with veggies & fruit, and hummus. I also got a bottled organic beverage. The moussaka was nice, with flavoring hinting more at the Middle East than Greece, as I suppose is fitting for the café’s name. I am surprised someone left here hungry as my plate was a little more than I could finish even though I was hungry; perhaps the portions vary depending on the server?

Pros: Large plates of yummy food , Nice seating options outside or under glass roof, Staff know immediately what’s vegan & vegetarian
Cons: Service is slow when they get busy , No labels, you have to ask what things are

Some vegan options - Edit
The food was really good. I had a vegan moussaka with 3 salads and all tasted very nice. They also had stuffed peppers available which looked very tasty too. Only thing that could be better is even more options.

Surprising museum café - Edit
We came across the Silk Road Cafe when we were exploring the surrounds of the Chester Beatty Museum, we were hungry and looking for vegan food and were so pleasantly surprised. We only saw that this was on HappyCow later!
Read moreAll of the food on offer is Asian/Middle Eastern/Eastern European inspired, and there were several vegan mains as well as vegan salads. We both had the moussaka with a few salads on the sides. Service was friendly and the food tasted very well. It had a homemade taste to it and was filling as well. The ordering process was a bit complicated, but it was explained to us.
There is some seating outside, but because it was raining, we chose a table in the roofed courtyard of the museum, and we enjoyed the atmosphere so much.

Delicious Middle Eastern Lunch - Edit
I've been to the Silk Road Café quite a few times over the years and the food has always been great. The vegan main and salads when I went most recently were fantastic while the three different baklavas I got for dessert were pretty good. However on this visit and on previous ones, at the end of the meal I've always found myself wishing the portions were larger. The food tastes great but for me it is not as filling as a lunch should be.
