The Break Fast & Not So Furious

Serenaded by the wistful sounds of an oud, drinking in the encroaching nights sky while sat upon a terrace beneath the soft glow of tasteful amber lighting - this was far removed from the usual breakfast experience. Of course, this was an Iftar. Utterly ashamedly - given my longevity in the country- my first. Eager to get an as-authentic-experience as possible, this location fit the bill perfectly, nestled as it is amongst the winding backstreets of Al Seef village.
Having waited (very) patiently for the last strains of day, I took my cue and broke my fast with the traditional dates and nuts that were laid on the table. Once these were suitably inhaled, I dove headlong into the surprisingly varied spread, and was more than impressed with what I found. From the delicate, yet satisfying lentil soup, through to the more substantial and wonderfully fragrant machboos, freshness and consistent excellence was evident throughout all that had. To this end, there was nothing that truly stood-out as spectacular, but that was of no great concern and certainly didn’t diminish my enjoyment of the occasion.
Simply due to the ambience, I would happily return here, though the food is also well worth the repeat journey.
