Decent cafe with a few vegan options - Edit
Several vegetarian options, some of which can be modified to be vegan.
Read moreOne breakfast option that is explicitly vegan. It was nice but fairly bland. I would’ve liked some seasoning instead of plain cooked veggies.
The grilled veg melt (minus cheese) I had for lunch a couple of days ago was better. I personally found the chutney a little sweet but that’s a matter of taste - at least there was flavour!
There’s a couple of vegan options in the bakery cabinet (including the Kiwi bakery classic, vegan Snickers Slice).
It seems there’s several vegan drink options but I only tried one of the smoothies.

Locals cafe - Edit
Very much the locals cafe, nice and busy. A good selection of vegetarian options with a few adjustments for vegan. Definitely recommend the grilled veg melt, the vegan brekkie could do with the same chutney and then it'd be awesome too

Pros: Popular , Options , Early opening
Cons: Should ask for chutney with vegan brekkie, Risk of missing a table, or having to sit outside , Vegan options are similar

Not bad, not great - Edit
If you're here, it's a decent place to get some food and some coffee. The food was not exactly imaginative, but it did the trick. Potatoes, mushies, tomatoes, hummus, and toast for the vegan brekkie

Nice stop for lunch - Edit
On the way back from the Milford Sound tour our bus stopped here and we were pleasantly impressed with this restaurant. Some good options on the menu with a great location and ambiance. I had the falafel salad with a hot chocolate and enjoyed them both. Hubby enjoyed his non-vegan burger, so great options for everyone.

One of the only places open early - Edit
Busy in the early morning as not much else open in te anau currently but still able to make a solid oat milk flat white quickly. Tried the vegan breakfast which was pretty standard but still yum

Two visits; two days - Edit
Had veg frittata today and super salad yesterday. The texture and flavor of the frittata was delicious! The salad was good and also might benefit from a tad more dressing. Perfect portions, excellent flat white, great staff, and charming space

Good selection, nice coffee - Edit
I ordered the Vegan Breakfast, and an almond milk Chai Latte.
Read moreIt was super busy, but the coffees came out fast, and the food not long after.
Portion size was okay, and food was very fresh. It was pretty basic for the money though.
They also have a couple of cabinet vegan slices.
Pros: A few vegan options, Friendly staff, Fresh food
Cons: A bit pricey for the basics

Decent vegan options - Edit
The vegan breakfast was pretty basic. Basically the vegetarian breakfast with the eggs taken off and hash browns replaced with seasoned potatoes(?). Served with hummus which as a bit bland and too small a portion for the breakfast.
Read moreSpecials of the day included the falafel burger and did look quite nice.
Coffee was great.
Pros: Labelled vegan options, Variety of plant milks available for coffee, Quick service

More glutenfree than vegan options - Edit
You can choose so many different flavours to latte in this place with soy, almond or coconut milk. It´s a pity that there is much more glutenfree options than vegan but our chocolate crumble was amazing. Also they offer some vegetarian/vegan meals in this place.

We went for a cuppa and some cake. There was a chocolate rice crispy slice and chocolate raspberry muffin. Small but tasty. Nice smoothie options and good hot chocolate.

Falafel Burger & Coffee - Edit
Had a nice Falafel burger and a coffee, the falafel burger was nice, it had vegan mayo and a berry compote with lettuce tomato and onion, the onion was done really well, all the ingredients were fresh and felt healthy to eat.
Read moreThe coffee wasn’t the greatest, asked for an extra shot to minimise the taste of Soy milk and have a strong taste of coffee, but unfortunately it was just a warm cup of soy milk with a splash of coffee.
Pros: 3 Vegan Options (Stir Fry, Salad, Falafel Burger), Cozy Atmosphere.
Cons: Borderline Expensive., Coffee with Soy Milk not the best., Main Meal has no sides.

great food - Edit
I did feel a little disheartened when I was told there was only one option as a main, however it was a super tasty falafel burger. I was so full after, however I did see a vegan peanut butter and chocolate rice crispy cake on the cake counter which I had to try and again.... absolutely amazing!

Good for coffee - Edit
This place has almond milk and good coffee. Not the best choice for food because they only offer one vegan option which changes daily. The day I went, they had vegan sushi. I wasn't impressed.

what a disappointment - Edit
Wanted to grab a dessert this afternoon just to find out that there's a wide range of desserts offered but not one single of them is vegan.
Read moreThen I asked if they could get me a vegan milk shake instead. Also that was not possible. The lady at the counter didn't care much that they didn't have anything I wished for to offer. What a disappointment.
Then I was told I should have a look at the menu, which I did. There's only one vegan special of the day. Today it was a salad for 15$.
Honestly - go somewhere else. I didn't feel very appreciated.
Right now I am sitting in the Naturally Fiordland Café, which is 3 minutes walking distance. And- I am enjoying a lovely vegan Apple Crumble! :)
