The 3 course menu was excellent. I had the nutloaf, my husband tried the celery steak with sauce Café Paris.

Excellent food - Edit
We stayed at the hotel, which was great, and enjoyed lunch and dinner at the restaurant. Both were excellent— tasty, thoughtful courses — definitely a food highlight for our trip! Emphasis is on interesting vegetable preparation, nicely plated and carefully prepared. The 3 course dinner meal was especially good, and they handled my nut allergy perfectly. Highly recommend.

A stunning vegan sanctuary/retreat! We were here on a Tuesday evening and treated to a beautiful three course tasting menu. Beware the offering changes depends on days of the week. Will definitely be back - worth a (long) detour/trip.

Absolutely amazing experience. The best vegan dining on our holiday. We had not had breakfast and then did not eat dinner after the generous portions of our three course meal. I could not fault it.

Superb breakfast - Edit
You can book for breakfast as a non resident. At the time of my visit (May 2022) the cost per person was £12.50. Choice of porridge, granola, nut/seed sprinkles, fresh fruit, yoghurt, scrambled tofu, fancy baked beans, toast, peanut butter, vego spread, biscoff spread, jam, fresh fruit juices and tea and coffee.

Michelin standard food - Edit
We have been wanting to stay here since it opened and used a trip to Abelour as a good 'excuse'. The hotel is lovely and individual and the staff were great..By chance, the tasting menu was being served on the evening we were there. The food was delicious and different. I would say at least equivalent to Gautier in Soho. There were five courses, each one delicious and 'large' enough so you felt you had a good taste of each one. All was beautifully presented. As a bonus, we were sat in the window and saw a pine marten scuttle past. Would highly recommend.

The food - oh my - Edit
Wow the food is bloody sensational. The tasting menu was delicious, there were ingredients I didn't normally like but they tasted amazing and I loved it all. The room I got I didn't love, but I'm basing this on food alone.

Wow! - Edit
We spent one night in the Lynx room and wow, it was a brilliant experience! The 5 course tasting menu was one of the best vegan meals I've ever had. It is an intimate restaurant, there were only 6 of us in the dining room that night which made it even more special. The bar has an excellent selection of cocktails, wines etc. It also has a good selection of non-alcoholic spirits. Would recommend spending some time drinking in front of the wood fire.
Read moreThe room itself was lovely- very clean, comfortable bed, and lovely toiletries. If we had any criticism at all it would be that the amenity tray needed something more than tea and coffee for the £200 we spent on the room (biscuits please!) It was also obvious that the bathrooms havent been done to the same standard as the rest of the hotel - they were nice enough, but didn't feel quite as luxurious. I imagine they'll be doing them up over the next few years.
Overall it felt worth the money for the experience! We will definitely be back for the food, if not to stay longer.

We stayed for my 50th birthday. The tasting menu for dinner was lovely.
Read moreThe room was quite nice but didn’t feel very luxurious . ( shower curtain was broken, no sugar in the room tray , quite cold ) This made it feel a bit over priced.
We were allowed to bring the dog which is great for us.

Food superb, rooms less so. - Edit
We stayed for 4 nights, eating dinner at the hotel on 3 of those. The different tasting menus each evening were superb. Some of the courses were the best I’ve ever had.
Read moreThe bar is cozy with a great selection of drinks.
The rooms are a little less impressive, certainly for the prices charged. Overall it’s comfortable but for £200 plus a night it should be flawless. Little things like lights not working, the strange glow of the neon blue hallway sign leaking under the room doorway illuminating the bedroom all night and confusing shower controls, turns out the levers were fitted in the wrong order!
I might consider staying again but really only for the food.

Good experience - Edit
Worth the trip for the food, maybe not so much the rooms. Well celebrated a birthday here and were so well looked after. The chef came around before and at the end of the meal. The rooms are smart but in a few details down at heel (we had lynx room and the shower sliding doors kept coming off their runner for example). Interesting village and lots of walks and countryside nearby. Loved meeting the hotel dogs. Great little snugs in the garden (but I wish they would weed out the himalayan balsam!)

Wonderful Experience - Edit
We spent two nights here as a family celebration for a 'big' birthday. Our room was the Capercaillie which was stylish, cosy and comfortable complete with a range of vegan friendly toileteries. A fridge on the landing contained plant milk and cold water (in glass not plastic). We had drinks in the bar before dinner each night and there was a huge choice! How lovely to not have to worry and check whether wines etc are vegan. Then, of course, we had the five course taster menu both nights and what a treat it was. The chef came out to see us at the start and end of the evening which was a lovely touch. Such care had gone into putting together the menu and preparing and presenting the food that we were truly impressed and loved it all. I have posted photos to show the menus and different food. Breakfast was also a treat. You have to complete a form the evening before making your requests. Highlights were the overnight oats and granola and the croissants. Finally, the dogs! We did not bring our dogs on holiday with us this time and we were missing them but the hotel has resident dogs that are a delight. Many places describe themselves as dog friendly but it is a joy to find a place that actually truly is. The dogs were a highlight! Thanks to the staff and chef for a great stay and also for providing the fantastic cake for my brother's birthday.

