WFPB options - Edit
Secret menu: Lawenda Bowl in honor of the Kaiser MD Turing people on to healthy eating. The Lawenda bowl is a mixture of quinoa with steamed veggies beans, it’s often different though as they use veggies on hand.

Good option for vegans - Edit
I love their veggie burrito (which includes marinated tofu, beans, and grilled veggies, and their roasted veggie bowl (with a vegan pesto sauce, served over rice and quinoa). They have other vegan options such as salad, and most dishes can be made with tofu instead of meat. Great tasting food, especially for the area. Not many restaurants in the AV serve quinoa and kale... lol. They have a salsa bar with a delicious avocado salsa and pickled carrots, to name a few of my favorites. Vegan options are clearly marked on the menu.

Decent burrito - Edit
Nice for a bite with non-vegans. The tofu in the burrito is always too soft and bland. Could use more seasoning, flavor.

Good for the area - Edit
Sharkey's doesn't compare to veg-friendly places in LA, but it definitely hits the spot when you're hungry and don't want to leave Palmdale. The tofu and sweet potatoes are my favorite. Vegan options are marked. Employees are friendly.

Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill Rocks Organic Veg - Edit
How did this vegan foodie not know about the organic, non-GMO and most especially “secret vegan menu” at Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill (www.sharkys.com)? Previously not on the radar, this cool, fast and casual restaurant, which is quickly expanding beyond its 21 California locations (coming soon to Portland), is now buzzworthy for my fine palate as well as all Vegan Pros who love highly nutritional food at a good price.
Read moreOn a fact-finding mission with Sharky’s CEO Steve Paperno and COO David Goldstein – along with a farmer from the very organic Deardorff Family Farms – I discovered why this vegan-friendly restaurant chain attracts those who are seeking clean eating and drinking. Paperno says his “lifestyle franchise brand” has the purpose of “inspiring change and creating paths to a healthier, more sustainable world.” Now, I’m not sure if Sharky’s will change the world, but the educational visit did blow my mind and taste buds). Of course, for us vegans, the non-GMO tofu bowls, burritos and salads were the most inspiring part of the meal. And though not all of Sharky’s ingredients are organic, these are: pinto beans, black beans, brown rice, white rice, quinoa, greens, kale, black beans, spinach and romaine lettuce.
Sharkys Quinoa SaladFor vegans, Sharky’s delivers its no-GMO tofu in bowl, burrito and taco forms. There’s also a perfectly-balanced “superfood” quinoa salad for vegans with organic red and white quinoa, organic baby spinach, cabbage, green onions, jicama, cucumber, sweet peppers, cilantro, toasted flax and chia seeds all tossed in an avocado vinaigrette.
And then there’s the “secret vegan menu.” Created with the help of an LA food blogger who would eat weekly at Sharky’s and bend the menu to her plant-based ways, these three items bring even more nutrition to the plate. I tried the “AJ burrito” (also available in a bowl), which featured organic brown rice, organic black beans and steamed broccoli. When this healthful dish was set in front of me, I thought perhaps it would be bland. I was wrong. Even without adding any of Sharky’s signature avocado sauce or smoky salsa, the “secret” burrito was creamy, flavorful and satisfying.
Don’t miss Sharky’s freshly-squeezed lemonades and teas as well as absolutely delicious sangrias and craft microbrews such as watermelon basil and hibiscus-and-ginger infused green tea.

Tip: Order the AJ burrito - Edit
Chef AJ is a whole foods, plant-based, no oil, vegan chef based in LA. She has worked with the Sharkey's chain to offer a healthier vegan option. It isn't on the menu but staff at all locations should know about it. Just ask for the AJ burrito. It consists of a whole wheat (no honey) flour tortilla filled with organic brown rice, black or pinto beans (I usually ask for both), steamed broccoli, and guacamole. The only ingredient that contains oil is the tortilla (small amount). Funny thing is that the burrito automatically comes with a side of fried tortilla chips! They do have an amazing salsa bar. You can also request it as a bowl (without the tortilla) over a bed of baby greens and say no to the chips if you want to make it an oil-free meal. *Burrito is on the small side. **Chipotle burritos are at least twice as big.

Cons: Not on the menu (have to know about it), Expensive for the amount of food you get, Will probably leave satisfied not "full"
