Serves meat, vegan options available. Japanese restaurant and bar offering vegan ramen and side dishes. Open Tue-Wed 5:00pm-11:00pm, Thu-Sat 5:00pm-1:00am.
Closed Sun-Mon.
The vegan spicy miso ramen was a little bland and the only vegan ramen option, but I shared some appetizers with others (veggie gyoza, shoshito peppers, and brussel sprouts), and they were all fantastic!
The vegan spicy miso ramen is delicious (the roasted brussel sprouts 😩)! They have been very conscious of COVID-19 and have sacrificed some of their business to keep employees and customers (and our city!) safe. They are only doing takeout right now and it is packaged thoughtfully, with special reheating instructions and a note encouraging customers to reuse the containers food comes in. Awesome employees, the owner is awesome, great food, great drinks. What else could one wish for?
I'm glad there are decidedly vegan dishes around here and there, including at Shu Shop. I must disagree with this restaurant suggestion, though. There's very little selection for vegans. The "veggie" ramen bowl is very small, and not only has next-to-no veggies (or tofu, or anything else) but it's even light on noodles! The broth was pretty much just a light nothing of shoyu and slight onion flavor, which was pretty weak-sauce. My wife got the vegan miso ramen and it was about the same. The broth was better, though. I enjoyed going there with my wife just because of the experience of trying something new, and while it wasn't all that good it wasn't *bad*. You'll want to get more than we did (though that'll add up fast). Our tiny tiny veggie gyoza plate would've been good for one or the other of us. Maybe. Thing is, like most omni restaurants that have one or two completely plant-based items on the menu, vegans get to have the low-effort versions (which really sucks). Should've gotten fallafel in that place a block away!
