Best vegan food in Seoul

Hands down the best vegan food in Seoul. The owner is from Taiwan and makes legit Chinese food. She is also very sweet.

Fantastic!

Loved this place! As a non Korean speaker, ordering wasn’t the easiest, but it’s authentic places like this that make me remember how much I love living in Asia. The ladies working were so nice and my mapo tofu was delicious. I can’t wait to go back, better prepared to order more things!

The entrance to the building is just to the right when you come up the stairs of exit 5 of Yeouido station. You’ll see the number 42 right on the entrance. Go to the 5th floor and make a right.

Great vegan-friendly Chinese restaurant in Seoul

It’s located at the 5th floor of the building. Don’t let the traditional interior of the restaurant intimidate you. They have a separate menu pan for vegan.
We tried the 깐풍표고 (fried mushrooms with sweet and spicy sauce) and fried rice, all was great!

Pros: Delicious , Reasonable price

Cons: Quite hard to find(5th floor) , Old workers, thus not quite English friendly

Special Vegan Menu

Vegan specific menu with 33 options. I believe the staff are Buddhist. I had the blackbean noodles and spicy tofu rice - both were delicious and I think under 10,000! It’s on the 5th floor in case you have trouble finding it too.

Pros: Special vegan menu with many options , Good food

Yummy! Authentic meal

Very delicious
The menu vegetarian menu is in Korean and Chinese ( green book)- but you can use the main menu (yellow) that has the items in English and you can try cross reference.
The posts below me which pointed out jjajangmyeon 짜장면 ( can look at the characters to find it and it’s price 6500) and Kkanpunggi-style shiitake mushrooms (깐풍표고) which was very amazing my favourite!!!
I recommend coming here to get an authentic feel for cuisine. I feel value for money is very good here. The prices are reasonable given the size of the portions. Dishes that are share plates cost more but works out fair considering the number of people eating it.
It’s easy to find with the instructions provided below( thank you so much!) - exit out of the subway exit 5 and the building is right in front of you - take elevator to floor 5 and turn right and walk to the end that’s the restaurant.

Pros: Lots of options , Large portion

Cons: Non English menu

Good authentic food - vegan and sattvic available

This restaurant has survived in the area for decades, many of its customers being Chinese and Taiwanese tells of its authenticity.

I am always amazed by the large vegan menu (green color!) that is available upon request! There are still so many dishes I have yet to try and so far I have always been happy with the food. Beside the noodles with black sauce (Jjajang myeon 자짱면) and noodles in spicy broth (Jjamppong 짬뽕), which are classics at Chinese restaurants, they serve vegan versions of dishes including stir-fried or deep-fried tofu, mushrooms and vegetables.

I highly recommend their Kkanpunggi-style shiitake mushrooms (깐풍표고)! It's spicy and so flavorful!

If you are not fond of onions, garlic and the likes or follow a sattvic diet (such as Buddhist monks), it is possible to prepare food without those ingredients. Normally, staff will ask you about this, after you inquire about the vegan menu.

It can get noisy and busy at times, seeing that it is located within a bustling working district. The Chinese-style interior with plastic table cloth and plastic tableware is rather practical than elegant - be aware of this if you are looking to find a fancy dinner location.
But the food is really good!!

Pros: excellent food, authentic, sattvic (no onion, no garlic etc.) optional

Cons: interior and serving-style is practical, atmosphere can be noisy

Delicious vegan/vegetarian chinese food

It was my second visit at this restaurant. The first time, it was a bit hard to find the restaurant. I didn’t have any problems ordering like previous reviewers, as i am local and speak korean. Had Jjajangmyeon both times and was very satisfying. Although most of the menus are expensive and for many people, there are also single-dish(single-person) menus (jjajangmyeon 짜장면 being one of those). The cost was 6,500 won for a Jjajangmyeon, which in my opinion is not expensive at all. Would recommend going in a group though, so that you would have a choice to share a big dish, as well as having a single-dish by yourself.

