My first review on Happy Cow - Edit
There is too much to say. From finding this restaurant with its correct current location on 12 Poniente, Dec. 2024, (currently not on Google Maps properly) to munching on the chocolate chip polvorones on our road trip southwards later in the day, our experience with Recaudo was a delight.
Read moreWe arrived mid morning and the entrance had a few trays of produce to the side: I'm a professional driver who drove ten years for an organic CSA in the US, and it was nice to see what looked like a farm truck delivering.
Just beyond that the potted plants greeted us, with some seating for busy wait times in the entranceway, and then the small indoor and larger outdoor seating in the back. The place was buzzing!
There were still a few tables open both inside and out, though, and we sat and ordered and received our meals relatively quickly.
The menu was fascinating, and there were so many dishes i wanted to try, combinations of ingredients i hadn't had before. I'm not vegetarian but i love creative vegan food, and a few of the offerings were advertised as completely vegan.
The three of us ordered and shared:
Fruit bowl (vegan, raw) had very nice examples of each fruit, including figs which were sweet but not as sweet as my friends were used to. I think it was the variety, not the ripeness, as they were perfectly soft and had a bright, gentle sweetness suggesting they were not picked too early.
Eggs in a red sauce (ovo lacto as i accepted the delicious, pungent goat cheese.) The sauce was mildly spicy with roasted or grilled tomatoes in it. The tomato flavour was stronger than i am used to in red sauces in Oaxaca, where the various chilies dominate and the hothouse tomatoes are weak in flavour. I love chilies, but i miss the taste of tomatoes, so this was brilliant.
French toast drowned in black olive sauce (ovo lacto) included again that great goat cheese and a few roasted or grilled tomatoes, thick slices of a nice whole grain bread, not sure if the bread was vegan, but at this point with eggs and cheese on it, it's a moot point. The sauce was wonderful: Unctuous, smoky, and being on french toast, there was no rush to eat it quickly as there would have been if it were spread on bread without the eggy protection. So we moved back and forth between the two cooked dishes, cleansing the palate (in my case, at least) with ginger tea.
The prices were reasonable, accessible to middle class patrons, i would say. The staff was warm; we will be back for sure if we can.
Pros: Fascinating, creative menu options., Big smiles from the staff., Clearly uses local growers.

Decent veggie / vegan options but the food was very simple and bland. We had the brochetes (veg skewers) and a sandwich with hummus and some lentil balls on top. Both not that tasty.

Best restaurant in Cholula and Puebla! - Edit
The food was really tasty! Although they are mostly vegetarian they have a lot of vegan options. I ordered green juice and I got it 0,5 l! The same is with orange juice and the price is very affordable (it was just 40 pesos). The atmosphere is very artistic with paintings in the walls. The staff is very nice and are trying to help you.

Excellent vegan options - Edit
I went with three friends: a vegan and two non-vegetarians. The vegan friend and I shared the tostadas and stuffed peppers, and the whole table shared the avocado banana mousse. I also got the mango kombucha. I highly recommend everything I ate and regret I only remembered to get pictures of the tostadas. Service was excellent, decor and atmosphere inviting, and the prices were reasonable. I will note if you are expecting stuffed peppers swimming in a tomato sauce, this is not that. These were the closest to how I make stuffed peppers at home as I don’t use tomato sauce.

I'm the vegan that shared the dishes listed above. They were delicious and beautifully presented. We also tasted a bit of our friend's lemonade and i had a hot chocolate with oat milk. I loved the lemonade. The hot chocolate was good, but a bit thin for my personal preference.
