Vegan Pastries galore

Great selection of vegan pastries, plus vegan breakfast and ice cream options. The baker uses vegan dough for everything, so anything that doesn’t have cheese or meat in the name is in play for vegans. Very tasty!

Pros: Seating indoor and outside, Many vegan pastry options

Cons: Not inexpensive

Had high hopes

I had been looking forward to trying this place out for a while. When I came here there was only one vegan option, the vegan bake empanada. It was not great. Maybe it just wasn't fresh but it was very very dry. Inside it had chickpeas, potatoes , and pumpkin... Which in theory should be good. Just seems like it needed some sauce or something.

Would not recommend it for vegans or anyone honestly

I came here looking for breakfast options & came with high hopes seeing that the bakery has 4 stars and decent reviews.
Reading the other reviews it mentioned that all pastry items without meat & cheese are vegan. Before ordering I asked if any pastries are vegan we were told no they all have an egg wash on top.

They only labeled vegan options where the vegan empanada & vegan breakfast plate on the menu.
The vegan empanada tasted as if it had no seasoning not even salt or pepper. Just consisted of Sweet potatoes & garbanzos. I would give the empanada a 1/10

As far as the Vegan Breakfast it was slightly better then the empanada. The vegan scramble also had no seasoning. On the menu It mentions that it will come with vegan bacon or sausage but it came with neither instead It came with plantains.

Service was also terrible. People behind the counter made me assume it was their 1 day.

I will never come here again! Even if it was my last options.

Cons: Lack of options , Lack flavor , Lack of customer service

More vegan-friendly than you think

When I walked into Ruthy’s, I was skeptical. The empanada was labeled vegan, but nothing else was. I asked the guy at the counter and he came back with the owner, Ruthy. She advertised a full vegan breakfast which included Italian sausage (field roast?) and just egg. When I asked about the pastelitos, she assured me that everything that didn’t have meat or cheese was vegan. I got the vegan empanada and the apple pastelito.

I loved the flavorful empanada and the huge, sweet, and flakey pastelito. Ruthy came by to ask how I was enjoying everything and we got into a conversation about how she started serving vegan options. While she isn’t vegan herself, her daughter is and insisted Ruthy’s bakery be a place that doesn’t just serve rabbit food (vegetables & sides.) She taught Ruthy how to cook/bake vegan and gave a few other tips like insisting that the vegan empanadas have garbanzo beans for protein.

If I had any recommendations, it would be to add more vegan empanadas (e.g. black bean, tofu, plant-based meat) and label all vegan-friendly items with a “v” so that customers don’t have to ask about each individual item (the dark chocolate pastelito without the marshmallows is vegan, btw.) Otherwise, I think Ruthy goes above and beyond by not only serving vegan options but making vegan cakes on request and never using her fryer for meats.

Pros: Lots of vegan pastelitos, Inexpensive, Friendly staff
