A lot of vegan options - Edit
Very cozy restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere. We were two people and shared a plate with vegan options. Overall there are several vegan options which are labelled. They also serve a small variety of vegan desserts. We enjoyed the food. The dessert was our highlight.

A real treasure - Edit
I had a wonderful meal here, incl. Oh my goat for starter. It was a wintry Tuesday night, so not too busy. Charming, unfussy atmosphere. Overall I was very pleased with the quality and presentation of the meal. When I visit Mainz again this will be top of my list of places to eat. Good location, on a quiet street only about ten minutes on foot from the main station. Highly recommended.

Nice place but food lacks flavour - Edit
I really wanted to love this. It's such a nice little place with wonderful staff. The dishes sound great, but the taste is a bit boring and flat. I will however go back again some time to see if maybe this was a bad day, but I suspect that they would need to rethink their use of spices (or lack of)

Good place - Edit
Now, to be honest, I was not sure about the food, but it was maybe my fault. The placr and the people are great. We had a bowl and a risotto, both of which was fine, even though the risotto was somewhat unspecific. The dessert - vegan mousse au chocolat - was not very "moussey", but fairly solid, so I'd try something else next time. I see the potential, many other things (like the Flammkuchen) looked really good, but our selections were maybe not the best choices - but far from the worst.

Fermentation - Edit
Besides some meals with cheese everything is vegan here. I liked how health oriented they are, very little oil used, brownie sweetened by sweet potato instead bunch of sugar, fermented products, and they are even educating you in their menus about omega 3s to 6s ratio and why tempeh is good for your gut. I've had my first flammkuchen in life which was amazing and a spinach handmade gnocchi which were maybe a bit too salty in the end. However their amaziang brownie as a desert balanced it and it is a must try if you will visit the restaurant.

They didn’t have a menu in English, but the guy working was so nice and completely fluent. He explained all the menu to me (in English) and recommended his favorite bowl (it was amazing).

Yummm - Edit
The dishes reflected the time and effort that had been put into designing them. The way they used tempeh was very inspired. My wife and I have tried the Robin Food and the Oriental Express. They were both spectacular with very well composed flavours. The James Browney dessert is a must to try too!

Delicious food but small portions - Edit
Salute is a vegetarian restaurant with many vegan options. They offer homemade and healthy food, basically something for everyone with soups, salads, pasta, grilled veggies, risotto, Flammkuchen, dishes with tempeh… The food is very good but the portions are rather small. On the plus side, this always allows to have one of their yummy desserts, but on the other hand, it can get expensive. Staff is very nice. You have to try their kumara brownie!

Empfehlenswert !!! - Edit

Total rip off.... will rate 1 star if I can - Edit
We left the restaurant paying over 30 euros for mediocre food (and still hungry).
Read moreWe ordered the Seitan in red wine champion sauce and Lasagna. The food was brought to us about 5-6 mins after our order. So we guess it is ready made and not cooked to order.
The Seitan dish consists of 20 odd cubes of homemade Seitan. It has a weird consistency... I suppose it wants to imitate the texture of "meat fat" but turns out the being something like a chewed up version of meat and fat mixed together.... There are not enough potatoes to mix with the sauce to at least stuff yourself full. The petersille is not even attempted to be finely chopped. Very small portion ( one can see it from the pic uploaded).
The Lasagna was OK but the portion was so small.... I wonder if it really worths 12.80 euros.
Also had a salad from salad bar. Paid about 6.50 euros for 3 small bite size wraps and spoonfuls of food.
It was such a disappointment ... We read the good reviews but it doesn't live up to our expectation at all.
Waiter also forgot our order for drinks (which I could understand as food already arrived 5-6 mins after the order... Quite uncommon in German restaurants). By that time we had no desire to enjoy our drinks or order dessert anyways and just left with huge disappointment....
Maybe other dishes say flammkuchen or burger are nice but the main dishes we had was so bad.... And be prepared for the steep price.

Tasty, healthy, fresh! - Edit
If you are looking for some healthy vegan food in Mainz you should go to Salute Salate! They offer food for all kinds of dietary requirements (gluten free, allergies, macrobiotic etc.) and always have some tasty options. Even their burgers have very little fat, this is no fast food at all. (The same is true for their pasta or fried gnocci with soy and veggie bolognese and their vegan Flammkuchen - french pizza-like dishes with a creamy white sauce instead of tomato sauce.)
Read moreThey always have some salads on offer which you pay for by weight. They are always fresh, inventive and very flavorful. In addition, they have a daily changing vegan dish and a weekly changing vegan soup. Finally, their desserts are divine: We had a vegan tiramisu and agreed that it was the best we ever had.
For those of you who are looking for something more fancy: On Fridays, you can get a 3-course menu plus side salad for 22 EUR.
Pros: Lots of vegan choices, actually healthy food, very friendly staff

Delightful option in Mainz - Edit
Mainz already has some useful vegetarian options, but all-veg options are thin on the ground and not great. We stumbled on Salute Salate by accident, and were delighted with what we found.
Read moreThe food is tasty, prepared thoughtfully, and served elegantly. It's a really pleasant restaurant.
Additionally, it's not too far from the train station or the middle of town, therefore serving both travelers and tourists. I really enjoyed it and hope it sticks around for a long time!

Veggie buffet - Edit
Quite good, interesting restaurant concept. I went there to try out and it came out that it´s an a open buffet and you pay for what you eat by weight. Price is very reasonable. They also have have daily made hot food and some international specialities, but everything is still veggie.
