Lovely vegan restaurant with an amazing lunch set - Edit
I have been to many vegan restaurants during my stay in Kyoto and I think this one was surely one of the best ones. I always came for lunch (so don't know about their dinner set up) but the lunch sets are absolutely amazing. Not only do they look pretty, they are also delicious. The sets come with soup and salad, and as a main you can choose from three options (if I remember correctly). I always took the mixed plate and it never dissappointed. The dessert plate was also really nice.

Best meal in Kyoto - Edit
Hands down the best meal I had in Kyoto. 8 course pre set chefs choice meal, which was very filling. Reservations are required for dinner. I saw them turn people away who were trying to come eat without a reservation. They take it seriously! Very sweet older couple running the place, very limited English speaking so make sure to reserve online. I also heard multiple phone calls where the owner had to say they didn’t understand English to the caller.

Nice vegan food - Edit
Really nice food, very friendly owners. Were also able to accommodate gluten-free when reserved this way a few days prior. Little bit on the pricier side, but not high-end as described

Not child friendly - turned us away coz we had toddler - Edit
We were told that children can only order lunch set or dinner set.
Read moreWhen we said we would order lunch set, they said it will take an hour to prepare.
Seriously an hour? In a restaurant?
Just say you don’t want kids directly on your restaurant board!!
Please see Google reviews and you will see other people with kids experience the same thing
Horrible!!

Pros: None!
Cons: They do not allow kids
plantpowergirl
Thank you, there website is very clear about not wanting kids unless they can order a set meal and sit and wait quietly for it.

Great place (not high-end though) - Edit
This place is a 100% recommendation. It's not a high-end restaurant as claimed in the description though. Nevertheless the very wonderful owners create a really nice dinner experience.

Vegan lunch and dinner near Gojo-Karasuma-dori - Edit
Restaurant Effe serves a lunch set meal with a French twist; our set had vegan leek quiche, cauliflower gratin, beet& potato soup, carrot -walnut salad, rice, etc. Other lunch options are spelt spaghetti and veggie curry.
Read moreThe dessert plate and coffee we ordered after were delicious: banana cake, mango ice cream and coconut flan.
The service is friendly and efficient. There is an English menu. Reservations are required for dinner but we made them for lunch anyway. It’s a small place that filled up quickly.
There are fruit drinks, teas, wine and cocktail on the menu too, included French favorites like kir.
Pros: Tasty food, Fantastic dessert platter, Easy to find

Worth the effort to visit. - Edit
After looking at reviews we decided to come here for lunch. It looked like reservations are required (pretty sure that's just for dinners now though) so we managed to get that sorted with a phone call. Really glad we came! Tasty food, lovely owner and great chef. Prices and portion sizes were good too, mostly. The cheeseboard only really comes with little wedges of cheeses, so don't be expecting the Western or European style of cheeseboard with crackers or breads and fruit or pastes etc.

Pros: Great food (tasty soy/mushroom bolognese!!), Great service, despite language barrier, Nice, cosy atmosphere

Most Delicious Vegan Food in Kyoto - Edit
We had dinner tonight (I’d suggest to book a table via their website, although you might be lucky to get a seat when you visit spontaneously) and had the chef’s selection menu (4.500 yen per person without drinks). It was a five dishes menu and had a fantastic taste - everything was vegan and had a pure taste. I could taste so many different flavors I could not identify so it was always a surprise on the plate.
Read moreThe chef and the waitress (husband and wife probably?) speak very little English but are super friendly, polite and helpful. You can also buy vegan cheese for taking it home with you. I would always come back and highly recommend to eat here!😉
Pros: Calm and nice atmosphere , Superbe taste and flavors, Friendly and polite staff

Delicious food prepared by a very kind couple. Attentive service, cozy small place (we booked and when we arrived they weren't accepting walk-ins, so i suggest you to do the same).

Impeccable Flavors - Edit
This was hands down one of the most delicious meals I’ve had in Kyoto. The pasta lunch course was amazingly flavorful and felt very reinvented against any pasta I’ve every had. And if you have space order the dessert plate, you won’t regret it.

Best Vegan Multi Course Meal - Edit
This was the best vegan food experience I've EVER had! And I call it an experience because that's exactly what it was.
Read moreThe meal was a Trust the Chef multi course style, with five courses plus dessert. Each dish was delicious and presented beautifully - you could tell a lot of thought and love has gone into each one.
The restaurant is run by a lovely older couple who used to specialise in gluten free and vegan pasta meals, but have since branched out to do more. Their name F (effe) is Italian for the letter F.
The restaurant is small with only a few tables, so booking ahead is essential. It is on the more expensive side, but 100% worth it, especially for special occasions!
Our course of the day included:
Starter: beetroot and apple tartare
Entrée: plate of handmade vegan cheeses, quiche, potato gratin, avocado salad
Soup: kikuimo (Jerusalem artichoke)
Pasta: spelt flour spaghetti
Main: chickpea and lentils hamburger patty, soy meat karaage, roast veges
Dessert: banana cake, coconut milk panna cotta, strawberry gelato and fruit
All were DELICIOUS!!

SO DELICIOUS - Edit
The staff don’t speak English but were so kind as to use google translate to explain to me what one of the sides was. I believe they did have an English menu though. Each side dish was absolutely delicious in its own way. I haven’t had anything like it since! A must try - just make sure you go at least 45 mins before closing! They close after lunch/before dinner

Must try!! - Edit
It’s such a lovely restaurant. The vibes are great, it’s small and intimate; the food is wonderful, so many good choices! I got the beef stroganoff for my main dish, and all dishes come with six side dishes as well as soup and salad. Everything was delicious. They also make their own cheese and I just loved everything about this place. Please come here! It’s owned by the most adorable elderly couple.

No idea why this place isn’t reviewed, yet. I was in Kyoto for 3 days and ate at different places. This was definitely the best!! I had a special Christmas dinner on the 24th. It was about 4000 Yen and worth every Penny.
