Good food, good value, mediocre service, some vegan confusion - Edit
This is an all veg South Indian place that can make many but definitely not all dishes vegan. Apparently none of their breads (Naan, poori, paratha, etc.) can be made vegan. Yet after we said we were vegan and so didn't want it, they still brought it to us. In general there seemed to be maybe a bit of a language barrier, but also the staff were just very unclear and did not seem very interested in accommodating us (they also gave my partner incorrect information about which dishes had cilantro). That said, the food itself was quite good, especially the dosas and medhu vada. And the value per dollar was very good for Manhattan. But the dining experience could certainly be improved.

Great! - Edit
Loved it. Fast service, lots of vegan options. Would definitely go back. Have to specify to make things vegan.

Quick and convenient - Edit
When I visited, I couldn't see any vegan labelling in the menu, but I have since been told there are green Vs indicating vegan options but they are a bit difficult to see. So make sure to angle your menu/squint until you see it!
Read moreWe ordered dosas, based on other reviewers and on the assumption that they are usually vegan. We were expecting that the onion in the potato and onion filling would be fried, but it was raw, which was a bit disappointing. It was quick and cheap, which is what I wanted, but I wouldn't hurry back.

Many vegan options - Edit
This branch is part of a huge worldwide all-vegetarian Indian chain. I am not a huge Indian food fan, but the food at Savarin is a safe bet, and I have enjoyed eating at this branch. They have *lots* of vegan items, all clearly marked with a green “V” in the menu.

Not vegan friendly - Edit
Before going vegan I loved coming to this restaurant for vegetarian Indian food. After making the switch to vegan I hesitated to return, and with good reason. When asking the waiters what I could eat that was cooked without ghee, they appeared to be guessing and pointed to a few options and did not make me feel confident that they would let the kitchen know of my request. I ordered the masala dosa and an appetizer they suggested and felt incredibly sick the following day, as I used to feel before going vegan. I know that there was something I ate that contained ghee it was cooked in it. I would not eat here again and can not recommend it to vegans.
