Serves meat, vegan options available. Roy's Waikiki on Oahu is part of an upscale Asian-Hawaiian fusion restaurant and bar chain. Has separate vegetarian menu where the dishes change seasonally. Includes a couple of vegan options, such as tofu steak and vegetable rolls.

Decent meal in the middle of the resort area - Edit
We ordered a couple dishes a la carte instead of doing the full tasting. It was quite expensive. The food was alright and the portions were fairly generous. Not tons of dine in options right near the main resort strip in Waikiki so was happy to find Roy's.

Upscale - Edit
True to other reviews, they do have a separate vegan menu and there was, during my visit at least, an appetizer on the regular menu that is vegan friendly, the fried zucchini. The fried zucchini was delicious and probably the tastiest thing.
Read moreThe vegan menu is a preset menu with 3 courses. My first course was a sushi roll that was fantastic. It came with 5 hefty pieces of sushi. The main course was Omni pork meatballs on top of rice also with onion karaage. This was a massive portion as well. I was very surprised by the portion size as preset menu portions are typically small. Last was dessert which was a lime coconut cheesecake.
All in all, this is an upscale restaurant so it is pricey but food and customer service were top notch.

Vegan set menu - Edit
Set menu for vegans. Starter was melon which isn't very exciting but the waiter recommended an item on the main menu which was vegan. This was crispy zucchini and it was very tasty. There was no additional cost to switch to this. The main was ravioli which was delicious but could have done with a bit bigger portion. The dessert was amazing! One of the best I've had.

Top tier service and tasty vegan options - Edit
This Roy’s restaurant has a custom vegan menu that the chef changes seasonally. They get so many vegan requests they decided to add this menu.
Read moreThey start with edamame as a free appetizer.
You can order any of the options a la carte instead of a 3 course meal.
I recommend the bao bun , sushi, ravioli (similar to dumplings).
Also dessert options we got sorbet to keep it light.

Several decent vegan options - Edit
There were a few menu items to choose from and easily identifiable with knowledgeable staff. The compressed watermelon tacos were very tasty but no replacement for aioli was offered, and quite heavy on the plain rice. The vegan mushroom sushi had delicious mushroom tartare on the top that was really well balanced, but the sushi filling was quite acidic/vinegary for my taste. Cocktails were flawless! A good option if you are travelling with omnis and want some menu options, but I wouldn’t go out of my way as I found there were better local options for vegans

AMAZING!! - Edit
The review would be 5-star is the app allowed it (can only give 5-star to vegan/vegetarian restaurants). This was seriously one of the best meals of my life. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They have a vegan menu - 3 course tasting menu, plus additional options off the regular menu that can be made vegan. I would highly recommend doing the 3 course tasting menu. For the quality of food I would say the price is reasonable.

3 course vegan dinner - Edit
The best dinner I had in Oahu! Make sure to tell your server you would like the vegan menu as they don’t bring it out unless asked. Our server was very kind and starred every menu item that was vegan or that could be modified vegan. I would highly recommend the 3 course meal! So so good, I would give 5 stars if possible

Best meal of my life - Edit
Ok beezie. You’re like “wtf why is it so hard to find good vegan food nearby.” Honestly, same. I’m like why isn’t it easier? Most of the tiki bars only offer a pasta. BUT FEAR NOT. Mother freaking ROYS!!! We came here for an admittedly special occasion (6th anniversary!!) but I had literally the best meal of my life. It was so good. I never get to have prix fixe options. $50 later and I’ve had an amazing app (some zucchini thing) and literally the best meal of my life. We’re still waiting on the dessert but I’m so enthusiastic I want to write the review NOW!!!
Read moreSeriously, it’s not every day faire, but if you have something special, COME HERE!!! They also have a few vegan/vegetarian items you can order à la carte if you just want one or two items. But seriously, get the vegan prix fixe, seriously it was so good.

Delicious unique 3-course vegan meal - Edit
They took the time and care to set a separate 3-course vegan menu, reasonably priced (for this quality of food) at $50. Appetizer: crisp zucchini bao buns, Main: coriander-pesto potstickers in a black garlic purée, and for dessert a mango float. Divine!

Great meal, there aren’t many vegan options to choose from but the few choices are really yummy! Also, there are a few appetizers that are not on the vegan menu that are vegan as well such as the ravioli!

Roy’s - Edit
I have eaten at Roy’s a few times while in Hawaii. I ate at this specific location on my birthday a few years ago and remember it being a very nice experience. Although, in the last couple years the vegan options have really been expanding in Hawaii, so I’m more likely to try other places over Roy’s. That said, this is a nice option if you’d like to have a fancier meal and want to dress up a little.

