My go-to food market! love the community vibe. Amazing selection!

Sai is my go to for most of my food. I love this place. I prefer shopping here than large chain supermarkets to avoid the crowds, as well as, the smell and sight of meat. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly too! They also give a gift for purchases over $20.

Pros: Lots of vegan options., Lots of organic options. , Very knowledgeable and kind staff members.

Vegetarian Market, So Much Bulk!

Very well-run and clean market with a wonderful vegan selection. The best, unique part to me is the bulk section: 70-plus bulk items! They really have just about anything you could want to buy in bulk. No bulk nutritional yeast or pasta, but every other dry bulk item I can imagine wanting is here.

They don’t sell meat (wow), and again, everything is just kept so tidy and organized. They seem quite serious about cleanliness... one time I spilled some coffee on the floor here and 3 ladies rushed over looking very concerned and promptly mitigated the problem. Anyway, the whole shop reflects this sensibility. Nothing is out of place or dingy.

They even have to-go prepared food items, most of which are vegan. The only one I’ve noticed that’s not is a vegetarian turkey sandwich. They have a vegan version, too, along with tofu; hummus; tempeh salad; and baked tofu sandwiches (others may rotate in). They’ve got vegan baked goods. I tried the brownie and am not a fan at all... it may have been undercooked the day I got it. Muffins are good, not amazing but tasty enough. Cupcakes and cookies are very good. They also have cheesecake, blondies, cake slices. These are all grab and go, so a great quick option. There’s self-serve soup with 2-3 vegan ones per day if you have a couple extra minutes. Also self-serve coffee.

There’s supposedly smoothies & juices, but I’ve never seen anyone by that station making them. I guess you have to ask.

Other than that, it’s a fully stocked health food market. Packaged items; vitamins, personal care and teas; refrigerator with lots of vegan cheeses & nut milks; freezer with Gardein, other proteins, microwave meals and all the vegan nice creams. Great produce, always fresh, and my fav organic fair trade bananas from Ecuador. Even a mile away, it’s worth the walk.

Pros: Vegan grab-and-go, Vast bulk selection, All vegetarian & mostly organic

Great quick and healthy options

Great little store with a selection of fresh produce, bulk items, and tons of vegetarian and vegan dry goods, frozen, and refrigerated foods. I prefer this store to the Green Bay down the street due to the vegan options and lower prices. They always have 2 hot vegan soups to go, as well as veg cookies, muffins, salads and sandwiches at the counter for around 2-6 dollars. If you spend 20 dollars you get a treat. You can choose a non dairy ice cream bar or wheatgrass shot.

Pros: inexpensive, vegan options, ready to eat meals to go

Cons: hours, small store

Great neighborhood health food store

When I lived in Astoria I shopped here every week. They have a great selection for such a small space, including a deli case with to-go options for a quick breakfast or lunch. Almost everything in the store is vegetarian, and ingredients are clearly labeled. They give you a freebie if you spend over $20. Conveniently located right next to the train station. I miss this place!

Pros: mostly vegetarian (no meat for sale), great selection, kind staff
