I am very sorry to hear this sad news. Your cafe was one of my favourites in Japan, as I know it was for many visitors. I wish you all the best for the future.

The beauty lies within minimalism. - Edit
No chairs, no tables, no big menu, only a few pillows and two dishes to choose from. How awesome is that. The food is delicious Japanese dish or a curry (did not try this one). The staff are really friendly and the restaurant is cheap compared with the vegetarian places around.

Beautiful place - Edit
This place is wonderful. The cook explained all the ingredients of the two dishes they offered for lunch and both tasted good - not the best food ever but satisfying enough. They put a lot of effort and love into their dishes. We had the lunch set and the curry. I preferred the curry, which also came with some delicious lassi for dessert.

It's a nice experience and reasonably priced :)
Pros: all vegan, cozy and friendly

Great little place! - Edit
Vegan options are severely limited in Hiroshima but luckily this little cafe is excellent.
Read moreAs is usual in Japan, a set meal is offered which I actually prefer. There's no tables, so you sit on the floor for that authentic Japanese dining experience.
The food is delicious, fresh and very well presented.
The lady who runs Shanti is also super nice. She speaks some English and tells you what's in all of the small plates.
Highly recommended.

Delicious, healthy, relaxing - Edit
This has been perhaps our favorite meal in Japan. Everything we had was good. The venue is a traditional Japanese one in which you must take off your shoes and sit on the floor, which forces better sustained posture than a nerd like me is accustomed to. We loved this place.

Peaceful refuge from crowds - Edit
This cafe is in a quiet back street, just 1 street to the west of Chuo-dori and 2 streets south of the Washington Hotel. As one approaches the street from the Chuo-dori direction, there is a bicycle shop called ‘Half-Life’ on the corner. Turn left there and walk about 100m. A signboard is on the ground level on the left. The café is on the second floor.
Read moreThis is was a peaceful and quiet place which is a pleasant change from the higher level of sound we’ve noticed in Hiroshima compared with other cities in Japan. One sits on tatami mats overlooking the street and lunch is served on individual miniature tables. The chef is English speaking and she explains the dishes when she serves them. The set consisted of rice, asparagus in shizo leaf, a tofu pattie, a small mixed salad, orange kelp with cumin seed, pickled cucumber, and miso soup while dessert was a sticky rice ball with sweet potato in a thick and rich pumpkin and coconut sauce accompanied by a frothy green tea. All the dishes are very tasty and somewhat different from others we have had elsewhere. They were very satisfying. Another option is a curry and rice.
Pros: Good food at reasonable price, Chef explains dishes , Wonderfully peaceful atmosphere

Beautiful place and food - Edit
Everything was prepared with a lot of love to the detail. Beautifully decorated room. Lunch set and curry set were both very tasty, fresh and filling, one of the cheapest meals of this kind after two weeks in Japan. The owner (?) was very nice, too. Don't miss out!!

Wonderful Experience - Edit
Didn't know anything about this place aside from the name before I went, but left feeling wonderfully surprised. There is traditional floor seating on tatami mats in a very peaceful second floor space with natural light filling the room. The lunch platter was of shojin ryori style, which was beautifully presented with a balance of colours. The taste matched the presentation with each dish having its own distinctive yet clean flavour. Dessert was a beautiful matcha tea and red bean sweet, with a paper crane folded as a rest for the dessert spoon. For a very reasonable price, the utmost care went into every part of this meal, and I'm very grateful for this experience.

excellent food, great service and beautiful setting - Edit
Don't know where to start: everything was great! Food was delicious, though I think they only have one set option available. Service was fast and friendly and the café is a small, beautiful place with lots of light. Tatami mats were the perfect cherry on top to the experience!

Excellent vegan Japanese food - (surprisingly cheap) - Edit
This is a 100% vegan restaurant. We arrived 45 min before closing time and were afraid that we won't get any food anymore, but the very friendly English speaking staff offered us a curry lunch set, which was incredibly good. While we waited for the (likely) fresh prepared food, we got some green tea. The main dish was a yellow/brown curry with a huge ball of rice and tofu (imitating scrambled egg) and some fried Tofu/pumpkin thing. There was also a small carrot and tofu salad. As a desert we got a banana lassi and sweet sticky rice coated with red bean paste. Everything was super delicious. Especially the main dish was only mildly flavored. Therefore you could really taste the individual fresh ingredients. I was surprised of the huge portion size. The set costed only 1000¥.