Pros: Has a whole menu for vegetarian options., Very tasty food., Affordable prices for single-dish menus.

Cons: Hard to find., Not as variety of single-dish menus.

Good chinese restaurant

The 2 previous reviews are spot on. This place can be hard to find, as nothing is written in english. The main thing to note is you should take exit number 5 from the station and the building is just in front of you as you come out of exit number 5. Take the lift to 5th floor, and the chinese restaurant is the last on the right.

The waiters cannot speak english, so ask for the owner, who speaks good english. She recommended good options for me and the food was very tasty. The dumplings were very nice. She tailor made a mixed vegetables dish in garlic sauce for me, which also was very nice.

The menu is pricey and the portions are large. I asked for a "half" portion and she gladly made it for me and charged me only half the price.

A plate of dumplings was Won10,000 for 10 dumplings. She made me 3 and just charged me Won3,000.

Pros: English menu, Tasty and customised food

Cons: Waitresses cannot speak or understand english

Veggie Chinese food in Seoul

I found this place pretty easily thanks to the very helpful previous review. I would add that there are many exits for the station, but the restaurant is in the building that the map pin suggests and is a 5 storey arcade building with lots of small shops and restaurants inside.

The veggie menu is all in Chinese but the lady at the front desk spoke good english (though not the waitress).

The prices seem high because the dishes on the veggie menu are designed to share Chinese style (2 to 3 or 4 to 5 people size). I remember one dish was 22,000 Won (2 to 3 size). I think I managed to persuade them to make me a slightly smaller portion for a lower price.

Whilst the dishes in the veggie menu are written in Chinese the section headings in the veggie menu are in english (!) so at least you have some idea what you might be getting if you want to take a chance....

I had a bean curd dish labelled spicy on the menu and a mushroom dish with ginger (also spicy). Didn't order carbs. Both were great, not oily and I didn't manage to finish it all.

I was in Seoul for work, staying nearby, and I had better luck getting a veggie / vegan meal here than at the fancy westernised hotel where I was staying, so thanks to shindongyang and the previous reviewer!

If only we could understand the vegetarian menu....

Firstly - to get to the restaurant enter the first building you see when you come out of Yeoeuido station and go up to the 5th floor. You will see the restaurant's name in Chinese in the elevator.
We were excited to try this restaurant, hearing it has a separate vegetarian menu, but to our surprise, the vegetarian menu was in Chinese only, from beginning to end, and therefore completely useless to us....sigh! the waitresses didn't know English at all, but then the owner, who spoke English eloquently, came to us and made sure that whatever we pick they will bring us in its vegetarian version. We also specified that we don't eat eggs or cheese so that they'll understand the vegan requirements as well.
The ordering was a guessing game on our part, and the vegetarian menu was unfortunately put aside though it surely had a lot to offer...
We ended up ordering a vegetable noodle soup, tofu (they call it "bean curd") mushroom dish, which was delicious, fried rice, fried dumplings (tasty yet extra oily) and eggplant-potato dish (oily, yet extra tasty). The ordering was something like: "do you have anything with tofu?", "do you have vegetable soup?" and so on... not my favorite way of doing things, but it was okay eventually.
Note that the price of each dish is high, so take that into consideration if you're on a budget. We ended up paying 60,000 altogether.
During dinner time the restaurant was full and seemed to be a favorite spot among the local Chinese people. We came in just before it filled up and found it somewhat depressing - with its old fashioned wedding-hall decor and burdening silence. Better avoid that if you can.
Will we come here again? I'm not sure. Even though my partner concluded the meal was "very tasty", due to the price and the menu struggle, in addition to the oiliness of the food, I think I'd better try the salad bar on the 1st floor for a cheaper and healthier meal. If it really happens I'll update HappyCow right away.

Pros: Helpful English speaking owner, Extremely close to Yeoeuido station, Kick ass tofu and mushrooms dish :)

Cons: The vegetarian menu is in Chinese...!, Old style restaurant, no background music, Expensive
