Terrible service

This is based on a visit from a while back, not recent, but I also just wanted to say that I agreed with some of the other people here. The service leaves a lot to be desired. Hardly any attention (maybe because we weren't Indian?). And when they took my money, they didn't bother bringing back the change. Yes, I would have given them a tip (although not much, given the lack of decent service), but I would like to be the one who decides how big a tip to give.
The food was ok, but it seemed strange to be given rice in a bowl like in Chinese restaurants. Will not be returning.

Cons: Terrible service, Lack of service, Tips are decided for you

Not good for vegans.

Good if you’re vegetarian, but had very little vegan options (all made with Ghee and couldn’t swap it out), and the few options that were labelled as Vegan weren’t always vegan. Eg. The butter paneer was labelled as vegan, I asked the waitress if this was actually vegan and she said yes, and when I asked what the paneer was made out of she said - cheese… Kailash Parabat around the corner has better options for vegans.

Pros: Good food for vegetarians

Cons: Bad for vegans

Idly and Dosa!

I love Indian food but idly and Dosa are right up there with my favourite foods in the world.
This is a great restaurant and very traditional.

Food good but service lacking

We went here several times during our trip to Hong Kong. The food overall was pretty tasty with lots of options, but unfortunately the service seemed to get worse with each visit.

Pros: Extensive menu

Cons: Poor Service , Sticky Tables

Delicious dosas

The dosas were greasier than I prefer, but everything was very authentic tasted good. You probably risk butter on many things if you're vegan, but if you're vegetarian then this place is great

Good food - terrible service

The food was excellent - we ate dosas, utappam, idlis, wadas, sambar, fresh orange juice, buttermilk, lassis - everything tasted good but the service was awful. Perhaps if you can overlook the terrible service, you could dine here for the really good South Indian food. Lots of veggie options.

Cons: terrible service

Amazing

The naan and the matar butter paneer was extraordinary. Quite loud in the evening, it seems to be a common meeting point for Indian families.

Sangeetha Vegetarian Restaurant, Hong Kong

As per what another reviewer has alluded to, I wonder if previous reviewers in good faith extolling the vegan virtues of this place mis-believe the word 'vegan' is interchangeable with 'vegetarian'? I've organised meetup events at Sangeetha specifically requesting all the food is made vegan (the food tasted great). I am though in no position to dispute the comments from other reviewers who state the a la carte menu is heavily dairy based.

good food

Liked the food at this place .. ordered paper dosa which was good .. liked chutney and sambhar .. had fresh pomegranate juice which was v nice but they added sugar so you need to mention if you don't want added sugar in the juice. Tried dal makhani which was good as well. Overall nice place .. extensive menu .. good helpful staff .. will definitely go again to try the other things.

No more buffet

I used to go to this place all the time, as the lunch buffet was quick, delicious and had lots of options. It's still a decent place to eat at a decent price. But the option to go here for a quick lunchtime vegetarian buffet is gone.

Pros: Accessible, Friendly, Value

Cons: No more lunch buffet.

Very tasty South Indian food

We visited in a large group (4 adults and 5 kids) and the staff were friendly, patient and accommodating. The food was delicious.

Delicious but not too vegan-friendly

All the reviews below calling this place vegan-friendly baffle me. I saw a lot of dishes with dairy on the menu, so I asked the staff what's vegan or could be made vegan. The first guy couldn't even understand the question and had to find help. Second guy was just about better than him. After checking with the kitchen, he singled out only a few dishes from the whole menu. I asked if they could make a non-dairy South Indian thali, which Saravana Bhavan would gladly oblige by replacing everything dairy with other vegan varieties, he gave me flat no.

In the end, I decided to go with some vada, a cauliflower masala dosa, an okra curry and some roti. They came out fast and were all very good. The dosa was exceptionally thin and crispy, probably the best I've tasted so far out of all the South Indian restaurants in HK. This alone is worth coming back for.

Pros: great food, fast service

Cons: few vegan options, language barrier

Better Choice for Vegans

In short, i liked the foods served in the restaurant without much disappointment in the traditional taste and style. With simple and enough food decorations and great taste, I can't say i'm not liking it.

Good Indian food, decent prices

Although a little hard to find on the second floor of the building, the food was good and the staff was friendly. The fresh juice choices were plentiful and mine was quite tasty. The ambience was a bit noisy and the decor pretty worn, but this is a good choice if you're in the neighborhood. My only negative comment would be that they were already sold out of several of my menu choices, even 90 minutes prior to closing.
