Robertson's - Edit
Its nice to see a chip shop with several vegan options. It was very clean, and the food was cooked to order.
Read moreThe menu was a bit confusing, as there were two different vegan menus with different options.
I was a bit let down by the battered sausages, they were sausages actually made from vegetables rather than meat substitute and I think they would've been nicer if they were soy meat or something like that.
Pros: Several vegan options, Food cooked to order
Cons: Battered sausages weren't very nice, Confusing vegan menu

Love chip shop chippies - Edit
Great food for everyone. I’m vegan, but other people in my family aren’t. This was a great place to cater for all. I got chips, pea fritter (was amazing!) and onion rings.

Great chippy - Edit
Not many chippies in Whitby do a vegan offer that isn’t a re-heated falafel burger. We’re an omni family with a vegan so robertson’s is great as it caters for everyone. Chips are proper chip shop chips as well, very yummy.
Read moreJust be aware of opening times. Everything shuts a little earlier than we were expecting for peak season and robertsons isn’t open Mondays or Tuesdays, which caught us out early part of our holiday.

Nice vegan food - Edit
I had the pea fritter, battered onion rings, chips and curry sauce. All of which were very nice, although burned my tongue on the peas 😬 my own fault!
Read moreThe only downsides are they don't only offer vegan food and their waiting room is outside on narrow, busy street (when Whitby is busy). I'm being a bit harsh, but it is what it is.
Pros: Nice vegan food, Very nice onion rings and curry sauce, Cool staff
Cons: Very small, awkward customer area

Robertsons Chippy - Edit
Chip shop offering a vegan menu and cooking vegan food to order in a separate fryer in veg oil. I had the mushy pea fritter and chips, both were nice but would be great to see tofish/banana blossom on offer. Most other chip shops in this area cook in non vegan fat though so it is great they are providing some options for vegans here.

Fab and tasty vegan menu - vegan fish addition please - Edit
So excited to see a full vegan menu in the window! Husband and I got a few different vegan things to try - battered veg sausages, battered pea fritter and veg nuggets - along with two portions of chips. First off, the chips were FAB. Just really fresh and not greasy. Same with the batter - plus very spiky so lots of crispy bits. And the homemade garlic mayo OMG droolworthy and so garlicky. For the mains, I loved the sausage (which I think is homemade) but husband said it was nice but nothing too special. Pea fritter was tasty and different, if a bit stodgy. Nuggets were nice too. I’d like an option that is a bit more “fish”y/meaty in texture if that makes sense - maybe tofish, or mushroom scallops or something with a different less mushy texture. We still loved the choice and we’ll be back.

Delicious mushy pea fritter, the chips and gravy were divine too and the tartar sauce was lush as well- we were told all their sauces are now made vegan which is great! Full dedicated vegan menu and fast friendly service!

Veg oil - Edit
Veg sausage was a bit soggy, not very crispy but that could’ve been the box. Decent chips but really nice garlic mayo and curry sauce. Just nice to be able to get something in Whitby and more than just chips too! Nice and efficient staff too.

Best Vegan Chippy in Whitby - Edit
Having lived in Whitby, but now a frequent visitor and lover of a chip shop, I’ve tried ‘em all in Whitby. The legendary Magpie is great but it’s overpriced for what you get and everything is fried in dripping.
Read moreOn my most recent visit I went to Chips Away - Robertson’s Chip Shop - the green one over the bridge and on the left (see image). Part take away and part restaurant it caters for all and when I say all, I mean all … it’s got a gluten free menu and a vegan menu (see image). Being vegans, it was a nice surprise to find out they have a dedicated deep fat fryer for vegan options - the food was great and the portions were huge. Ask for scraps too, big ones here. I’d give it 5 stars if I could.

Good options - Edit
They cook the chips and vegan items in a separate fryer. Very good chips and gravy. The pea fritter was decent. The veggie sausage is basically mash with veggies- not a meat substitute style sausage.

Pleasantly surprised to find this place! - Edit
We saw a big sign in the window with their gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. They fry in vegetable oil so you can just pop in to order. Battered sausage, nuggets and burgers, with chips, curry sauce and mushy peas as well! We had the sausage which is made out of vegetables (rather than being a meat substitute) it was pretty good! The curry sauce was awesome.

Separate vegan menu and everything is cooked on veg oil. I was excited to try a pea fritters but it was just battered mushy peas so I wasn’t a fan. Their veggie sausages were the smushed vegetable type but had a nice herby flavour.
