Lovely all plant based restaurant - Edit
Great cafe/restaurant in a nice village on the outskirts of Norwich. The menu is now all plant based and gluten free, and aiming to be entirely locally sourced. Really nice selection of dishes, and unusual ingredients.

Humdrum food - Edit
Food was disappointing, eg tinned tomatoes and none of the promised pickles in the loaded wedges starter. Almost no protein in anything. The dessert was better, maybe 4 stars. And the service was great, to be fair.

Perfect for a late Mother’s Day celebration - Edit
So nice to walk into a restaurant with so many vegan options. Appreciate that it didn’t just offer meat substitutes but rather serious creative cooking with vegetables. Portion sizes are generous thus good value. We walked from Norwich and although not the prettiest walk, but definitely worth it. Would highly recommend.

Bright attractive restaurant with a creative menu - Edit
The sign of a confident restaurant is an open kitchen. And this place has every reason to be confident. It is bright and airy, well furnished and comfortable . The menu is interesting and varied with very easy parking outside. It's a little way outside Norwich but well worth the trip and certainly as good as any other vegetarian restaurants in the city .

Mouldy food - Edit
Happy cow won’t allow for a one star review, but it should be one star.I had a main and a desert.
Read moreThe main was a chana masala special, I had the gluten free option which just didn’t include the bread but didn’t see any reduction in price, it was nice but felt like something you could easily make at home for about £2 using a pot of spices from Tesco.
The desert which was just a bowl of fruit which I requested was at nice first and then I realised it was anything but fresh and some of the raspberries actually had mould on them ( as pictured ).
All the staff seemed very young and a little arrogant and ignorant. I witnessed several meals get mistaken and blasé attitudes towards Gluten free.
Also, it seems that if two people order the same dish and one orders a gluten free option then both will come out being gluten free options, this seems profoundly lazy and really not good enough.
It’s a shame this was my experience as other reviews seem good. I personally wouldn’t go back.
Pros: Good vegan selection , Lots of windows/natural light
Cons: Staff are arrogant and ignorant , Pricy for the quality

Hi Ghast, Sorry your fruit bowl was not up to scratch, if you had mentioned it to our very friendly young staff, we would have changed it. Most of our menu items are gluten free as standard, we have gluten free fryers, gluten free flours and separate chopping boards etcetera. Some people still ask for the gluten free 'option' without realising that the dish is entirely gluten free in the first place, as with the ladies you were paying attention to. People like to eat at River Green rather than staying at home to make it themselves, on the whole they find the food and the service very good. Perhaps you would prefer your own company rather than bothering those around you, if you want to stay at home with your tesco ingredients, then we won't have to make you a special dessert, because you turned your nose up at all the choices on our menu.

Vegan Sunday lunch! - Edit
Trowse is a pretty village on the outskirts of Norwich and the River Green Cafe is a lovely spot for Sunday lunch before or after a walk around the nearby Whitlingham Country Park. The vegan Sunday lunch included nut roast, a choice of potatoes (roasted, boiled, wedges, dauphinoise), veg and a vegan Yorkshire pudding. Lots of other vegan options on the menu and they had a specials board too. I was pretty full after the main but just managed a vegan espresso affogato for dessert. Delicious.
Read moreThe staff were friendly but service was a little slow as they were busy.
Pros: Lots of choice for vegans, Large portions, Light and airy space

Lovely situation overlooking park - Edit
I decided to visit in the evening as not many veggie cafes open at night. It was quite busy which was good to see. Good specials board. I enjoyed my food but the dessert was a dark chocolate, orange and ginger torte. I couldn't taste any ginger and it was so rich that I had to leave half, which was a shame.
Read moreThe evening buses back from Trowse are only every two hours so we walked back into the city. It took 35 minutes and was quite hilly. I would advise timing your meal to catch the bus! At present that is 6.55 and 8.55.
Pros: Lovely setting, Nice atmosphere, Good food but not cheap
Cons: Public transport not good

