Authentic Indian cuisine

Masala Dosa is my favourite dish. Samosa and Aloo Tiki are great appetizer to share with friends. The Paratha is thick and nice. And don't miss the Masala Tea. It is the best in Kowloon!!

Pros: Economy, Photoed menu, Masala tea, which is included in the set

Cons: Not near MTR stations, Could have more choices of curry

mwah

I tried a tally and some samosa's and was not impressed. But they are not expensive and they have so much more to choose from; would eat here again.

Home cooked simple and tasty Indian food

I was in the area, and was happy to be able to try this place with my parents. We all loved it.

It is very casual in terms of the decor and style. There is a large photo album with individually printed photos of each dish, and laminated copies of the menu.

The woman running it was super friendly:
- My mum is Jain and doesn't eat onions and garlic, for which there was a special symbol on the menu.
- I am vegan, and was surprised to see a symbol on the menu for this too (veganism is not usually an understood concept amongst Indian restaurants). When I ordered the set lunch and said, I want the vegan option, so you will need to take out the yoghurt, the lady smiled and said, I know what vegan means :)

We all ordered the set lunch with one curry, daal, chapatis, rice and masala tea. Loved the food. It tasted home cooked. The chapatis were yum, freshly cooked and hot. Food was tasty and not oily. We ordered our tea at the end - no soymilk but the lady made me a black masala tea with lemon, which was very good. HKD 75 each.

It is quite out of the way.. Around a 10 minute walk from Ho Man Tin MTR station, so only handy if you're in the area.

Pros: Vegan awareness and symbol on menu, Home cooked tasty food, Friendly service

Sharmaji Indian Veggie Restaurant, Hong Kong

If I may update my previous review on this place. I've been 3 times to this establishment. Each time it has been excellent. My girlfriend and I are always careful to point out that we are interested in food that doesn't contain milk products. The waiting staff have been excellent in accommodating that request.

The food is wonderfully tasty, reasonably priced and the staff helpful. This is my girlfriend's favourite of the Indian vego places in HK. I'm not sure I would go that far but I certainly agree it's a contender.

Very good indeed.

Pros: vegan friendly, Tasty & good value food, Helpful staff

Tasty, simple and inexpensive

I really liked this restaurant - we visited twice. You can buy inexpensive meal sets that include one or two curries and a bread. I had black dal with a parantha bread, vegetables and rice. It was all very tasty. The second time my dal had a small dollop of butter on top though, so be careful if you are a strict vegan. The service was also very friendly.

Tasty Indian Takeaway

After being recommended to visit a walk to find this place was greeted with calm and serene atmosphere and pleasant staff keen to make your visit enjoyable. A query about vegan dishes was answered without trouble and complete understanding. Will be using this as a local for Veggie fast food

Pros: Price, Range , Variety

Cons: Location

Crazy buzy at lunch time

In the jewelry district.

Feeding the Jain & Marwari gem dealers.

Run by a couple from Himachal Pradesh.

I always order a thali with extra chapatis.

The rice is very, very white.

Not enough veggies for my liking.

Regulars seem to get served first - expect a long wait if you visit at lunchtime.

A lot of dairy used - vegans specify clearly.

Interesting food

I would have enjoyed the dining experience a lot better if it weren't for one of the staff to recommend almost identical dishes to us. Because we were new to this type of cuisine we kindly asked a staff member to help us and she pointed out 3 dishes that had pastries made in different shapes...but as we found out, of the same taste. The tastes were nice but because we managed to sample only the same thing three times but paid more than expected for it, I hope that other consumers would be more careful than me coming here.

Pros: Small portions for moneys worth

Cons: Misleading staff member, Too little sauce, Expensive

Hi Bluecloud,

Its a real shame you didn't enjoy Sharmaji. Me and my girlfriend have a been a few times now even though its around an hour away by bus. We've always enjoyed it immensely. I can't help but wonder why it didn't work out for you.

Thanks for contributing. Happy travels.
