Epic vegan selection - Edit
If you stopped after the all vegan bakery and prepared goods that would be enough for 5 stars but wait there is more! So many vegan products I’ve never seen before from prosciutto from Italy to artisanal cheeses matured in a VEGAN CHEESE CAVE. To everything in between. Has other non vegan options as well but really seems to prioritize a plant based lifestyle. I wish this was our local grocery!

It's always a pleasure. - Edit
Most times that I visit this market, I find something new that I love! Some notable favorites have been the vegan chik'n curry wrap, the boodah butter lip balm, the Yi Shi Taro Bubble Tea oatmeal, bulk dried organic elderberries for making syrup at home, and so many more it's hard to name them all! They also carry the Single Origin vegan in-honey that was really hard to find in my experience. I also love their bakery section and the produce is always perfect. 🤍🌱

Love this place - Edit
They are just a little pricey. I expect to pay a little more given how small it is but they host a lot of great events in the area, so they’ll always have my heart.

Hot Bar! - Edit
It’s always nice going into a store and knowing you can eat EVERYTHING! I didn’t spend too long in here since I was just waiting on my order at Great Sage to get done, but I did pick up the bbq chicken, quesadilla, and garlic collard greens from the hot bar. They’re all great choices! I recommend putting the bbq chicken inside of the quesadilla (-:

They could do so much better - Edit
Their produce seems to have been sitting for weeks at a time. There were moldy lemons and limes. Moldy peppers. Almost no garlic or onions were available. If you are looking for fresh produce, you might have to look elsewhere. The old lady who works in the holistic health departments never smiles or says hello.
Read morePros: Some staff smile and say hello
Cons: Some staff frown as if you insulted them., Food is old and moldy.

Best Market Ever! - Edit
Seriously the best v-friendly market I've ever been to... This place does everything right; actually so much better than right... Amazing assortment of quality and hard-to-find products, clean, organized and well-stocked, terrific customer service, delicious prepared foods bar, and it's not a huge space but laid-out perfect... Their social media and community outreach are really great, so many product and/or veg(etari)an events, they even do an annual Clarksville Vegan Fest... It'd be phenomenal if they didn't sell animal products too, of course, but this is the type of business that I feel good spending my money at

The best veg store in town - Edit
The best veg store I know actually! They have so many specific items, a large tea selection, a delicious hot bar, premade vegan meals, specialized catering for holidays, vegan baked goods (made in house), fair priced produced, fair trade and organic items, and a large array of vitamins and Heath/wellness products.
Read moreThey also aim to be very sustainable, especially being a part of the “conscious corner” in Clarksville. They have bulk items that you can put in eco-friendly or your own containers, they have bag vouchers that you can use or give to charity. Staff is friendly and the store is clean.
Pros: Environmentally friendly, In house made food, So many vegan options
Cons: Still serve meat/dairy/honey/eggs

Vegan Heaven - Edit
Roots is a cut above the rest in my opinion. They are truly a vegan shoppers paradise! I love that everything they make is completely vegan, and they also carry a lot of vegan favorites too. The hot bar and salad bar are completely vegan and divine as well. And to top it off the employees I encountered were very nice and helpful! I can't wait to go back and shop again SOON! 💚

I was in the area for an appointment and looked up Happy Cow restaurants. Headed to Great Sage to try, but didn't look closely at the hours (closed Mondays).
Read moreLuckily, the Roots Market was next door and I saw on this app there was a hot bar. Yeah!!
Had to remind myself to only go to the hot/cold bar and I wasn't there to shop (still left with B12 vitamins and a pint of blueberries).
I had a spoonful of almost every hot bar item (all vegan and $1 off on Mondays), a spoonful of a couple cold bar salads, and a cup of pea soup for later.
All vegan cold bar items (curry "chicken" salad, eggless egg salad, chickpea salad, coleslaw, and artichokes) were delicious. The vegan hot bar items were okay. I'm trying to like jackfruit, but still not a fan. The best hot bar item was the garlic mushrooms and onions. I did try a little of my curry pea soup...very flavorful!! Can't wait to have the rest later.
Great store! Wish I had one close to my house!

Awesome - Edit
Never a disappointing visit to Roots! So many vegan options including raw, gluten free, local, organic products. Love all the little samples they offer on weekends. Their to-go items are DELICIOUS! Of course the prices are higher than usual. They also have the smallest amount of meat I've seen sold at a grocery store.

Lovely market with in-house vegan baking - Edit
This local, independently-owned market is such a refresher from the large, retail-chain supermarkets. The selection of organic produce is wonderful, and the prices are very good! The store is well-stocked with anything one might desire, from high quality sea salts to bath and body products! It's also very inviting with so many sampling stations throughout the store! Don't forget to bring your own bag(s)! However, because it is rather isolated from much of the hullabaloo of the nearby metropolitan areas, it might be best to plan an outing to Roots if in the area (i.e. on the 95 corridor?), which could include the nearby restaurant, Great Sage.

Ok, so I have to add that this place is even more amazing than in 2008. Now, Roots Market has its own in-house vegan and gluten-free baking… including cupcakes (carrot, cookies & cream, chocolate, lemon blueberry, raspberry, pumpkin, almond, pistachio, mocha, chocolate peanut butter), cookies (peanut butter chocolate, chocolate chip, sugar, oatmeal raisin), cookie bars (brownies, pecan, apple, blueberry) and quick breads (pumpkin bread) with vegan gluten-free options, too!!! They have cakes, too! This place is even better by the year!!
The prices for some of their items can't be beat, and they let you know it with shelf tags. They also have "clearance" stuff in the back of day-old baked goods and some other discontinued/ past "due date" items.
Go here, I love it! One problem: I always buy more than expected...
Pros: Produce, Vegan baking!, Samples
Cons: Far drive

great food 4 vegans - Edit
I found roots on happycow. My mom took my 2 that area 2 look at apartments because I am moving somewhere in that area. We shopped at roots then had a great dinner at the great sage. Everything is organic: u know it is good 4 u and it tastes great. I never 8 organic b4 and I thought organic stuff would taste bad. I was very wrong. It is a lot easier 2 eat vegan with products made with daiya "cheese" in it I especially love tofurky "cheese" pizza made with daiya vegan cheese. (All the vegan cheeses except daiya taste really bad) Now I absolutely have 2 live in walking distance or have public transportation 2 conscious corner from my apartment. Luckily I haven't picked out an apartment yet. The problem is there are no apartments (that I know of) in walking distance or have public transportation that is in walking distance 2 roots. I can't drive. Please contact me by adding a comment 2 my happycow page if u can help me.

Great Store - Edit
This store has a great selection of foods for vegetarians, vegans, and organic eaters. It definitely has the best selection of the famous vegetarian lines of foods, like Amy's, Silk, Annie's, etc. The prices are fabulous overall, though some items I still choose to buy at the grocery store due to lower cost there. Roots tends to have good sales at times, and I love their clearance items (the discontinued and expired stuff, which I have not had any problems with). I also appreciate their fresh packed food, such as eggless tofu or soy chicken salad. I highly recommend Roots.
