Large, popular Gujurati Indian food restaurant. Location is near other veggie places and stores selling Asian vegetarian grocery. Open Mon-Fri 12:00-21:30, Sat-Sun 09:00-22:00.
They are a vegetarian restaurant that offer a few vegan options. Their chilli paneer is amazing and comes in a vegan option. Would higher recommend ordering the masala tea as well
The menu has vegan options noted and the server made a note that we were vegan. Chilli tofu is amazing - if you can handle spicy - and the tofu itself is really creamy. The patra was pretty good and not oily at all but it needed mustard seeds. The dal kachori didn't seem oily even though it's deep fried and was very tasty. The bhel puri and khichi were also very good, although the khichi was a little spicier than I expected. Good value.
I think the decor has been updated since some of these reviews, it looks modern.
Pretty good Indian restaurant with lots of choices. Not expensive but this is reflected in the quality of food. Some of the desserts seem pre-made and just warmed up in the microwave.
I've visited Sakonis in Wembley over 10 to 15 years.
Over that time little has changed except for the prices marginally increasing and the introduction of a buffet which initially was competitive but now seems dated and limited.
When sakonis first started it had little competition and was the best.
Today we compare it to others and their harrow branch.
The buffet menu: a range of items under a hot plate. Range is better than most restaurants but less than their harrow branch. Gives access to a range of dishes but price not competitive if there is a group of 5 and you share dishes.
items dry out a little under hot plate.
The set menu: much better than the buffet but to sample more of the menu recommend sharing amongst group of 4 or more. can specify level of heat.
service is sometimes very slow but when they can started everything can come at once.
Food can be oversalted, unfortunately you do not notice immediately but spend the night drinking water!
Perfect for breakfast.......and at other times - Edit
One of my favorite places to have breakfast when I am in London.
Cheap & yummy.
Very, very "Indian".
"Strange" decor - Sakonis is tiled throughout with bathroom / shower tiles.
Often packed to bursting - with happy locals / shift workers from Heathrow really enjoying the food.
It is the closest thing to an authentic U.P. roadside "Dhaba" in London.
Now a few of someone elses words -
By chloe at restaurantspy.com
"......Populated as it is already with sari, jewellery and Indian grocery stores, Ealing Road is packed with locals who pop into Sakoni's for their spicy masala dosas, burning hot chai and crispy bhajiyas.
If you don't mind being packed into a corner in a clinical and sometimes dirty interior, its well worth it for the food. In fact, sometimes, it adds to the authentic Indian experience."
