Best Dosas in town - Edit
Their Dosas and South Indian delicacies are top-notch. The rest of their Indian food is also really good. We go there for lunch, buffets occasional dinners and have catered from them as well.

Excellent! - Edit
Went for the Sunday buffet, which I didn’t know was happening. Everything vegan was clearly labeled and all of it was delicious. Dal and curries were so warming and authentic. Took my non-vegan dad and he went back for seconds!

Yes! - Edit
Any chance I was down that way I would make a point to stop for lunch, even if it was arguably out of the way. Now during Covid, buffets are a no go :(

Vegan and vegetarian Indian food galore - Edit
There is so much on this menu, it's incredible! If you're vegetarian, you can have it all! No worries there!
Read moreIf you're vegan, there are some things you cannot have, like dishes with paneer. However, any dish with ghee, they are happy to have made for you without ghee! Just ask. This is the most vegan friendly vegetarian Indian restaurant I've been to, and I will be back.
They have dosas and idly, which are Indian "crepe" thin pancakes with savory fillings and steamed "bread" you eat with soup or chutneys. They also have some soups, which I love - the sambar and mulligatawny are so good!
The menu is filled with so many dosas, it's crazy, but then you get to the entrees and are also delighted to find so many potato and paneer options. If you're vegan, obviously skip paneer. There are still many choices, like chick peas, as well as dishes like eggplant. Try some rice dishes, beyond just biryani. They have some Indochine stuff, too - their take on Chinese flavors.
The food here is so good, and the veggies are not disappointing. The flavors are complex, though there is definitely spice. If you don't like spice, don't come here. If you like heat/ hot spice, you'll also be happy here!
Oh, and check out the buffet!
Pros: vegan friendly, dosas, rice dishes
Cons: a lot of paneer

Wonderful Indian vegetarian/vegan food - Edit
Had lunch here, and was pleased to see vegan items noted within the buffet. That makes all the difference for me, especially given that clarified butter is often added to otherwise vegetarian dishes. Vegans can eat here with confidence.

Authentic Indian Food - Edit
Love the very tasty, flavor bursting, fresh food and the super nice staff. The menu has such an incredible variety of excellent dishes. I can even get no onion, no garlic dishes without any problem. The lunch buffet on the weekend is my favorite. So much to choose from and all so yummy and of course I love the desserts!!!

Great lunch buffet and a la carte menu, and terrific staff and energy - Edit
Saravana does not have any current reviews, until now.
Read moreI am picky about restaurants and about how they take care of vegan eaters. Saravana wins hands down on all counts.
Their lunch buffet is very good and clearly marks the many vegan items.
Their a la carte menu is even better. Great selections include such South Indian delights as uttapam and dosas. I leave this restaurant with my stomach and body feeling good rather than stuffed nor heavy nor with any oniony or other aftertaste.
Their staff can always direct you to a manager or other staffmember who knows what is vegan.
The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The energy is great here. The prices are right.
If you are in Northern Virginia, you are blessed to have Saravana Palace in the neighborhood.
Pros: Great food, Very accommodating to vegans, Great staff and energy
Cons: No cons

Awful Buffet - Edit
The buffet food had a few vegan options, but mainly seemed full of starches (rice dishes and noodles) and the battered, deep fried things were gummy and awful. The dosas we were given were actually very good and the soup was ok, but otherwise I was stunned by how bad the food was. I left thinking about what I was going to eat instead.

wonderful south indian food - Edit
delicious south indian food with friendly and attentive service.
Read morethe weekend buffet is more extravagant than the ones during the week.
the items in the buffet are on the spicy side, but they do accommodate a preference for less spicy food when you order from the menu. they also have no problems making low salt and less spicy dishes that are wonderfully flavorful when you place a catering order.
vegetable manchurian, the dosas, the idli, the bisi bali bath, are a few favorites.
