Delicious Food/Great Service - Edit
Went here for my 21st birthday and the food was delicious! I had the wings as an appetizer and the po-boy for my entree. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend this place! Also the rosé cider I had to drink was very smooth. My mom (an omni) even raves about how good the food was! It’s hard to find bars that serve any vegan food other than french fries, let alone finding a bar that is completely vegan! This place is a gem. The restaurant is in a cute area to walk around.

I've had more awful dining experiences at Root than not, unfortunately, but the few times it's been good I've had the pleasure of enjoying some of the best vegan food of my life. Definitely stay farrrr away from the Big Mic at all costs. It's absolutely dreadful.

Best Vegan Place - Edit
This is my favorite restaurant since I've gone vegan. It's fully vegan with a rotating menu. They have a bunch of good vegan beer. They have awesome regular selections like the wings. They generally always have some kind of vegan sandwich with fries plus a few different creative takes on normally non-vegan dishes. I'd recommend giving it a shot whether you're vegan or not.

Awesome selection - Edit
As a gluten free vegan, I was delighted by the enchilada dip with nachos. The cauliflower chorizo tacos were very good as well. The music was just the right volume and the space was open, attractive and very clean. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We’ll definitely return.

Glad it’s here, but underwhelmed. - Edit
The quality of the dishes did not meet what I was expecting based on the ambiance and menu descriptions. Glad the place exists though. We had sweet chili wings (the highlight), tacos, and the po boy.

So so - Edit
Think I went on an off day right before they changed seasonal menus, so that influenced my experience. They were out of many things: we would order and the server would come back several times saying they're out. They should have known up front before we ordered what the kitchen was out of.I ordered a calzone and paid full price, but half of the ingredients listed in the menu description we're not in the dish. Food, service and overall experience fell flat. Would give it another chance if I'm there again though.

Has gone downhill - Edit
Previously this restaurant was a favorite. I'm changing that.
Read moreHad the special "Greek Tacos". I asked the waitress if they were soft shell corn tortillas and she said, YES. They came out and were white wheat. Again I asked for soft shell corn tortillas and they came out on hard shells.
I can't eat crunchy things. Besides, they were stale, had 2 mushrooms on each which tasted like vinegar one with a very large piece of onion. Not at all appetizing. The waitress was very loud and tried to argue with me. Another waitress took tacos away but didn't ask if I wanted to order anything else until she gave us the check.
Started w/ side salad and the carrots were the sizes of hockey pucks and the onion was so large that it overtook the delicate greens. The salad dressing was good but $5 for a small side salad that didn't match up with the price was disappointing.
The portions vs. price had always been an issue but for a Vegan place, I paid the price up until now.
So sad because this was one of my favorite restaurants in Lancaster being a Vegan.
Pros: Vegan
Cons: poor service, poor quality of food, small portions

This is a nice small bar / restaurant with great vegan cooking. They make everything they can in-house (including the seitan), have fantastic hot wings, and a creative owner who aims to please. Staff is friendly, informative, and attentive.

Vegan place in Lancaster!! - Edit
We were so pleasantly surprised to see an all-vegan spot in Lancaster?! PA is really stepping up its game!
Read moreAbsolutely love the space. Airy, spacious, beautiful exposed brick, clean bathrooms, good location near the downtown shopping area. Also, the food is VERY reasonably priced! Yay!
Food was mostly great, here is what we had.
Chorizo stuffed poblanos - a little disappointed by these, sauce was great, the poblanos seemed to be roasted as opposed to fried, which is fine in theory, but they were a little hard to cut through. It was difficult to eat as an appetizer, the filling was not remarkable. Definitely not bad, but not that good.
Chef's salad - I gave my hubby side eye for ordering a salad but it was truly incredible so I ate my words. Not sure how they made their homemade cheeze but it was great, mild, creamy, nice chew. Delicious tofu, beautiful fresh avocado, great crunch from the sunflower seeds, and of course, their vegan ranch style dressing was AMAZING! Yum, we essentially licked the plate.
Stuffed portobello - Didn't try this, allergic to mushrooms, but hubby said he enjoyed it. I had a nibble of the mashed potatoes and Brussels, both were seasoned nicely, both were a little more greasy than I'd prefer and the Brussels sprouts were a little on the soft side texture wise.
Beet burger - the patty was kind of comically small compared to the bun but it tasted good. I loved the apple and cabbage slaw on this with a hint of ginger. It needed a little more sauce. The fries were beautiful but a little greasy and undersalted for my preference.
We both agreed, we'd definitely eat here again! I'd love to try the pizzas, I saw another table getting one and it looked so good. A couple of the things we got weren't total hits but overall this place was very good, I'd be excited to try more things! Love that they do their own homemade cheese etc too.

Good comfort food - Edit
I come to York PA about once a year on business and there's not many options for a Vegan in this area. Until I found Root, which is worth the drive to historic Lancaster. It is more on the side of good comfort food, and would not make the WSLF guidelines. With that said, I'm ok with this because their creativeness keeps me coming back for more each visit. I pretty much eat here every night I'm in town. This trip I went 3 nights in a row and was able to try something new. They change the menu about every 8 weeks. They can be slow if busy, but it's worth the wait since they make everything on site. I find the prices typical but if you're outside of a metro area it may feel too expensive. To spend $25 on an appetizer and entree is not unfathomable to me. Atmosphere is easy going. No one cares who you are and what you look like. It's all good!

Nothing that will blow you away (unless you come from an area lacking tons of vegan options) but still good enough to enjoy. Best option around if passing by.

Fantastic food - Edit
Managed to convince my girlfriend’s mom and her fiancé to come and now they are stopping by themselves once in a while despite the fiancé being a stereotypical steak and potatoes guy, emphasis on steak. When I first visited Lancaster, I ate there every single night of the week. They had decent daily special that was delicious and allowed me to try different things that they offered. I love their ‘suicide’ hot sauce on the seitan wings and would ask for it on pizzas and other dishes, heh.

Root Vegan - Edit
The food was good for the most part (the potato tofu curry was too plain according to my sister). I had an eggplant pesto dish that tasted wonderful. The only bad news was that my sister, who is gluten free, could not have many of the options on the menu because even the gluten free options had things in there that she could not have (like tomatoes and cauliflower). Also they were a little understaffed on the waiting staff so the service was a little slow. However, it was nonetheless still a good restaurant, my mom, who is allergic to dairy, loved it especially.

Just okay - Edit
Apps: potato nachos & medium wings. Nachos were so bland and disappointing. Wings were a bit better; they were medium but still had a bit of kick. Asked for a side of ranch but it wasn't very good. The seitan was very dense, would have been nice to see a more tender texture. It's not a buffalo sauce, btw.
Read moreMain course: wife got a salad which she barely touched. I got the KFC bowl, which was pretty good. The "gravy" was very thin but had a nice flavor. It also came with a side of cauliflower, which was way too much food but also had me questioning whether the mash was potato or cauliflower because the aroma was so strong and it was pretty chunky.
Service was okay. They brought me the wrong wine but fixed it quickly. There is apparently a full bar but they don't tell you and I didn't notice because it was behind me. (There was not even a mention like, "the draft list is on the board behind you", even though we mentioned that it was our first visit. This is mostly notable because there is a placard on the table for wine & bottled beer.) Had to ask twice for ranch. There is a jukebox, and when it is on it is obnoxiously loud. There were no desserts.
