Subpar at best - Edit
I'm not sure if they got a new chef.. But the pictures and reviews from 2022 tell no tale of what is being served now.
Read moreI had a vegan roll that was tasteless and had almost zero texture. My friend who ate sushi said hers made her sick. However the Brussel sprouts were delicious.
The vegan rolls need some work.

Amazing vegan sushi - Edit
Vegan food is offered and clearly highlighted on their menu. Everything I have ordered was amazing. Service was timely and helpful. This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to! I'd give it 5 stars if I could.

Vegan sushi, vegan ramen… - Edit
I’ve visited this restaurant a couple of times now and have really wanted to give it a top rating. Don’t get me wrong, the food isn’t bad. It’s just not out of this world. I have to give them props for at least providing a good vegan selection to choose from. I had the sample prix fixe course this time around with the miso soup, kabocha pumpkin, portobello mushroom and the crunchy dynamite roll. One thing that I’ve noticed with some of their dishes is that they’re a bit heavy handed on the salt, especially the kabocha pumpkin in this case. I remember their ramen being the same way. All in all, the service is quite good and attentive and the ambience is quite nice and quaint. It is an expensive restaurant which could be attributed to its proximity to the beach, so be prepared.

Stunning Meal - Edit
I visited last year and thought I had left a review. It was great. But this time it was exceptional. I ordered the prix fixe 4 delicious and beautiful dishes for $39. Plenty of vegan options ("I'm Vegan" said my server, who was great). Great vibe, service, delicious Japanese style food.

Rice is nice 🍚 - Edit
Some of the sushi options are hit or miss. I’m still happy they offer an entire vegan section for ramen and sushi. However, I wouldn’t recommend the portobello mushroom appetizer (a bit burnt) or the Breach Trumpet roll.

Good but didn't blew me away - Edit
After all the good reviews I came here with my omni friends. It was okay but I was expecting more. The brussel sprouts were really good, but the mushroom fries were kind of tasteless. The Sushi I ordered was falling apart and too squashy for my taste. Taste was good though.

It’s good but not phenomenal - Edit
It was good but not incredibly mind-blowing. The mushrooms in the ramen were tasty and kind of sweet, but the miso broth didn’t taste too different from what I make at home, and didn’t feel that impressed.

Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because I can’t on this app. - Edit
If Happy Cow allowed 5 stars plus for non vegan places I’d give Rice 10 stars. Truly a unique restaurant, small, wonderful staff, loads of vegan options and the whole menu is gluten free also.

I love, love this place. It’s small, personable, and absolutely delicious. Their vegan rolls leave you feeling nourished but absolutely satisfied when it comes to flavor. Their mushroom fries are a must as well as their soups. Lovely little place!

All Items Gluten Free. Yummy vegan options - Edit
The staff was so friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious! I ordered 2 types of their vegan sushi rolls, which were delicious! We'll definitely become regulars here! I know they can't get 5 stars since they're not 100% vegan, but they are 5 stars in my book!

My daughter loves the yellow submarine roll. We get the prix fixe lunch menu and it is big enough for both of us. A bit expensive but good place to come with meat eaters.

This place is small and popular, so call ahead and make a reservation for a weekend. I love the peach iced tea, yellow submarine roll, portobello tempura, cucumber salad, sweet potato crunchy rice, and the garlic pumpkin! Service is nice, well decorated, large vegan menu, what else could you ask for?

The Best of the Best - Edit
"Rice" deserves the greatest kudos, and lots more of them! It is a truly excellent Japanese macrobiotic restaurant that offers heavenly tasting unique, creative, quality small dishes. Most especially, if you are NOT an avid, experienced stay-at-home macrobiotic cook--like I am NOT, "Rice" offers a unique change from the same old/same old macrobiotic choices that I know how to cook and that I find in most vegan restaurants. The garlic "toro with crispy kale" is to die for. The crispy kale literally melts in your mouth, and pared with the warm blue fin sashimi...well it's out of this world. So were all the other dishes we had. The servers were especially adept at helping us order by recommending the most popular dishes and advising how many to order. A much-needed quality macro restaurant in the (largely) health-food desert that comprises the South Bay.

I Love Rice! - Edit
I love rice! Literally, I love rice but I love RICE restaurant, too.
Read moreA friend told us about this place and said that it's like Shojin but not an all-vegan restaurant with a vegan menu. We got to try it. I love vegan sushi.
YUM! We started with tempura and potato chips (crispy potato, homemade) as appetizers. Then, we ordered Spicy Dynamite and The Yellowbrick Road vegan sushi. I read Yelp reviews beforehand and seems that people like these. Oh my, everything we ate were so good, especially, the Spicy Dynamite.
We also had Kirin Free (non alcoholic beer) since we don't drink. We were surprised that Kirin made an alcohol free, 0.00% alcohol. It's a hard find. It was so good with the appetizer and vegan sushi.
For dessert we opted the 3 kinds of ice cream (vegan). The winner was the green tea ice cream.
Pro: Really yummy food and great service. The waitress was so very helpful and funny to converse with.
Con: Parking is hard since it is a beach city but if you can find a spot, it's all worth it.
We will be back for sure. I got to try the ramen next time since I love noodle also.
Pros: Yummy food, Vegan sushi, Vegan appetizers and salads
Cons: Too far from me, Parking is hard to find
