Gourmet on Ærø - Edit
As a vegan, there are few things more annoying than going to a restaurant and be served the classic dish “vegetables with vegetables”. I’ve been to enough work dinners with lazy chefs serving me this, bringing pitiful looks from my colleagues along with it.
Read moreBut did you know that when done properly, vegetables alongside other vegetables can be good? Like really good?
Mumm does exactly this; their main vegan dish was fried cauliflower with pea puré, red onion, potatoes and carrots. And it tasted great! They made various flavours come to life through the way they prepared the various vegetables, and managed to season it balanced with salt and herbs.
For dessert we had a lovely passionfruit cheese cake.
I guess this is the difference between a pretend gourmet and an actual gourmet restaurant. It’s on the pricey side though!

Ok but pricey - Edit
Me and my husband celebrated our wedding day by having dinner here. There was one vegan starter available (beetroot tartare) and a vegetarian one that could be made vegan (consisting of 3 aspargus with a green sauce instead of a hollandaise sauce). The aspargus were not very tender. For main there was just one vegan option, grilled pointed cabbage with green sauce and seasonal vegetables. Served with potatoes. Felt a bit like a stereotypical vegan meal (although it was tasty and is on the main menu). We do think it was quite expensive for what you get.

Wedding dinner - Edit
I had my wedding dinner at Mumm. I was the only vegan. Yes there steht many options but the menu overall is small.

Very kind people not vegan enough - Edit
We came directly from our wedding and as we mentioned that they were amazing and reserved a very nice table outside and even decorated it with hearts and stuff. The lunch menu is only a piece of bread with non vegan things so we asked them to give us anything vegan on top as they did but it wasn’t satisfying in any way unfortunately…. In the end we had a slice of bread with s few veggies, boiled potato and some white sauce. Dinner looks more appealing but they couldn’t do anything from that Menü.

Good dinner on an island where there are few vegan options - Edit
I visited in July 2021 and ate outside, it was a very nice ambiance and the server was great. The restaurant has vegetarian options, and when I asked about both of the vegetarian entrees I learned that the pasta could be made vegan but the ratatouille with couscous and lentil rolls was naturally vegan, so I ordered that. It was very good.
Read moreMy husband had the (vegetarian, but not vegan) papardelle with mushroom ragout, rosemary, and roasted hazelnuts. He really liked his meal. Both the pasta and the ratatouille were 175 DKK each.
We had a nice dinner and experience on an island with few veg options, so I would recommend at least stopping by and asking about the veg options on the menu if you are in the area!
Pros: Veg options in a nice restaurant
Cons: Could always use more veg options
