Best food we had in Reykjavik! My husband’s vegetarian dish was wonderful according to him, and my vegan dish could not have been better. The samosas and naan were delicious!!

Not great at all… just meh! - Edit
I had the Chana masala with roti. Everything was barely average.. if that, including the carrot cake for dessert. Nothing special and it was VERY expensive! Not worth the visit.

Nice restaurant with good food, staff is aware of veganism and dishes are marked as vegan in the menu. They also have a set menu for two people that can be vegan or vegetarian

Fantastic food - Edit
Love their biryani! Highly recommend. The spelt naan is vegan. The menu doesn't specify what dishes are vegan. They do have a lot of vegetarian dishes and the staff is really knowledgeable of what dishes can be made vegan. It's a cozy place on two floors (not everyone knows about the seating area on the second floor)

Cons: Should update their menu

Excellent Vegan Pakistani Food!!!!! - Edit
Deserves 5 Stars. My Pakistani partner and I ate here and to find Tarka dal which can be made with vegan butter is insane. So delicious. Samosas were authentic too. They had organic spelt naan made fresh in the Tandoor with either vegan butter (plain) or vegan butter with garlic. From a Pakistanis’ perspective incredibly authentic, warming and super kind staff. Food cooked from the heart! Lots of vegan friendly dishes which had tofu as well, very unique. 100% recommended to visit!!!

Beware: thali is expensive for vegans! - Edit
They offer thali's for around 2800 krona, which according to their menu consist of 3 hot dishes, rice, and 0,5 naan. I ordered a vegetarian thali, so the waitress asked which kind of naan I would like. The thali brought to me had 2 hot dishes, 3 pakoras, and no naan. When I asked about this they said that naan was not vegan so they did not bring it, I had pakora instead. But I thought that counted as 1 of the 3 hot dishes. So they gave extra rice. I was not happy about this, because they charge the same price for the vegan thali when they clearly offer less. In the end they gave me another hot dish (vegetarian, not vegan, which is fine for me) for take-away with the remaining rice. This worked out well for me, as it meant I had another nice meal the next day ( I had cooking facilities in my Guesthouse).
Read moreThe food was really quite nice, and they obviously are very aware what vegan means and won't serve you something not vegan by accident. But if you are not careful, you will be ripped off with the vegan thali.

Terrific - Edit
Amazing food, and a cool space. Glad we found it on our trip and given the generally cool temps in Iceland, it acts as a nice comfort food option.

Definitely come here! They can make many of their vegetarian dishes, including the set menu, vegan. I don't think there is a vegan dessert, but we got a coffee instead. The food is freshly prepared and delicious, and prices are ok for Reykjavik.

In Reykjavik, it is a bit of an adventure to find vegan food. Shalimar is right in the center of the "tourist" area, easy to find. It has an extensive vegetarian section, and the owner is knowledgeable and can make most of those dishes vegan. He is also very nice: he offered to cook another dish for my father when we "shared" too much of what he had... He wants everyone to be happy and have a good experience in his restaurant. I don't really remember what we had, but there were lentil and split pea dishes, nicely spicy, and a very good spelt vegan naan.
