Best vegan meal in Sri Lanka so far - Edit
Plenty of vegan options: jack fruit, tapioca curry, dhal (obviously) to name but a few.
Read moreMore aimed at locals; I was the only one using cutlery. Very popular for good reason.
Will be back in the coming days.
Pros: Authentic, Welcoming, Economical

Best local food in sri lanka - Edit
This is the best and the cheapest local food I had thusfar in Sri Lanka. Its a simple buffet style restaurant with a lot of vegan curries. Just explain to them what you don't eat and they will guide you.

Good, straightforward gedara style restaurant - Edit
Standard Sri Lankan gedara style buffet place. You pay a single price for all you can eat rice and curry. I visited several times, and they generally had 1-3 non-veg curries while the other 8 or so were all vegan. Most were very tasty. I especially liked the one they referred to as "spicy salad"; I'd like to know the proper name for it. It was like a hot Sri Lankan salsa. Great stuff! Soft drinks are available for purchase, and water is free.
Read moreContrary to the previous reviewer, I had no issue with pricing and confirmed with local diners that I received the same price they did. As of Jan 2023, that was 500 rupees for the food and 100 for a beverage. Maybe they weren't charged for the drink the first time?

Excellent food, dodgy pricing & ethics - Edit
Excellent food.
Read moreBut beware of dodgy ethics and tourist pricing - I was charged 500 by the owner for a vegetarian buffet and a soft drink. The next day, I went again and the owner was not around. The girl at the counter had to call the owner to ask the price (she didn't have to ask the price for a local customer that was in front of me)...I was asked to pay 600 for exactly the same thing.
I had to point out the price discrepancy to bring it back to 500. And 500 is probably already a tourist price - I saw a sign in Sinhalese in the morning saying it was 350.
Not that I couldn't pay 600 - its about principle and ethics.
I'm not coming here anymore due to ethical concerns.

Great local experience - Edit
Really nice setting along the main road, serving great vegan curries. The taste was amazing, people very friendly and prices very affordable with 350RS for the vegetarian buffet. Only locals seem to go there. Highly recommended.

Yum! Great local food - Edit
I was greeted by the joyful owner/manager, who then walked me through the vegan options and filled my banana leaf with goodness. Portions are healthy and taste is flavorful. There were four different options. My favorites were the beets, dahl and spicy salad.

Amazing place, only locals come here - Edit
The buffet still costs an astonishing 350lkr (like 2 euros) and is very, very delicious. It consists of 6 different vegetable curry's (fish and meat is offered as well) and is served on a banana leaf. Beware: it's open until 16.00.
