Best vegan soba and tempura

We came here after reading the reviews here on HappyCow and are super happy we did! They didn’t have the vegan options on their menu but after we asked the waitress and they prepared them for us! It was super delicious and especially the tempura was worth coming for!
Everything was freshly prepared, the traditional atmosphere beautiful and the staff more than helpful and friendly.

Delicious Vegan Tempura and Soba, Nice Traditional Atmosphere

Original Review (March, 2022): The traditional Japanese-style architecture and atmosphere of the shop is really nice. There is a museum next door and a garden as well as the "2 door" Senbei Shop/Chocolate Factory, which seems to be run by the same company.

The soba and tempura were very good. It came with fried Senbei (rice crackers) that were covered in a salty sauce. I had never eaten it before but it was quite good (although very salty). There was complementary hot Soba Tea (self-serve) which was very delicious.

The vegan menu was not on the table when we sat down. We had to ask for it. When it came, it was written all in English, which was OK for us but might be hard if some Japanese vegans came who didn't know English. It would be nice if the menu included both languages and was always put on the table without having to ask for it.

The staff seemed sort of surprised when we asked for the vegan menu. I think they do not get many vegan customers. Hopefully that will change!

Update (March, 2023): It was very crowded when we arrived, and they showed us to the building next door (kura) which had additional seats. It was lucky for us because it was not crowded in the kura and it was also a more comfortable temperature. We didn't make a reservation, and they told us that it would take a while if we wanted to eat vegan tempura. We weren't very hungry anyway because we had eaten somewhere else earlier in the day, so my husband ordered the Zarusoba without tempura and I ordered oshiruko (dessert). It was delicious! I was surprised that when we went to pay at the register, the chef came out and asked us if we had come last year too. It seems like he remembered us! Maybe not many vegans have visited since then.

Vegan Soba, Feel the Umami

I like soba noodles, but I don't eat much soba. Because there is a "Dashi" problem, but the biggest thing is that I think eating soba at the restaurant is special (Maybe because I'm Japanese lol ?). Besides this, there are still few soba restaurants which are for vegan.

But this restaurant serve vegan soba. I ordered "Tempura Kake Soba" (Hot soba with Tempura). When I sipped the soup, I said "This is it". The taste was so delicious and made me happy. And the amount of soba was plenty. I was so satisfied!

Must Try NINOHE Vegan Menu!!

This is recommended when you come to Ninohe. You can eat vegan-friendly soba. Tempura is also vegan compatible, so this is also recommended. It takes a little time to fry in a special oil separated from the fish. If you want to use special oil, you need to ask the staff.