Fantastic stay at this hotel! Very excited to finally visit after waiting for covid restrictions to pass. Really really enjoyed my stay as it is elegant, classy and relaxing! The room was great, well decorated and very clean. Loved the little touches, like plant milk in the fridge nearby.
Read moreBreakfast was delicious and filling.
The only downside is the pricing for lunch and dinner is a bit much, £4 for a ramekin of kale slaw is a bit overpriced. The food is delicious but I would have had dinner there too if it wasn’t £55 a head, shame.
Other than that, I had a fantastic stay. I visit again!
Pros: All vegan, Very classy hotel , Very fastest food!!
Cons: Pricey, Portion sizes are too small for cost

Best Vegan Food in Scotland - Edit
This restaurant (attached to the Hotel) is the best dining menu I’ve tasted in Scotland. The five course set menu changes every night. They talk you through the menu, and have a special vegan wine to pair every night. Can’t recommend it enough.

Not worth the price - Edit
We left the table still hungry. I understand the philosophy of not preparing fake meat and stuff like that, but what about seitan or tofu? Furthermore, it’s all a matter of being lucky: we got a sad Japanese-like menu, but according other reviews here they made more interesting stuff in the past.

Wonderful vegan hotel with top class menu - Edit
Very chilled boutique hotel minutes stroll from Pitlochry town centre but feeling like it’s a world away. Everything is vegan and everything is tailored to your comfort and relaxation. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for and it is worth it! 5 course tasting menu is delicious and changes daily; all locally sourced and creative use of plants rather than typical burgers or mock meat. Beautiful baronial building with beautiful rooms, exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. The perfect place to relax, rewind and recharge and all without having to enquire ‘Is that vegan?’

Superb food - Edit
A wonderful culinary experience in a fully vegan hotel. Tasty, innovative & beautifully presented. Not offering communal dining at the moment because of Covid however this hasn’t detracted too much. Portions on the small side however 5 small courses is enough as long as you haven’t skipped lunch & been hiking all day. Although we were comfortable, I agree with other reviewers that the cost of rooms is on the high side. Especially the larger rooms. Having said that, it’s a small hotel that tries hard to please & there was lots to like. Very individual boutique hotel style decor. Plant milks conveniently placed in a fridge on the landing for in-room teas or coffees. Lovely grounds with unexpected hideaways. Enjoyable breakfast of soaked oats, chia seed pudding & home made beans on toast. I enjoyed our stay however next time might consider having dinner at the hotel and paying more to stay at a hotel with more facilities. Having said that, it’s been truly wonderful to stay at a fully vegan hotel & we have enjoyed it a lot.

Luxury vegan experience - Edit
We stayed for 2 nights here recently. The bed was probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the room was impeccably clean. We had the set menu dinner one night and it was very very good. 3 hours was a bit long, but I guess you can't rush perfection. The following night we had pizza so that the chef could get a day off, and that was also very good. Breakfast was fresh and filling. Staff were all really nice as well. I'd stay there again if I go back to Pitlochry :)

Lovely but expensive - Edit
My husband took me for dinner for my birthday - it's absolutely gorgeous, the building is lovely, and the chef says hello which is a really nice touch. The food was absolutely outstanding and I loved every course. The house red was also probably the nicest red wine I've ever tasted!! We sat down to eat at 7pm and were only finished at about 10.30pm - it's very lovely that it's a real experience, but be aware it is a full evening!! It's very, very expensive, but nice as a treat.

At more than £1000 for three nights stay with dinner, you’d expect miracles. - Edit
Sadly, although our room was comfortable and the food creative, we could only be disappointed and disillusioned at these cynical prices.
Read moreThe good:
The staff are lovely
You’ll eat innovative food (but see below)
The area is beautiful
The bad:
The friendly invitation to canapés before dinner is actually an invitation to half a mouthful of dehydrated cracker with topping and the chance to spend £10 on every drink.
The ‘five-course tasting menu’ is creative, flawed and slight. We were hungry after each meal.
Although the food is served beautifully (thanks in some cases to the recipes and photos in a cookbook we use at home), the flavours just aren’t always there. Smoky cabbage was bitter, boiled red cabbage. Hmmm.
If you’re desperate for a slice of bread served on a slice of log or five baby carrots pushed into a teeny mound of mashed potato, or a slab of warmed up rock with one arancino on top of it….then maybe try one night and eat elsewhere if you want to stay longer.
On the accommodation side, the place is full of carefully quirked eccentricities, but details such as the IKEA stuff, felt-tip pen scrawl on the key fob and sales area as soon on as you enter (as if they haven’t had enough of your money!) mean it’s by no means the luxury hotel you’d expect.
Pros: The area is gorgeous, Nice staff, Unusual food
Cons: Extortionate and poor value, Food that leaves you hungry, Overhyped and money-grabbing
