Great vegan place in Cluj

A wonderfully varied and appetizing menu, with so many great options that is difficult to decide what to choose. The portions are big, which makes it even more difficult to sample as many dishes as possible but, if you want, you can always request the courses that you could not eat to go (which we did, given the fact that we ordered 3 courses and could barely eat 2). The food was really tasty, seemed fresh and just perfectly done and the service was excellent. A bit more on the pricy side, yet totally worth it. A piece of advise: pay attention to the desserts, most of them have honey in the ingredients list, although they are marked as vegan and i could only find 2 options with agave syrup instead of honey but they were excellent nonetheless.

Pros: Wonderfully prepared food, Big portions, Great service

Cons: A bit on the expensive side, Uses honey in the desserts

They have everything!

I ate at Samara twice in the last few days when visiting Cluj. The first thing that struck me was their extremely extensive menu. They have everything: Pizza (vegetarian, vegan, raw), paste (vegetarian, vegan, raw), all kinds of bowls, raw burrito and dips, Romanian dishes with paprika and eggplant - so much stuff that I would even recommend trimming the menu a little bit. I had a vegan pizza one day, and a raw burrito the other day. The pizza was ok, an interesting variation (no tomato sauce, but a spinach sauce). The raw burrito came in a raw wrap with a nut paste inside and was really good. On both days I had a raw cake for dessert, thoroughly enjoyable both times, even if on the first day it was a bit frozen on the inside (but then, I had considered getting an ice cream in the first place...).
Nice atmosphere. Seems popular for couples and dates.

Pros: Incredible variety, Good food, Nice location

Perfection

Their menu is unbeliavable with its beautiful pictures of each meal and the variety of choice! It was really hard to decide what to take but we had some creamy pasta and a quinoa sweet potato salad which were delicious. We also had a choco-mint cake for dessert and it was fantastic! My sea buckthorn lemonade was one of the best one I've ever had, too. Staff was really helpful and professional, true 5 star experience!

Really good!

I went there twice with a friend a couple of weeks ago, and honestly we could travel back to Cluj just to get there again. It was difficult to choose the courses because everything looked delicious (and it came up they also were!). Finally we took vegetarian gazpacho, lasagna, pizza and some sushi selections. Especially the gazpacho and lasagna were amazing and sushis creatively made and tasty. Highly recommended!

Great Place!

Have many vegan options that are clearly marked, but all the desserts (mostly raw cakes) that are marked as vegan have honey in them.
What I ordered was very good (blueberry shake and green burger).
Prices are reasonable (although considered high relative to Romania)

Pros: Many vegan options, Menus in English and very clear, Beautiful place

Cons: Marks dishes with honey as vegan, A little pricey

Lots of options (including some traditional dishes). I had vegan mushroom soup and mango and tofu sushi. My boyfriend and sour soup and creamy pasta (also all vegan). It was delicious and I can't wait to go back and try more!

Pros: lots of choice, tasty, healthy

Samsara Cluj

I love this place. They have such a great atmosphere, amazing music and the staff is so friendly.Summer or winter, the place is one of my favorites in Cluj :)

Food wise, you have to choose something you like, make sure you ask the waiter about your dish..the soups are yummy, salads as well, the guacamole is the best in town...and it is not expensive given the costs of healthy eating.

Good and bad

I`ve served allot of meals at Samsara, and I had mixed experiences. Sometimes the food was delicious sometimes it was borderline uneatable.
Not very consistent cook.

Pro - very nice staff,
- a good variety of raw, vegan and vegetarian dishes.
- interesting receipes.
- sooperfoods drinks :)

Cons - not all dishes have a good taste,
- the ingredients they use are not bio/ organic or best quality. I believe they shop in supermakets.
- they don`t fully understand how to prepare raw dishes
- very high prices compared to quality of ingredients

I recomend it, but ask the staff for best dishes ;)

It depends on what you order

I ate here three times. The first time I got lentil soup, sushi and a pineapple, orange drink with ginger. The soup was good. The sushi was very disappointing. They didn't have chopsticks and gave me a fork to eat it with. The sushi on the menu was listed as having avocado, and there was no avocado. The sushi was mostly rice and a sliver of carrot, cucumber and some red pepper. I couldn't eat it with a fork, so I had to use my fingers which was awkward. I feel they should have let me know when I ordered they didn't have the ingredients to make the sushi and suggested I choose something else. I originally asked for orange juice but the waiter suggested the orange, pineapple and ginger drink. When I got it, it appeared not to have any pineapple. The waiter also should have informed me there was no pineapple after going to the kitchen. The raw chocolate cake appeared to be frozen and a part of it had broken off, so they placed another chocolate thing underneath it which I also didn't like.

Despite this I decided to try it again for lunch. When I arrived, I noticed the employees eating the vegetable curry with rice, so I also asked for that. It was good. I again got the orange, pineapple and ginger drink, and that time it had orange and pineapple but no ginger.

For my third time I had the eggplant parmesan. It was much too heavy and oddly enough came with slices of bread without any spread of anything for the bread. I didn't like the dish and again my orange, pineapple drink with ginger had no pineapple. After that I decided not to try it anymore.

Although the menu is extensive; they may not have some ingredients in stock. Also some of the dishes from looking at what other people were eating look sort of the same such as the rice dishes are basically the same. I would recommend the rice dishes as that seems to be their specialty. I also suggest they inform customers if they don't have the ingredients in stock rather than presenting customers with dishes where it is obvious important ingredients are missing.

I found prices to be quite high as Cluj Napoca is a less expensive city than Bucharest yet my food was more expensive than any of the vegetarian restaurants in Bucharest. They also unfortunately do not have lunch specials. The photos on their website also do not resemble the food in the restaurant which is disappointing. On the bright side the design of the restaurant was nice.

Pros: nice design

Cons: expensive, important ingredients might be missing, raw desserts might be frozen
