Fantastic vegan breakfast

Vegan breakfast was stunning, three small falafels and not the dry, boring ones, beans, tomato, mushrooms, hash browns and toast. Friendly, hardworking staff and a lovely setting.

Pros: Staff, Breakfast, Oat latte

Cons: Could be more generous with the falafel

Super friendly staff, bland food

Really helpful and nice staff, but the food was dry, bland and uninspired.

Pros: Clearly marked menu , Nice outside seating area , Super nice staff

Cons: Nothing really tasted of much :/

Coffee and cake

Only two options of vegan cake but absolutely delicious! Could do with more lunch and main vegan options, just by swapping to vegan cheese would give more choices. Disappointed we had to pay extra for alternative milk.

Pros: Cosy atmosphere , Lovely staff, Really tasty inspired vegan cake

Cons: Not enough hot & cold sandwich options, Only one vegan option on specials board (we think), Paying extra for alternative milk

Cosy

A cosy and welcoming cafe with lots of character and very tasty food.
We shared the vegan platter and some chips and it was yummy.
We sat in a warm and comfortable area inside with our dogs and loved the atmosphere and friendly staff.
There is a separate room for people without dogs and a sheltered courtyard.
Would definitely recommend.

Delightful dining

Second visit to Sander’s Yard bistro and it was a delight. Lovely courtyard location, attentive staff, great atmosphere, delicious food. I had the vegan platter, everything fresh and prepared with care. Loads of veggie options, about 5 vegan choices. Now my number one choice for Whitby.

Relaxed lunch

Enjoyed a vegan platter and beer here after walking from Robin Hoods Bay to Whitby (about 6/7 miles). Platter consisted of warm pitta, hummus, stuffed vine leaves, olives, roast veg, mushroom pate, chutney and salad. It was pretty tasty and sufficient for two although we ordered a second pitta. Cafe was a nice chilled environment, food and service good. Nice change from the offering of a bean burger!

Lovely food

This is one of the first and one of the best places I’ve been to try vegan food, I had a Spinach and Falafel burger served in a toasted bun with rocket, tomato chutney and fries. Service was pleasant and atmosphere was welcoming, I really enjoyed spending my time and money here and would definitely recommend it as I will be going back there to enjoy their food again. Their prices are fair and I didn’t feel like I was spending a lot.

Pros: Lots of delicious vegan food choices , Pleasant staff , Welcoming environment

Cons: Can be a bit crowded

Warm welcoming bistro

Whenever i am popping into Whitby for a day out i always make sure to come to Sanders Yard for some food and drinks. First impressions are always of the homely decorations that really create a warm welcoming atmosphere. The menu has a good range of options for vegans, they even do a vegan platter! Food service is quick and it also is of an exceptional quality.

Pros: Good vegan options, Warm welcoming atmosphere , Exceptional food

Cons: Somewhat expensive, Can get busy

Great vegan breakfast

I had the vegan breakfast which was really good. Hash browns, beans, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, falafel and toast. Great big portion and a real treat. Staff were lovely and really efficient. I would go again for the breakfast. We sat in the courtyard which is really sweet and would have gone back for an evening meal if they opened later in the day. It’s a shame they don’t. They could do with some more vegan options but if it’s a big breakfast you’re after I would recommend

Pros: Decent portion size, Nice staff, Good vegan breakfast

Lots of options

We had lunch here. There were many vegan options available. The only disappointment was that neither of the two soups were vegan. What we had was great. We had a vegan sharing platter and also shared a tasty sandwich. There were also 2 or 3 desert/cake options. Staff were very friendly.

Dissappointed

Went here as there was lots of vegan options on the menu. Went with my girlfriend and we got the vegan sharing platter between us. Would NOT recommend. It was nearly £15 for 3 tiny falafels, gone off hummus and soggy olives, mushy veg and a bit of stale salad. I’m sure some of the other vegan options were much better judging by the reviews on here, but do not get the sharing platter! Wouldn’t go back. Service also felt quite hostile and we felt uneasy.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Quick

Cons: Expensive , Horrible food

Good burger and vegan cake

Came here for lunch and had the spinach and falafel burger, which was good - more of a vegetable burger than a fake meat one, but that's good sometimes. Great chips.

Had the salted caramel chocolate cake for afters, which was delicious but super super sweet (and I have a sweet tooth). Only soya milk available for coffee, but it was nice.

Pros: More than one vegan cake, Good burger, Attractive place

Cons: Can be very busy

Pretty good

I went in search of a decent vegan breakfast, and was happy when they said they could provide a vegan ‘full English’. It was delicious! Staff and atmosphere/decor is lovely. They have some pretty good options for vegans, including mains and dessert. I will go again.

Cons: Vegan options are adapted from vegetarian

Off the beaten track

I've visited here a few times over the years and always love the location, as you can have a nice quiet break away from the busy streets. There are a few vegan options available but dessert options seem to have diminished since last time I visited so we just ordered a refreshing chocolate milkshake and Americano on this occasion.

Pros: Location , Friendly staff

Cons: More vegan options needed

Nice place for lunch

Limited vegan options but they're clearly labelled; the hummus sandwich was simple but tasty.

Spacious & pseudo Gourmet

A large cosy place set through an alleyway going towards the top end of Church street. A little bit dated inside with traditional decor and fittings but pleasant enough. There is also an outside seating area popular in the summer. My last memory of this place is a £3.95 baked beans baked potato which doesn't sit well but prior to that I had two good evening meals there which tried to be gourmet but were a good effort. There's a good vegetarian and decent vegan choice for around £10-£12 a main course, house wine is £10 a bottle plus side dishes available for extra charge. I do like this place, it's a bit pricey for what it is and there are now better places to eat in Whitby but I certainly would try it again.

Pros: price

Cons: dated
