Serves meat, vegan options available. Located in the Tanasbourne district. Menu has vegetarian pho, vegetarian spring rolls, sauteed tofu sandwich, wok of green beans and tofu. Open Mon-Sat 11:00am-9:00pm.
The coconut summer rolls are an addiction of mine. I get them once a month or so. The vegetarian pho is vegan and it is yummy and will last for 2 meals for me, but it is pretty salty, like all pho. In the pho, you can swap the fried tofu for fresh to make it lower in fat. There are a couple other vegan options, like tofu noodle and rice dishes. There is one with a pineapple teriyaki that is pretty good. You can also get a Thai iced tea with coconut milk instead of cream.
I ordered the salad rolls there. They are large and plenty for a lunch. Unfortunately, mine actually had a rubber band in it. I gave it to the waiter, telling him I found it in my salad roll. I figured I should at least get my money back, but no. After I had eaten the rest of it, he asked me if I wanted them to remake it but no, no money back. I thought that was a poor way to do business.
You won't find a chef at Bambuza. An extraordinary name let down by possibly the most over-simplified, uncreative food I have seen in a long time. After being stared-down by the cooks, my vegetarian soup was about 4 slices of raw tofu in a half gallon container filled to the top with salt water. I was given a side of plain white bean sprouts. Everything immediately went to the trash. A total kitchen nightmare.
As Veg-Friendly as the Typical Asian Eatery - Edit
The food was delicious, but they use oyster sauce in a lot of their dishes and have no substitute, so only two dishes (eggplant and green beans with tofu, plus a few appetizers) are vegan. The staff has no clue what vegan is, thought oyster sauce was ok because it is just a sauce.
It is always a real delight to dine at Bambuza, where there are a number of vegetarian/vegan items on the menu. My favorite is vegetarian (vegan) pho, and the vegetarian (vegan) salad rolls are scrumptuous, too. Friendly, clean atmosphere is also a plus. Great Vietnames vegan food!