Bright, modern take on vegetarian dining - Edit
The River Green Café is a dependable veggie favourite of ours in Norwich. It's most notable for being a bright, clean and airy place - quite unlike the depressingly common 'organic' aesthetic of most vegetarian eateries. The restaurant overlooks Trowse green, with a couple of outside tables which are gorgeous on a sunny day.
Read moreThe menu is broad, and servings are similarly large. I rarely have the appetite for more than the 'starter' size of the salads, for instance.
Personal favourites include the roasted halloumi salad (on the fine dining menu) and the mushroom/mozarella/sun-dried tomato burger (on the daytime 'easy eating' menu).
The only downside for us, as residents of Norwich, is the suburban location. It's just slightly too far to walk from the city centre. There's some free parking on surrounding streets (do not park in the pub car park) and Anglian Bus routes 87 (Norwich/Poringland) and 88 (Norwich/Bungay/Halesworth/Southwold) stop outside.
Pros: Bright, modern, clean dining room, Large portion sizes, Attentive staff
Cons: Suburban: hefty walk from city centre

Top qualify vegetarian restaurant - Edit
It is worth going out of your way to visit this place, which is as good as any vegetarian place we've ever found in the UK. It's in a lovely, peaceful spot in the middle of the village of Trowse, on the outskirts of Norwich; right by a large village green equipped with all sorts of attractions for younger children (including an extraordinary audio guide to traditional games they might try to play!). It's a lovely airy, roomy restaurant with nice, bright, modern decor and a relaxing atmosphere. Most importantly of all, however, is that it has an extensive and imaginative, all-vegetarian menu with plenty of vegan options. What a lovely change from the norm that the biggest challenge was to decide what to pick. We went for two meals from the specials board - I had a warming mixed bean and pasta stew with garlic bread, my wife had pasta shells stuffed with a very tasty mushroom and hazelnut filling, served with two different kinds of bread. Also plenty of sweet options - I had summer pudding with ice cream with a raspberry sauce; Julie had chocolate torte with fresh raspberries and blueberries and a raspberry coulis and cream! We desperately wanted to lick the plates! They have a loyalty card which we hope to make use of. Our only worry is whether enough people will support it. Although very close to Norwich and even closer to Whittlingham Country Park, all but Trowse residents would have to make a special effort to get there as the village is effectively on a dead-end road. Which means they'd have to know it was there in the first place. So spread the word!

Superb!!! - Edit
Found out that this little gem of a place had opened up purely by accident and boy am I glad I did.
Read moreThe location is great 5 mins drive out of the city(I have always loved Trowse, such a pretty village).
The building looks as attractive outside as it does inside, Wonderful relaxing decor.
There were three of us in the party, two Vegans and an omni
. I had the lental and cider pate which was great, My partner had the olives to start and these were in a fantastic dressing, Our omni friend opted for the goats cheese bruschetta and said it was great.
Mains were perfect portions, We had the river green burger, thai yellow curry and the mushroom wellington, all must have been delicious the plates were almost licked clean!!!
Deserts out of this world, the vegan dark chocolate and raspberry torte was out of this world. Our omni friend chose the brownies.
All dishes were presented beautifully and as I said before
the portions were more than ample.
All in all great value incredibly tasty food Served in great surrounding by wonderful staff.
Expect to pay around £20-25 per head with coffees(more if you have several drinks).
Well done river green cafe, I wish you all the best with your venture and WILL be visiting you again
Pros: Beautiful food, ovely location, Proper vegan dishes
Cons: Not just around the corner!!

Great to have a new Norfolk veggie eatery - Edit
Delighted to welcome a new veggie venue to Norfolk, the River Green Cafe is a delight! We shared a bowl of olives with breads and dips as a starter which was delicious and excellent value. I had a huge vegan burger that came with a home made salsa and a bowl of chunky coated chips and it was filling and delicious. Mrs Vegan Jonathan had a mushroom wellington. I spoke to Jan (the owner) after the meal, she was charming and interested in our views. She is developing new menu ideas, starting small to establish the staff and success and build from there. She also has some dishes that are available to take away for and from the freezer. Nice idea.

You won't regret it. - Edit
Just so wonderful this restaurant. I had the african stew, which my god, just blew my mind. It's the perfect place if you have a date, or if life is getting you down and you just want some good food and a relaxed atmosphere. The staff and management are really wonderful people as well, so helpful and the view from the patio is into the pretty park. In the end, I think I think it just made my trip to Norwich just so much better.
