Incredible vegan pizza - Edit
We tried the Not Wings, BBQ Chicken pizza, and a special Meatball pizza. All were outstanding quality plant-based proteins and well-made wood fired pizza with a lot of spice and flavour. What I want to mention most is the efficient and thoughtful service! No sooner had we ordered than a drink appeared immediately, our waiter remembered from our booking that we were celebrating a birthday and was so kind and friendly to us, and a waitress offered us a takeaway box to take home leftovers very quickly after we’d finished eating - great attention to detail on all fronts made us feel really special and like it was money well-spent. Thank you

Innovative menu - Edit
I like that Red Sparrow is innovative with their pizzas, there's always something new to try. It's sad when something I really love is only on the menu for a limited time (eg. The HSP pizza was amazingg), but I like being able to try new flavours.
Read moreThe Banh Mi pizza is a great idea, I think it could have been improved with the addition of fried shallots, and more coriander and cucumber. It was quite sweet due to the hoisin sauce, and char sui pork.
I thought the pizzas were a little too soft/doughy and not crisp enough, this time.

I recommend the pepperoni pizza.
I didn't think the service was very kind or accommodating. It seems like a minimal service. We went there when it was still light outside, but the inside of the restaurant was quite dark unless you were near a window.
But the pizza is good so I'll go again

These pizzas are the best - Edit
100% vegan woodfired pizza, I'm in love. We had the Patatas Bravas and Cheeseburger pizza (gluten free) both were fantastic.
Read moreI'm a fan of potato on a pizza, but often comes with a garlic creamy base (which is not my favourite), but here the Patatas Bravas is on a tomato base with chorizo, and is a winner. And the Cheeseburger pizza tastes like, yes, a cheeseburger.
We got the pizzas delivered from Red Sparrow in Collingwood to Southbank. Obviously, the pizzas weren't piping hot (they were still quite warm) but they held up very well, the crust was firm and chewy and most importantly they tasted great. Next we will have to visit and try the not wings.
Pros: Great tasting wood fired pizza, 100% vegan, Gluten free options
Cons: None

So good. - Edit
The best. Rivals Purezza in the UK. I dream about when I get to eat here again. I love the innovative different toppings and specials like Banh Mi and the Larb pizzas. They now have a grab and go fridge for snacks and desserts which is cool too.

We had the cheeseburger pizza. It was definitely a little unusual but tasted amazing. Also had the Greek salad which was great and good garlic bread. Keen to come back and try more.

Yummy pizza - Edit
I like the chewy texture of the pizza dough. Ordered the GOAT pizza as reviews said that was the best but I find the taste of cheese too much n there’s a bit of bitter aftertaste.

I feel like the amazing pizza made up for it. And the rosemary chips.
toilet was an okay experience. I had to walk outside the back in the cold darkness and fear for my life, but again, the pizza made up for it! 💯💯

Great food! - Edit
I went here as a solo diner on a Saturday night without a booking and they were able to accommodate me at the window bar. I didn't end up having pizza as I fancied something else - had the spicy chicken wings, rosemary fries, and Italian salad. Three sides were too much for one person but it was all delicious! There was SO much rosemary on the fries it was a little excessive but did taste good. Cost was appropriate for a nice restaurant in Fitzroy. I'm keen to come back for pizza!

We took non vegans here and they were impressed! Lots of different pizza options, some more decadent and indulgent than others. Everything was delicious.

Support the 100% vegan pizza place - Edit
2024-05-24 I saw half their bookings had been cancelled. I had the late special pizza. It was so tasty. I loved the nuts and mint and the “lamb” they used. It was prepared really well. Then we tried the “mitey” cheesecake” which I wasn’t sure about, caramelised Vegemite, but wow! One of the best desserts ever!
Read more2023-04-07 we’ve been here a lot over the years. We came here on a public holiday. We ordered the arancini to share. I really liked the flavour of them and they were so crispy. I had the GOAT pizza. I loved the mushrooms in thyme and the pine nuts and caramelised onions. This was tasty. My partner had the miso eggplant pizza which is a special. I think this should be added to their menu permanently. Staff were nice.

We went to Red Sparrow which was fully booked on Feb 14 so we got take away. You can ring ahead and book a table. I got a Bianca pizza and my partner had the Eggplant one. It was freshly made and I loved the crust, it was so soft. I think 1 pizza for 1 person is the best ratio. They were nice to deal with. I will be going back to try other flavours, maybe to eat in the restaurant. .

One of my favourite Melbourne restaurants - Edit
I’ve been several times now and have a great experience each time. The food is incredible and the staff are always great. I always keep an eye out on the specials which are usually winners (but so is everything else on the menu). One of my favourite places in Melbourne that I always want to return to.

Unbeatable wood fired pizza - Edit
I don’t have a lot to add to the other reviews except to say, if you haven’t been to Red Sparrow Pizza, you don’t know what you’re missing. I have been to many, many pizza places over the years, including exclusively vegetarian and vegan places (many now defunct), and this is by far the best. I took friend who eat meat and they agreed if I hadn’t told them the pizza was vegan they wouldn’t have noticed, it’s that good. Highly recommend the cheeseburger pizza, but they’re all great.

Great pizza with great atmosphere - Edit
British traveller visiting Melbourne. Made the effort to journey slightly out of the city centre to visit this place after a few recommendations. I had the Puttanesca pizza with added pepperoni a side of wood fired broccolini (or tenderstem broccoli to fellow Brits) with a dessert of salted caramel cheesecake.
Read moreThe broccoli and pizza were really good, the pepperoni I added probably wasn’t necessary in the end but I still enjoyed eating it. The cheesecake was really good managing to keep a lot of the traditional dairy properties so definitely an impressive vegan alternative.
Drinking only the table water the above cost me $58 or £30 which I think is great value.
For tourist like myself I did enjoy sitting outside with the local trams driving right up past you.

BBQ Chicken wins. Every time. Don't get anything else. Although the jalapenos are spicy. The specials can be good from time to time. Rarely drawn to their veggie heavy pizzas. Always a winner with non vegan friends.

Inconsistent - Edit
Sometimes I get a pizza here and it is incredible, other times it is a let down.
Read more4 stars for being all vegan, but it is hard to know what quality I'm going to get when I order here.
It feels heretical to criticise a vegan Melbourne establishment, but I am incredibly brave, so I am willing to do so for the good of humankind. I believe there are better vegan pizzas out there
Tiggy
I agree the quality is inconsistent. Over the years my experience of RS has varied quite a lot and my reviews/ratings have ranged from average-minus to excellent. However, I would rather risk disappointment here than give my vegan dollars to a place that supports animal abuse, no matter how consistently delicious their (market-driven) vegan option might be.
