Serves meat, vegan options available. Italian restaurant in a renovated Japanese "Kura" warehouse. The owners make everything by hand using fresh ingredients. Has three kinds of pasta that can be made vegan and are labeled with a "V" on the menu. Request vegan when ordering. The pasta comes with French bread and salad. The dressing is not vegan but there is olive oil and garlic pepper oil on the table which can be used instead. Open Mon 11:00am-2:30pm, Tue-Sat 5:00pm-9:00pm, Wed-Sun 11:00am-2:30pm. Closed Tue. Last orders at 2PM for lunch, 8PM for dinner.

Vegan Italian food in Kuroishi! A rarity indeed!

I found out about this shop from the owner of another restaurant in town that serves vegan food. She told me that this Italian restaurant has vegan options, so I went immediately to find out for myself!

I was surprised and happy to find that what she said was true! There are 3 kinds of pasta on the menu marked with a "V" that can be made vegan. Tell them you are vegan when ordering, as some of the options contain cheese or butter by default but can be made without it. The woman who took our order (the co-owner of the shop) is from Tokyo and knows about vegan food. Her husband, the chef, is also knowledgable and friendly.

We ordered the peperoncino (the first option on the menu), which is an olive oil, garlic, pepper-based pasta, and the amatriciana (the third option on the menu), which is a tomato sauce-based pasta. The second option that we didn't get this time is a Japanese-style pasta (soy sauce-based) with mushrooms.

Both kinds of pasta were good. Personally, they needed a bit more salt, so I added some to mine. They brought Himalayan salt for our salads, and I used it on my pasta as well. The salad was also good. I used the garlic pepper oil that was on the table as well as the salt and pepper they brought. They also brought us french bread which we ate with olive oil. For our drink, we had espresso.

They told us that we were the first vegans to come to this restaurant even though they have had vegan food on the menu for over a year. I told them that I would add their shop to Happy Cow (which they didn't know about) and that more people may come in the future if they announce it online through various channels (facebook, instagram, etc.).

The building used to be a "Kura" (a warehouse used for storing rice, apples, etc.) and is very cool. We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the shop as well as the food. We will be back!
