Nice food next to a temple😄 - Edit
Me and my partner came here for a quick lunch on the way to the Terracotta Warriors by metro! We ordered the braised tofu & mushroom, eggplant & string beans, a portion of rice and dumplings to share. The portions are pretty big so we were very full! Everything was lovely and the restaurant is super peaceful (and quiet). I recommend it!😄The menu is all in English too, lots of options!

Good but not special - Edit

Loved the setting of the restaurant inside the temple area and staff is lovely, one person even spoke English.
We got dumplings (30 pieces!) which were a little overcooked, they came with spicy sauce. Also got fried chunks with sweet-sour sauce and pineapple, this was very nice. Pak choi with mushrooms was good too but the cauliflower with soy sauce wasn't too spectacular. It was all nice but not amazing. Flavour-wise, I prefered other temple restaurants in Xian.

Amazing food - Edit
Unlike previous reviews, I did struggle to find it. Both Google maps and Maps.Me sent me to the wrong place but I happened to come across the temple eventually.
Read moreFront door does not look like the entrance to a restaurant.
Ordered an aubergine and green bean dish but was told it wouldn't be enough so added a cauliflower dish.
Portions turned out to be big but the food was incredible. Best food I've had in China so far.
Menu all in Chinese with no pictures but a translate app does the job.

A lot of oil - Edit
The place is easy to find and we had the whole room for us. The stuff didn’t speak English, so we communicate via translated app and just showed with the fingers what we wanted. We got fried potatoes with a lot of chillis instead fried beans (what we ordered), but got them for free after telling them, that we hadn’t ordered them. With the other two dishes (oily eggplant and mapo tofu) and the beans, it was too much. Every dish was made with so much oil, that we can’t eat that much and take a lot with us home. The taste was nothing special at all.

Great place! Good service and lovely food. - Edit
Found easily by taking metro to Kangfulu and walking a little ways (maybe 10mins) using google maps. We were greeted by who we assume was the owner. She spoke amazing English and sat us outside in a lovely garden with cats! 😊 We ordered four dishes (which was way too much for us both) and all the food came quickly and was lovely. She even showed us how to properly prepare and pour the Red Tea we ordered.

Friendly and tasty - Edit
It took a little while to find and we weren't sure if we found the right place. When we got in the owner greeted us and spoke with us in good English. We sat outside as it was a lovely day. The outside area backs onto a back entrance of the temple. The owner spoke to us and made suggestions of her favourite foods. We wanted to order something and she offered an alternative as she was sure we'd have the original order many times in the future.
Read moreWe made the mistake of ordering 2 dry and one saucy dish to go with our rice (probably needed more sauce really), but the food was very good and it was great eating stuff we hadn't seen or heard of before.

Pros: Nice outdoor area, Friendly owner, Goog Food
Cons: Bit of a hunt to find

Simple, but tasty - Edit
We arrived after lunch time on a Sunday, so we were the only ones served. We chose menu option 1, which contained pickled cabbage rolls, steamed greens with chilli, mapo tofu in a dark gravy, rice and a small cake. This was one of the rare occasions in China where the portions sizes were just perfect. Usually I either receive too much and have to take away the left-overs or have to produce food waste. The staff was very nice and attentive and the prices were very cheap: 68 RMB for 2 people. Totally recommendable!

Okay experience - Edit
The walk through the temple to get to the restaurant was nice, but when I arrived I was told they only had dumplings, noodles or fried rice, so i ordered the rice. It was ok, quite a few vegetables but not much flavour. It wasn’t too oily though which made a nice change

Dunno how their English is but my Chinese is alright.
Read moreLady asked if I could handle spicy and showed me recommendations when I asked. Free tea. Cauliflower dish wash so good, spicy chips (with Hella fried chilli) were fun. Also had a bowl of rice.
One very dull boy for 62 RMB.
Didn't see the temple adjacent (I came at 8) but was happy I went. Thinking of going again tomorrow ;)
The lady asked if it was too spicy for me, then brought me a plate of tissues. I'm a bit of a sweater haha.
Very pleasant :)

Tasty food in a beautiful temple - Edit
Overall the food was really good. The surrounding temple was really peaceful and the restaurant had a nice garden where you could eat. When I visited, no-one spoke English but they did their best to communicate with me anyway.
Read moreFood was cheap but I ordered green tea to go with it and was charged 70 yuan for the very ordinary tea which was ridiculous considering my two dishes were only around 40 yuan together. Maybe my own fault for not asking before ordering, but I felt a little cheated anyway.

A gem of a place run by really nice people - Edit
Shangdao vegetarian, Xi'an, located in side The Temple of Eight immortals.
Read moreThe eatery can be accessed through the temple entrance but if that's closed, go to the north east side of the temple and you'll find your way in. The lady who manages this place (Alice), is really sweet and a vegan herself for 20 years and is well versed in English. If you're lost on your way, give her a call and she'll guide you. She also rescues a bunch of stray animals.
There's an option to sit inside or outside in the garden, I chose to sit outside.
The food is healthy and really reasonable too.

Wonderful food in a peaceful setting - Edit
You can enter the restaurant from the street or from inside the Temple of the Eight Immortals which is what I did and I'd recommend! It's a beautiful place to walk around. The food at the restaurant was amazing and there were so many options! I had vege dumplings and a side of spicy eggplant - both divine! It was a beautiful sunny day and I sat outside under the trees, it was just perfect. Menu is in both Chinese and English and they have so many vegan versions of traditional Chinese dishes.

really good food! try the noodles - Edit
A little tricky to find as map location not accurate but just continue further north along the street as previous reviewer said, and you will see it on the left. The woman who runs the restaurant speaks great English and is very friendly. All the dishes we ordered were great but we would especially recommend getting the noodles , ask for the hand pulled ones. We got two types, both great and only 10 yuan.

Best restaurant we've eaten at in China - Edit
This is the best restaurant that we've eaten at in China! It is amazing and so, so cheap. The tea is free and they refill it quite often wich is nice. For a whole meal for 2 (soup, meal, dessert), we only paid 60 yuan.
Read moreWe're still dreaming about the fries (spicy potato sticks, that's what it's called in English). We had many dishes there and all were amazing. But, do try the fries!
The restaurant can be access from the 8 immortals temple (wich is cute and should be visted, it's only 3 yuan) or by the street. I think the nearest metro station in Kangfulu.
The owner is a kind vegan lady that has been vegan for 16 years and that rescue stray animals :) She also speaks perfect english!