Great food and experience - Edit
One of my favourite places that I ate at in Japan! Food was amazing, set menu with two options, both meal plus desert. Great prices, between 1000-1500 yen. Had a Japanese interior, very relaxing. Sat on floor cushions, and ate from small trays that came out with the food. Also got given a origami crane. Felt like a very Japanese experience :) the staff were lovely too.

The food was filling and beautifully served. The two women working there were lovely and they taught me some basic Japanese as well as helping me to get around the city. The dessert was great too, in particular the matcha.

Wow! Amazing food at a very reasonable price - Edit
Thanks to Happy Cow we found this amazing authentic Japanese restaurant in Hiroshima. We walked from the Hiroshima station and found it easily enough.
Read moreThe staff are all soooo lovely and genuine. All have such great English!
The food was 10/10, massive portion size with dessert to finish! ¥1500 is a steal for this level of service and food quality / size. Do yourself a favour and go here, you won't be disappointed.

Amazing, don't miss this place! - Edit
Upon reading other great reviews, my husband and I stopped into this place. On their website they recommend making a reservation since their space is small, and making a reservation is easy - just email them at the address provided on the website and let them know when you'd like to come (emailing in English is fine, since the woman who I think might be the owner has fantastic English.)
Read moreFrom beginning to end this is an incredible experience. The space where you eat is softly lit with natural light, and you sit on the floor Japanese style. Beautiful plants make for a relaxing atmosphere. The staff are all incredibly kind, and great care and love goes into making the seasonal menu. The tea and dessert was also amazing! Everything was delicious, and I although I felt a bit headache-y and tired when I entered the restaurant, I felt really refreshed and filled with energy when I left. The people who work here are very open to questions and are really helpful, so I was happy to have stopped in here on our first full day in Hiroshima. We highly recommend this place for other vegans, vegetarians, or anyone who wants to enjoy fresh, healthy and delicious Japanese food!

Wonderful! - Edit
This is a mixture of shoujin ryori (traditional vegan religious food) and the odd western dish. The food is quite nice and uses a lot of Japanese ingredients that you don't see often (e.g. shishito chillies). It's a set menu of several small dishes, tea, dessert, and matcha (bitter whisked green tea, as used in a tea ceremony).
Read moreSo no worries about ordering if you don't know any Japanese -- everyone gets the same thing.
The setting is semi formal, served in a screened tatami room. It's a good way to get a taste of ryokan or temple dining if you're new to Japanese culture.
The staff are super nice and there is at least one fluent English speaker. Highly recommended as a special occasion lunch.
Pros: A lovely traditional experience, Genuine Japanese vegan cuisine, Value for money
Cons: Very hard to find -- your best bet is googling it

Lovely oasis - delicious food! - Edit
This restaurant was a phenomenal find on a hot day in Hiroshima! The restaurant is on the second floor, in a small sun filled room covered in tatami mats adjacent to a Yoga Studio. We had the set lunch which was super delicious and very filling. The food was extremely creative and the macha and dessert at the end of the meal were unforgettable!

Three key notes:
1. It's kind of tricky to find. Not much signage outside.
2. The place is small -- reservations are recommended.
3. You will be sitting on tatami mats on the floor - no tables.

most interesting vegan food I've ever had - Edit
This place is incredible and you need to come here once you're in Hiroshima. I love that they try to combine Japanese traditions with veganism. The way you sit is very traditional and the food is apparently Japanese temple food - according to the staff who explained the food and the culture to me in detail.

superbe surprise - Edit

Awesome Vegan Experience in Hiroshima! - Edit
Vegan Cafe is neatly tucked away in Shanti Yoga Studio in Hiroshima, not too far from the Peace Memorial Park.
Read moreOpen for a set lunch from midday until sold out and bookings recommended, we took our chances during a day of shopping and were in luck! The lovely staff asked us to remove our shoes and we took our seat on the floor on a cushion.
We were brought an amazing assortment of Japanese treats including rice, miso soup, tofu, pickles, salads and a sweet potato cake which was then followed by tea (we had matcha) with a slice of chocolate orange cake.
For 1500 yen, the meal is surprisingly filling and for the lovely, tranquil experience it is well worth it. The staff are attentive and friendly, genuinely interested in veganism and creating awesome vegan food.
In a city that is limited in vegan options, Vegan Cafe is a welcome addition to Hiroshima!
Pros: All vegan!, Lovely staff, Great experience
