Fabulous find in Tenjin - Edit
I came here as my first dining experience in Japan. I don’t speak Japanese but the woman was immensely friendly and helpful and spoke English well. The food was even more amazing! The brown rice was some of the best I’ve ever had and the vegetables were super fresh. Not to mention the matcha gelato was definitely made from a high quality matcha (for any enthusiasts out there) though it was a bit icy. I personally loved it and left feeling full but not weighed down so this place is a definite must for vegans!

Business hours are wrong - Edit
Be warned the business hours are wrong and the hours on their website aren’t quite clear either. Went at 4:30 as it was advertised that they closed at 6:00 that day but they weren’t serving food so just managed to get a hot drink. I believe they serve food between 11:00 and 4:00 on weekdays and up to 7:00 on Friday and Saturday but probably worth checking in advance if you’re making a special trip over there!

Food not always available - Edit
Kitchen opens and closes at unpredictable times which are not published, so please be careful before making a long walk and arriving hungry. We came here three times after checking their website and managed to negotiate a burger on one occasion, but otherwise were disappointed.

Very nice and taste really good! - Edit
Quiet, clean and cozy in the middle of busy area. We visited there twice within our 5 days’ trip. We tried curry, burger, set lunch, tofu cheese cake, chocolate cake and the fruit tart. They all tasted very good. We will definitely come when we travel to Fukuoka.

I had vegetable hashed soy meat with rice. The portion size was a little small so maybe order in larfe size if you are hungry! The sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste but not bad!

Surprise finding Vegan Cafe in Tenjin! - Edit
I was shopping around, and was pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant in the middle of Tenjin. They had a good variety of dishes, a pleasant ambiance, and a shop downstairs. It was also super healthy(non GMO, no sugar, all organic etc.) tbh I just needed it to be vegan, but all that's a plus haha. I had a seitan burger and it was very nice & juicy, came with some pickles - 7/10. And I also had a cheesecake which was very tasty, but not sweet enough for my sweettooth, still a good 6/10. But given how healthy & eco-friendly the whole restaurant was, and the extremely convenient location the I'd give the place 8/10. If you're ever shopping around Tenjin, vegan or non, you should definitely give this place a try. The only downside is that it's open only during lunch times, but apparently from August it will be open at night as well!

I just went here again recently with my meat-eating Japanese friend. He very much enjoyed the food and said that it definitely changed his view of vegan food, which was wonderful to here. I had hayashi(hashed beef) rice, where the fake meat was wonderfully close to the taste & texture of beef -- lovely for people with any cravings -- while my friend had an plate with rice, veggies and a tasty hamburg -- again tasting very lovely compared to meat burgers. I also noticed the shop selling various vegan or health products on the first floor, I look forward to buying some things from there.

bons burger - Edit

Rota Cafe, Fukuoka, Japan - Edit
I stumbled upon this macrobiotic restaurant today and was THRILLED after having to decline eating with friends because I couldn't even find the simplest vegetarian options on most menus! (I even asked for "noodles cooked in plain water" and was not accommodated.)
Read moreThe food at Rota Cafe was tasty and light. I had a pureed sweet potato soup with a small green salad, a roll with salted olive oil for dipping, and some kind of barley flake crusted tofu (?) savory morsel. This was 700 JPY ($6.25). The service was sweet and efficient, as it is in all Japanese restaurants.
I LOVE restaurants where I can eat everything on the menu and not have to "worry".
Will definitely go back!

Vegan Cafe in Tenjin!! - Edit
I've been waiting for an all-vegan restaurant to open in Tenjin! Even though it's one of the most popular shopping / food areas in Fukuoka, there were no macrobiotic or vegan restaurants after the original Evah Dining restaurant closed.
Read moreRota Cafe is a very basic Japanese macrobiotic cafe. They sell some vegan products on the 1st floor, and you can eat outside on the deck or at the tables on the 2nd floor. It's stylish and clean, and there're many seats and one separate private room.
I visited them at 3pm, and was still was able to get lunch. All food looks delicious and it really was!
I ordered the Korean bibimbap and also dessert set. (+300yen). You can choose dessert on the menu, and the chessecake I ordered was mild and tasty. The price is moderate, and I'm pleased with what I got for the cost (1100yen for lunch and dessert).
You can also take out desserts such as cakes, muffins, puddings etc, and also their veg hamburger.
There was no English menu but you can easily find out what it's like from photos.
I'm sure I'll go back to this cafe when I'm in Tenjin!!
Pros: good value, easy to access, comfortable space
Cons: limited menu