Food: ~very~ limited menu. You get one choice for entree, appetizer, and dessert. App was okay, entree excellent, dessert= incredible
Read moreAtmosphere: Outside seating is horrendous, indoor is lovely
Service: very slow
Overall, our experience was pretty subpar for all the rage of the restaurant. We waited over an hour for our main food and our server was barely present, multiple times my family members waited with empty glasses for about 20min just to get something else to drink. We also ended up spending 2 hours total there purely due to our food being so slow to come out. I did appreciate them taking the drinks off the bill to make up for it.
Do NOT sit outside especially at night. The streets had a potent city stink to them, a grotesque mixture of garbage and sewage In addition, we were put in a corner with a lot of traffic that made it difficult to sit back and relax with the normal bustling of a restaurant.
I was pleasantly surprised with how good our food was, we got it at a price of $45 for the 3 course meal which was impressive. Hopefully, future experiences will be better.

There’s always a vegan pre-fixe menu available but the regular menu had a handful of vegan options. My omnivore friend enjoyed the vegan dishes.

Would love to give this 5 stars! - Edit
What a wonderful night we had at Roy’s! Not only was the vegan food AMAZING - but the service was also the best we have had in Hawaii. They were so accomodating and knew exactly what was vegan and what wasn’t. My partner had the vegan 3 course meal (he loved all of it) that included tacos as an entree, a potato and veg dish as a main and a peanut butter french toast dessert! I got the zucchini bao buns as an entree and the tofu and mushroom hot pot as a main, with sorbet for dessert! We truly felt like they went above and beyond and left feeling very happy and content! Will definitely come back next time we are in Waikiki.

A must add to your vegan bucket list! - Edit
Hubby recently surprised me with a fine dining vegan three course dining experience at this restaurant during our first trip to Hawaii. The staff was friendly and upon arriving, we were quickly seated.
Read moreOur dining experience began with a warm welcome from our waiter Ryley who gave us a bowl of edamame beans tossed in a sauce. Shortly thereafter, the edamame, we the received the local mushroom stack which was flavorful and earthy. The wonton chips served the mushroom stack was the perfect addition to the dish.
The main entree was the kung pao crispy eggplant with was served on a bed of cauliflower quinoa "fried rice" and was as beautiful to look at as it was to eat. Dessert was peanut butter & jelly stuffed french toast which was served with a scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream was the perfect was to end such a sumptuous meal.
This dining experience was top notch, the service was fabulous and I really felt valued as a customer when the owner of the restaurant stopped by our table to ask how our dining experience went. I expressed to her how grateful I was for having this vegan three course dining experience available and she replied that she was happy about this. I also appreciated that both she and our waiter Ryley pointed out other vegan options on their regular menu to try the next time we visit the Honolulu restaurant.
Although the meal is a bit pricey at $45/per person, if you're vegan, it's definitely well worth a visit to check off your vegan bucket list!
Pros: Fine fining vegan experience
Cons: Would love more vegan options on regular menu

Would give 5 stars if I could - Edit
This might hands down be the best vegan meal I’ve ever had. I came here with my fiancé on our last night in Honolulu after reading all the great reviews and we were not disappointed. I had the zucchini buns for an appetizer and they were excellent along with the tofu main entree and it was delicious! My fiancé had the vegan 3 course meal and we split the desert which was a peanut butter french toast and it was top notch. Highly recommend. The staff was so nice and friendly and extremely efficient. They have a few other locations in the mainland so definitely check it out!

Be careful- not all Roys are same - Edit
Being a chain, we figured the Roys in Honolulu (near Hawaii Kai) would be the same as the one listed here- but this one had no prix fixe menu or vegan menu. They had only a vegetarian menu and we had to ask a lot of questions about what was actually vegan to a server who was less than thrilled to help us. The tomato based Pasta we ended up getting didn’t have much flavor AT ALL. For the price tag this place disappointed- especially since we expected an upscale vegan dinner. Maybe Waikiki is different- just call the exact location you are going to first.

They have a vegan pre fixed menu. We decided to try the zucchini buns( I forget the name but it was amazing), the my were tempura batterd and delicious! Also the beet salad. Sizzling tofu with asparagus and mushrooms. And the had a special entree also. They are very vegan friendly/conscious. Great service too. Just a reminder definitely try the zucchini buns. They’ll blow your mind! Lol

vegan food far too salty. - Edit
I ate from the vegan menu and my partner had omni food. Both our meals were far too salty and we almost couldn't eat them. Should have sent them back. Very disappointing. There was also no style about the food and the ingredients weren't what you would expect in a chef -cooked vegan meal. The ambience was very noise=y and busy. Not nice ambiance. I do not recommend this place at all.

An experience and great vegan meal in one - Edit
If you want a luxurious vegan meal with environment and service to match you will find it here. They have a little secret, their vegan menu. Everything is perfectly made with great taste. You will leave satisfied but not overly full and with the memory of a great meal. Their entree is with tofu (so if you are soy sensitive won't work) and I would recommend the vegan rolls not on the vegan men to go with you meal. Not cheap but worth it.

Best Find in Waikiki - Edit
Challenged to find a restaurant in the hotel area of Waikiki, we searched HappyCow and decided to give Roy's a try. The food was fantastic and the service was to match. The staff is very helpful and can provide details of each meal choice. Roy's was also one of the few places we could actually have a conversation while dining as the background noise was low compared to most other restaurants in the area. I could not give them a higher recommendation. I like the choices as I am vegan but other meal choices are available for those in our party who are not.
